So in going through all of the grocery delivery threads and I get to thinking that maybe I should just rent a car at the Dolphin and drive myself over to the grocery store so that I can get what I need.

That way I can have everything under my control. I know what exactly I am getting and when I am getting it.

I guess it's like using a travel agent to me ... when I have someone else do my planning I don't have any control.

I have never thought of myself as a control freak, however, I am seriously re-thinking that now :scratchin

It will cost between $30 - $50 to rent a car for the day from Alamo or National (the agencies at the Dolphin). If that is worth having control over the groceries, then go for it!

I don't cook that much and when we buy groceries, we always seem to have leftovers. When I do try to cook, I generally find I am missing certain ingredients that I forgot to buy. So I have rationalized that cooking on a WDW vacation is not for me, LOL. We eat out and just bring coffee from home (hate Disney coffee) and maybe get a few things for breakfast from the Resort store.

Best wishes -

Maybe DVC members would get together and help each other out. Those that have a car could offer to take one or two with them for a grocery run or they could rent a car or get a taxi together and share the costs. I've done it a couple of times on a pick up basis both at DVC and other timeshares. I think DIS wouldn't have a problem with a few thread's on the Planning or Mouselaneous boards similar to the get together or xmas tree swap thread's. It'd take a little structure and planning but not really that much I don't think.

I have taken a taxi at WDW and very convenient. I would do that for just a grocery trip.

Do you remember how much it cost you?

That's what we did last year. I got an amazing deal at Nat'l with my entertainment book. I don't remember the exact amount, though. I like to go to the SuperTarget (Irlo Bronson??). I know a lot of their products from shopping at my local one.

I'm still in the decision process for our upcoming trip also. The day I would want to do the grocery shopping will be a bit hectic. We'll be checking out of All-Stars and into BWV. We'll have guests arriving to stay with us from their previous night off-site. We'll want to make the most of the day because my guests will only be there for 3 days. AND - it will be my dd's birthday! What I need is someone to shop for me and then take the groceries to the room - which I know is not going to happen. I dread waiting around for too long and missing out on the parks with our guests.

I don't think you're being neurotic! We only tried the grocery people because we had a large family group and we really want to simplify our lives, well, it didn't. However, that didn't ruin our vacation, and actually, I'm thinking of giving another company a try, probably not until June. (And not again with the big family group, big order, until I have some positive experiences under my belt.)

However, for our next 5 night DVC stay we are renting a car, 1 night for church and grocery. We have found that Enterprise has given us a weekend rate, under $30 total for the Saturday to Sunday rental.

I know that I've met people through the dis that we've met for things like sharing a fireworks cruise, and also there's the Christmas tree exchange. Maybe someone will try a disboard grocery link. I would help out.

You may want to check with the limo services. I think it was Happy Limo service that we used, but I am not sure... Anyway they offer from the airport that they will make one stop at the grocery store before taking you to your resort. I think they give you something like 30 min in the store, which was plenty of time for us.

I think this probably the best way to go for your situation. If you just need to get groceries that is. Even with a car rental that will pick you up, they still take you back to the rental center to do the paperwork, and then you have to do the reverse upon return. Also, as with driving on any unfamiliar roads area it can be confusing and stressful, especially in an unfamiliar car. Take the taxi and a couple of rolling carry-ons with you to transport your merchandise with ease. Good luck :thumbsup2

I guess it depends on how you like to spend your vacation time.

How long will it take to get to the Dolphin, rent a car, drive to a grocery store, shop in an unfamiliar store, drive back to your resort, take your groceries to your room, drive back to the Dolphin, return the car, and return to your resort? Three hours? Four hours?

I think some people would enjoy renting a car and shopping. I'm not one of those people. I'd rather pay WeGoShop to shop and deliver groceries. Their fee is much lower than a rental car. And, more importantly, I would have more time to do other things at WDW — whether that means spending more time at a theme park, enjoying the pool, or just reading a book and drinking iced tea on the balcony.

if its just basic stuff, why not just order from the Disney website, or buy it in the stores??? We bring down stuff with us sometimes, just so we don't have to purchase, we have used goodings and they were awsome, or one time at OKW we asked the front area, it was late at night, how to get a taxi to take us out to Goodings, and they said no need, were slow, hop in the van!! so we shopped they drove us to the room and actually helped us up with the bags, as tipped well, and it was perfect! this is supposed to be a vacation, not a stressful thing!

I like that idea, DEAN!

I also think this is a great idea.
