Am I able to remove a person from room without having to rebook?

Hate that WDW changed their rules on modifying a reservation to making a new reservation. As of now, we will be taking an extra person on our July vacation. I am planning to make it a package reservation but am stalling for discounts to come out. My question is, if this person were to back out after I book with a discount, can I remove him from our room or will we have to rebook with a new reservation? He is an adult so we will be paying extra for 4 adults in 1 room.

Good question.

While waiting for others to answer, I wonder why you want to book a package? Have you considered room-only? That makes changes easier.

We used to book room only but for simplicity of magic bands (we aren't the only room and I'm the one that books for everyone) we book packages now.

What do magic bands have to do with packages?
The only reason to book a package is if you want to have the dining plan for everyone in the room

If I book a package rather than buying tix thru UT I don't have to take the time to input tix numbers for 15 people in each of their MDE accounts.

You can book room only, which gives you the magicbands.

You can then buy tickets from wherever you like. Including from Wdw. If you purchase through Wdw, through MDE, it will link up automatically as far as I know.

Gives you easier cancellation policies, too.

You pay for the tickets when you buy them, but the balance of the room isn’t due until checkin.

Ok great, that does help. I thought to buy tix thru WDW it went as a package. I'd rather save the $ and buy thru UT but it's a pain when I have to manage our entire family's trip.

However, if I bought a package and he backed out I wouldn't be stuck with a 7DMYW ticket

I'd say the odds are very good you could get them to change the reservation for removing 1 adult from a reservation. Probably even just do it when you arrive at the resort

And no, you can purchase room only, check out. You'll pay for 1 nights accommodations and then the balance at check in
Then purchase the tickets whenever you want.
The one thing to note, you can't wrap up the cost of the tickets in with the room and pay for them later. You'll have to pay in full for the tickets. You won't have to have the tickets till 60 days (in time for FP)

Thank you all for your help. I don't want to screw up a discount code if I get one soon. I have done room only many times when we didn't travel with extended family and love not paying the balance til check-in. This is the first time I'm bringing an extra person. He's my daughter's long time boyfriend but there isn't a ring so you never know what could happen in the next 9 months. Just trying to be prepared.

You would not have to make a new reservation if you are simply taking someone off or adding someone to a package or room reservation. If you do it within 30 days of check-in (with a package), there may be a $50 change fee, but you don't have to re-book.

Why not book now, and then add the boyfriend at a later date when you are sure he is going?

As long as you don't go over the occupancy limit on the room this is a great idea. No harm in that at all
