Alternative Music to Small World?

Hello all,

So excited to be <60 days from my fourth excursion into Disney World! As I'm prepping for the trip (making my way through 2015 Unofficial Guide), I ran across a tip for small world that I had never considered: listen to different music for the ride (which makes the ride entirely different I'd imagine!).

As one who has never been terribly in love with the repetitive nature of the Small World chorus, I'm curious if anyone has ever put together a playlist that would actually sync relatively well with the different areas of the ride? Is there a certain style of music you think would be more appealing for the ride?

I apologize if this is a thread already explored, but with the thousands upon thousands of threads in existence, I was a little daunted at trying to find it! Thanks in advance for your thoughts/considerations!

I'll add that to the list! I'm also considering riding twice - one as intended (no blasphemous aberrations!) and once with different music. It all depends on how much my partner can take of Small World!

Its a Small World is a Disney classic, both the attraction and the music. The attraction was created by Walt himself for the Pepsi pavilion of the New York Worlds Fair, 1964/65 and the music by the Sherman brothers.

It is loved by millions around the world. The bottom line it that it does not deserve to be changed, it is perfect as it is.

As a side note is the music being played at a lower level than say 10 years ago or is my hearing going bad?

I understand the timelessness of the attraction and the history behind it. Truly, I have a great respect for it. To be perfectly honest, I have a hard time listening to most popular music because of how mindlessly repetitive it is. Small World is even worse by the standards I would apply to all music I listen to. And I appreciate that millions love the attraction as-is, but my question is besides that point. I'm relatively new to this board, so I don't want to overstep boundaries of protocol or come across as rude, but I do think it is possible to have a dissenting (and informed) opinion and don't think it's out of line to ask for potential workarounds for a component of an attraction that (if not addressed) may cause my party to skip the ride altogether.

I agree with you. The music used to be louder, and was actually more repetitive. I never minded it though, as it added to the whimsical charm of the attraction. I hope it never changes.

The thought of riding without the classic music actually makes my heart hurt : /

That being said, it's an interesting idea to have another specific music track saved that compliments the environment in each room. It'd be an option for those people those that aren't so fond of the repetitive song. Of course, it'd mean watching a video through to determine the time spent in each section and then compiling a mix of songs to fit the themes. I'd be curious to know as well if anyone has actually done this?

You aren't overstepping any boundaries. I think it's a valid topic. I do not mind the repetition in the ride, so I don't think I would try the "ipod method." However, I think it is an interesting idea, indeed.

I'd be interested in an answer to this one! A day in MK is not complete for us without a trip through IASW, and we often have to ride it several times throughout our visit. But by the fourth time through taking pictures of "London" and Instagramming it with the caption "Look, kids! Big Ben! Parliament!" gets old. (Well. For everyone else. Not me.) Having something alternative but complementary would be fun for ride #6+.

I believe the 17:05 version of Ina-Gadda-Da-Vida would work nicely, especially if you get that long boat backup at the end.

I think its a fun idea to try, and I have no problem with wanting to drown out the mind numbing repetitiveness of the song with your own playlist through ear buds.

I've always thought Ina Gadda Da Vida was an under appreciated classic. Or (if you like repetition in a song) you could go with the long version of Hey Jude and finish with Its The End of the World As We Know It.

Same. I don't see it as repetitive, I see it as having many opportunities to get the message of the song. Which is lovely. Because it IS a small world. :)
