We usually avoid EMH parks but will be at AK Wednesday which is an AM emh day there. Our plan was to get there for RD ( 8AM), and stay through about 2-3 PM. We would like to do most of the lesser attractions such as the trails etc. since we are bringing a first timer. Now I am wondering if we should plan to arrive later and stay until close (7 PM). Do the crowds thin out that much in the late afternoon on an EMH day during spring break??? TIA

I've never stayed at AK until close, so I can't answer your specific question. Based on my experience at the other parks though, I would never recommend arriving later on a day with EMH in the morning. You know what you're getting when you arrive at RD -- a couple to several hours of good touring time. If you arrive "later" then you're going to hit the parks at peak crowd levels for the day. Don't do it! :)

Last year during spring break, we went to AK on an amEMH day, and stayed open to close. Overall, the EMH hour was worth it - not empty but crowds dispersed enough that nothing had a terribly long wait. By 4pm, things started thinning out considerably though, and the last hour or two we felt like we had the place to ourselves. I definitely think the last part of the day was less crowded than the first, but if you show up later (late morning/early afternoon) just realize you will be getting there during the most crowded part.

I thin I will just stick with my original plan and try to stay one step ahead of the crowds all day. Thank you.
