Hello Everyone.

I'm Alyss and I live in Anchorage, AK. I'm 24 years old and I've been overweight since my freshman year of high school. The last couple of years though I've just been getting heavier and heavier. My best friends all weight a bit more than they are supposed to as well, so I've not been very depressed about my weight until recently. I lost around 20 pounds in Jan-March of last year but since then I've put the weight back on...and possibly over that. :headache: It makes me sad...but I'm getting motivated to really loss what I should.

I think (note key word there...think) I weigh about 240. I'm about 5 feet so I'm probably supposed to be aroun 120.... So basically I have 120 pounds to lose. My little sister is a heath guru and she's pretty healthy (weight and diet wise). I'm hoping to get her to help me lose some weight.

I have a gym membership but I never use it. I just got a new job and I get 1hr long lunch break. The gym I have a membership at is about 10 minutes away...so one of my goals will be to go to the gym. If I don't go to the gym then my goal will be to go to my parents house for lunch and walk on their treadmill. :yay:

I know I need to drink more water! I'm really bad at that! I going to buy some straws so I can drink water through my traveler's coffee mug at work. I can drink lots more anything through a straw for some reason! :upsidedow

Okay.... my goals for tonight...
1. Not snack on bad food at my second job... (I work in a hotel...the bakery is right down the hall... Pies, cakes, anything bad you can imagine.)
2. Go to the gym and weigh myself for real
3. Take my measurements (so I can actually track how many inches I lose)
4. Drink Water

I'll be back tomorrow to let you know how I did on my goals! I'm really bad at following through with most things so I'm going to try really really hard! Feel free to comment, I'd love some encouragment, stories, hello's...anything really. Thanks for reading!

Hi Alyse.

:welcome: to the journals. It looks like you have some great goals set for yourself. It is awesome that your sister can help support you. That will be a huge help. I also have a large amount of weight to lose. (i'm about 1/2 way there.) One suggestion I have is to celebrate the little victories. The WISH clipart is a great way to do that. Breaking things down into 5 pound increments and not focusing on that huge number does help.

Welcome again.

Take care,
Beth

Hello MIdanceMom! Thanks for the welcome! I will so be celebrating the 5lb goals! I'm excited to hit my first mark.... maybe by the end of this month??? That would be really cool! :goodvibes

OKay last nights update.... Well I was good at work, no bad snacking, heathy-ish dinner, drank water, weighed myself and exercised for 20 minutes.
The snacking/dinner/water thing was suprising easy. I weighed myself and did a cheer because I'm 10lb less then I thought I was! So I really weigh 230. Still not a good weight, but better than the 240 I thought I was so I was pleased.

The exercise however was not so encouraging. Yesterday I joined a walk to disneyworld mission, quest, thing. I live in Alaska so I have some 4700-something miles to walk to disneyworld. I want to do a mile a day (except Sunday...I know realistically that it just won't happen on Sunday.) So I jumped up on the Treadmill at work and found a setting that I could walk relativly comfortably for 20 minutes and do a mile. So I started it...and after 15 minutes the machine was starting to smell like burning rubber...I think I broke it...or overheated it...or something. But either way it was seriously embarrsing. I thought oh my god, I killed it cause I'm too heavy. :scared1: I talked it over with one of my roomies, and my sister and they both said they think it was the machine, not my being fat that caused it to do that...but I still feel a little discouraged by it. Not that I'm ready to give up or anything like that but it was kinda a downer anyway...:sad2:

But either way I walked my first mile :woohoo:. And I will be walking another mile today at lunch! And if I'm feeling really motiviated I might walk another mile tonight at the second job! We shall see!

I did take my measurements last night. I'm scatterbrained though and I'm not sure where I put them. Hopefully I left them in the car, if that is the case then I'll post them here after lunch!

This morning I was a little bad with breakfast. I got a taco salad from Taco Bell, I didn't eat the shell, so it wasn't tooo bad... but it sure wasn't whole wheat goodness. LOL It did taste good though, and I'm really full so I guess that's something. I usually don't eat breakfast so it probably was a step in the right direction.

Okay... I'll update after lunch! Comments are welcome! Thanks for reading!

Okay...still scatterbrained and cannot find my measurements anywhere! Grrr! Oh well! Anyhoo I only walked 1/2 a mile at lunch..still took me near 20 minutes but that's alright I guess. I didn't eat a super healthy lunch, but not too bad either. I had a bagel with stawberry creamcheese, and two clemintines. The fruit was better than the bagel which is sad considering how many calories are probably in that bagel!

My goal for tonight is to walk another 1/2 mile! I won't be checking in here again until Monday, so I'll add Saturday's goal here too!

On Saturday my roomates and I are going to be working out a good meal/diet plan! I hope we really do it! We are horrible procastanators! My goal is if we eat out on the weekend I have to eat something at least semi healty. I still want to drink 8 glasses of water too! Saturday I'm gonna shoot for another mile, but I've got no plans to work out on Sunday.

Have a great weekend everyone! :hippie:

Hey! Welcome to the Wish boards. I've only been on for a little while, but let me tell you, this is a great group of people! They are so supportive and really help you keep to your goal. You have great goals set up already, and don't worry-- we're going to help you stick to them! Good luck with everything!

Alyss welcome to WISH and thank you for visiting my journal! That is great you are ten pounds less than you thought, that must make you feel good. And you are doing well with your exercise. You can walk to WDW, you will build up from that mile very quickly! And good job not snacking at your second job the other night. As for the treadmill, there is no way you caused that to break by your weight. I believe most treadmills can hold something like 500 pounds or more. It was just an old tired machine, not you. Kee up your good work, you can do it!:)

Thanks for the response! I've been on the Disboards for awhile now, but I'm very new to WISH! Thanks so much for your encouragement! I'm gonna work hard! *Fist raised in victory*

Thanks Amy and thanks for visiting my journal! I was so worried about that machine! It's kinda silly now but I was so upset! Thanks for the kind words!;)

Monday Monday! Not a big fan of Monday but it is a day closer to my roommates and mine offical diet plan! We spent a couple hours on Sunday planning our points and food list for the next two weeks. We are going to do weight watcher again, but this time plan out all of our meals in advance so we are less likely to cheat...really it's me who needs to be less likely to cheat...I'm really good a justifing that piece of cake when I have no points left! LOL

I'm gonna read up on who else is doing weight watchers and what seems to work for people the best. We will not be attending meetings (I hated them) and I will still be doing a weekly weigh-in. (Every thursday) My roomies were really nice a made a plan for me that is seperate then theirs because I work a second job at night (3days a week) and will not be able to eat the food at the house.

The weather dumped about 5-6 inches of snow on us yesterday so our food shopping was delayed (Bad Bad Roads). Roomies are going to pick up our groceries today so we can offically start tomorrow! Yay! I'm going to go home tonight and cut up all the veggies and fruit so it will be easy to take and go!

I wasn't too bad with my exercise this last weekend. Sunday I did nothing but clean the house a bit. Saturday I walked a mile which was good! I didn't ever finish my mile on Friday though...so I've only done 2.5 miles for my walking to disneyworld quest. That's okay though! I'll walk another mile or 1/2 at lunch today! Haven't decided what I want to eat for lunch yet. I'll post again after lunch.

Has anyone ever heard of the Bean? It's like an inflatable bean shapped cushion that you exercise on. My roomies bought one like two weeks ago...I've read the pamplet that came with it but haven't blown it up yet...or looked at the DVD that came with. It looks like you do cruches on it and it is supposed to cause no back pain. There are other exercises you can do with the bean as well, but I've not looked into it much yet. Tuesday night is my cleaning night at the house...if I'm spiffy I can clean a bit tonight too then I'll have some extra time on Tuesday to blow up the bean and check out one of the workouts on the DVD. We shall see...I'll post a question in the main section of WISH to see if anyone out there knows of THE BEAN.

Have a good day everyone! Thanks for listening!

Hi Alyss...

I wanted to stop by and say HI! I really think that it's wonderful that you have set some really healthy goals for yourself! Just make sure to take the time to acknowledge all the victories along the way AND not be too hard on yourself when things don't go as planned. Getting started is the toughest part and you've already committed yourself! So hang in there and keep up the good work! :goodvibes This is a very supportive forum and everyone is very motivating and inspiring!

As for the Bean...I don't own one but KimWim here on the boards has one and uses it. Matter of fact, lol, we lovingly call her McBeaner due to her love of THE BEAN! I think she was very happy with the results. Sorry I can't offer more info...but you can check out her journal to see her thoughts on it :).

Have a great day!!! :sunny:

Ah ha ha- hello mybuggy!

Thanks for directing me here- This is a neat place to go to for accountability and encouragement.
Well....your buddies are right- just keep in mind short term goals *five pounds*, celebrate that and keep going!:thumbsup2
I was going to write more, but i can't remember what it was gonna be *it took me awhile to sign up on this thing*.....
..........................................
.................................
.....

Anywho! I'm heading out- but just keep in mind to do the best today- and dont worry about the temptations that you'll face later on- just say "no" to the one you face at the moment- and elimate or ask your buddies to hide anything that you may want that you know is not good for you! *lecture over* And i guess this is as good a time as any to post my goals too- Hmm...i'd like to weigh 135- and i'm ~157 now. Looks like its time to start working out again! :yay: I'll start on a daily basis too, and work out with ya Bug. :-) See ya soon!
and remember, i'm cheering for you. :-) :cheer2:

Welcome Alyss! Thanks for stopping by my journal! Great job on getting started and getting a plan in place. You'll find loads of encouragement here! This is a great group of folks--invaluable!

Just like Amy said, make sure to acknowledge your small goals!!! Add your clippies when you reach them! That's always exciting!!!

Good luck on your mile today and learning the bean!!! :goodvibes

AmyBeth-Thanks for the tip about KimWim! I spent hours yesterday reading her journal! LOL Haven't tired out the Bean yet, but I'm excited!

YAY! Today we officially start our diet! We are doing weight watcher and my wonderful roomie typed up my diet plan last night! So Far so good today (it's a little past breakfast and I'm eating my waffles right now...here's my plan for the day....I get 26 points.

Dinner Snack-

Okay...thats my meals for today. I acutally got up eairly enough to make and eat the egg...I'm a complete slug in the morning. I'm hoping to have enough time tonight to vacumn the entire house and try the bean! *crossing my fingers* I'm probably gonna switch my linner and brunch snack, the banana's at my house are super green, gonna go pick up a more ripe one at lunch! Other than that I think I'm set for the day. I hope this weight watchers diet goes better than the last time I tried. Last time I cheated.... a lot. :dance3: I'll probably also have a small pointless salad with dinner....more veggies!

Unless I have time to bean tonight I probably won't get much of a work out in...well execpt for the clean so I'm really hoping to rush through chores tonight. Oh I found my measurements, but I'm kinda embarrassed to post them.... but I probably should anyway... okay here goes...

Alyss,
Welcome to the boards! It sounds like you are moving in the right direction towards your goals. I have one suggestion about eating which I tell all my friends when we have this conversation-if you eat like a caveman, nothing processed, everything provided by nature, you will lose weight. We are not designed to be able to breakdown all the "crap" we put into ourselves and that is why we have diabetes, heart disease etc... Of course a treat once in a while won't kill you or get your wt loss off track but it is a good rule of thomb to follow when thinking of meals. Oh and never skip breakfast, it just makes it worse.

So how is the weather there, the majority of us are freezing!!!

Keep me posted and keep up the great work,
Linda

Welcome to the WISH Boards, Alyss! We are so glad that you have decided to join us here.:grouphug:

It looks like you are off to a good start!:thumbsup2 Just remember to reward yourself when you make each goal....It helps keep the motivation going.:goodvibes

Did you say you had 5-6 inches of snow? We live in Ohio and the snow comes every year, but I'm never prepared for it.

Hope you have a great day!

Great job on getting that eating plan out there! Hope all goes as planned today! If you manage to find to try the bean...let us know! I'm interested to find out how you like it!

Hope you have a great day!
Stacie

It sounds like you have laid out the plan pretty well, so it should be fairly 'easy' to follow. You just have to tell yourself that making excuses is not acceptable for cheating. Also, let yourself have a little of the "taboo" foods every once in awhile so that you don't feel totally deprived, which usually leads to major over indulgence. Last time, I found that if I went for better quality treats once or twice a week (such as a piece of Godiva chocolate), then I was less likely to eat a whole candy bar every day or chow down on half a bag of cheetos.

You can do this. All you need is to have faith in yourself!

Hi Alyss, congratulations on starting up with WW! Its a great program, I really believe in it, and even though I am on a long plateau, I still really believe in the program. You are very smart to plan ahead. When I do that, I lose. It just leaves less room for error and cheating. Good luck, you can do this!

Hi Alyss,

I'm a WWer too. You can find some recipes in the WISH header. www.dwlz.com can also help. Dottie has points values for restaurants. I hope you find WW as helpful as I do. Planning is the key for me.

Keep up the great work,
Beth
