Am I being greedy?

We (me, DH and DD 12) are taking our 4th DCL cruise on Aug 14th which is to celebrate our 30th Anniversary (a couple of months late!). As a surprise for DH, I've booked the Romance Package. Here's my dilemma - my DU agent has asked if we want to celebrate our anniversary during our Palo dinner or on another night. Now, the thought of marking this significant milestone in the wonderful, romantic atmosphere of Palo is very tempting (especially with the added element of surprise!) but I really want DD to be part of our celebration too and would like it to be on formal night as we've just bought her her first formal dress and it brought tears to my eyes at how spectactular she looked in it!

So - back to my original question! - would it be too greedy for me to ask for two celebrations? Or should I just go with the family celebration and go with a bottle of Fairy Tale Cuvee at Palo?

Help!!!!!!

Personally I don't feel you're being greedy at all! Celebrate it with your daughter. Heck, you're on vacation. Enjoy and be pampered!

Oh and I hope you have a wonderful celebration:D

Celebrate it twice. After all, your anniversary is a celebration of both your marriage and the family you have created together. 30 years is an amazing feat - congratulations.

Celebrate twice....after all, it's vacation, right?

And...my DD (12 years old) just got her first "real" formal for our upcoming cruise....almost frightening, isn't it?

It reminds me of the Halloween when she was 4, and dressed up as Cinderella. She looked 16!

Ok -- its good to know that I'm not the only mom having these thoughts about daughters growing up. My daughter turns 14 on disembarkation day and we just purchased her formal for the cruise last night. She can wears junior sized clothes and these made her look sooooo grown up! When she tried some of the gowns on, I wondered if I was a bad mom for liking some of them.

Dillards has a great sale on formals in both the juniors and misses sections right now.

Tartanfan -- do what makes you happy! 30 only comes once in a marriage! Congratulations!

Congrats on 30 years!! what an incredible testament you and your husand are to others. In these days it seems so hard to find people who have made it that many years, so of course you should celebrate it 2 times (or more if possible)!! And don't even think twice about it!! May you and your family have a very blessed cruise and may you have many more anniversaries to come. Have a magical day!!

I agree with kcashner...why not celebrate twice?

Congratulations on 30 years!

Have a great cruise.

We just celebrated our 25th on the Magic in Nov. & that's exactly what we did with our DD (12).

We celebrated on formal night with DD in the dining room & in Palo's on our actual anniversary. It was a lot of fun!

I also think you should celebrate twice....DCL won't mind. If you have them bring you a cake in the dining room with your DD then when you are at Palo's tell them you are celebrating 30 years of marriage and I am sure they will do something special!!!

Hubby and I will be celebrating our 25th along with his brother and wife on the 2/7/04 Magic....this time we cannot bring the teens due to college and h.s. I am really bummed about them not being there as I know how much fun they always have and the special family memories we always create on the cruise. They basically grew up on board as our first cruise was the Maiden Voyage of the Magic back on July 30, 1998. They went from the kids/teen clubs right on up to the adult clubs now.

It is very hard not to have them come along this time:(

Enjoy the time with your family.

No, it wouldn't be greedy! As I was reading your post I was thinking "uh, why don't they just celebrate twice?" and then I realized that's what you were asking about! If you still think you are being greedy, think of it this way... any normal person cruising w/o the romance package is entitled to a celebration in the main diningrooms if something special is going on. You are paying the additional $$ for the romance package and you are entitled to a separate celebration in Palo! So you are just getting what you paid for! :) Congrats on your anniversary and have a wonderful time.

Thank you all so much for your positive comments and your good wishes. I know that whenever and however we celebrate, it'll be a treasured memory!

I'll tell you all about it when we get back! Roll on Aug 14th!

Celebrate twice! Even though I've only been married once, I have two wedding anniversaries -- long story.

Seriously, by including your daughter on "the real day" you're imparting to her the idea that marriage is special and something to be celebrated -- and that she's a part of it.

Then you and your husband can have a "just you two" evening too.

Definately celebrate twice -- shoot, celebrate every night of the cruise!

DS and I are celebrating our 20th on our March cruise. Our anniversary isn't until July, but March is when we could get away. What do I need to do to surprise DH with recognition one night at dinner? I never thought of that.
