Alternatives to Captain Cook's

We are staying at the Polynesian. From what I've read on these boards, Captain Cook's doesn't have much to offer. For those meals that we don't want a "sit-down" restaurant, can someone recommend anything at another monorail resort for me? Something on the line of a counter-service in one of the theme parks? Thanks!

I would recommend the counter service place at Grand Floridian (Gasparilla Grill). They have a good selection of deli sandwiches (I liked the cheesesteak sub), pizza (whole or individual), burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, etc. It was very convenient for us last time when we stayed at the Polynesian. I'm sure we'll go back on our next trip in August.

Gaspys does have a slightly different selection since it was rehabbed but Cpt Cook's chicken salad wrap was very good. I try to stick to the deli stuff and not the deep fried stuff behind the counter.

Thanks! I guess it's just that I've read so many negative things about Captain Cook's that I'm wary of relying on it.

Yeah, last time we went we ate at Captain Cook's twice and had had enough, I thought the food was ok, but the lack of choices forced us to look elsewhere. One other option is to order something "to go" from Kona Cafe and take it back to your room or wherever you want to eat it. We did this a couple of times ordering appetizers (mmmh....sticky wings) for a light meal.

We ordered a room service pizza one night for something different, and thought it was tasty and a great value.
