We had postponed our trek south due to the hurricane and now the flooding situation. We have a 35 ft MH and a toad. I would appreciate any input on routes that would be "user friendly" for our rig. We prefer to avoid steep grades.
We are very familiar with the routing apps such as WAZE, but they do not take into consideration vehicle height, etc.
DH is looking at 85 west to 75 south (we are heading to the Gulf Coast prior to FW).
We stay at Cabelas off 78 in PA, and are ok up to that point, but our other favorite campgrounds and refueling stops along our usual 95 route are now not an option.

Would apprectiate any input and/or suggestions from others who are familiar with that route, or on the road now.

1st,

I'll start with the fact I live outside of St Louis and no where near the east coast, but I have traveled a lot from Utah to Virginia and Michigan to Florida racing.

If you stay on federal routes (interstate or US labeled routes), you will be fine with any height issues. All federal routes need to be at least 13' 6". I don't know of any interstates that have exceptions.

As for a non-I-95 route and you are wanting to get to I-75, I would take I-78 across to Harrisburg, Pick up I-81 down to Knoxville and jump on I-75 there. I-81 runs through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. There are some hills, but nothing real bad. It is a pretty drive, if that matters. I haven't been on I-78 before, but it sounds like you are already familiar with that.

We leave on the 27th for the Fort from NJ. I'm looking at new routes now. Our MH is 38 ft and we just bought it on Saturday so we are nervous for first trip and now a new route. I have 2 in mind. PA Turnpike from NJ to Harrisburg then 81 south to 75 or I95 s to Richmond the I85 to Charlotte to 77. We booked Lumberton KOA for overnights there and back but its completely underwater so I looking at Greenville KOA or Charlotte KOA. Not sure how far we will make it leaving NJ at 5pm.

Teamubr, thank you for the suggestion.
Byejou, gongrats on the new rig. 95 may be open once your trip starts.
We have been RVing for over 30 years. We still avoid 81 south through most of VA, finding the mountain grades challenging on the MH for climbing and braking (we also tow a car).
We are on the road now. After staying at Cabelas on 78, we take 81 south, only to 66, then hop onto 17 to 95. There is some stop and go at the beginning and end, but overall a great road chosen by many truckers and RVers. If 95 opens back up, it's a clear shot down the east coast. We are taking 85 west to 75 south since the Gulf Coast is our destination this time.
I highly recommend the St. Mary's KOA near the FL border (free pancake breakfast). Will be sorry to miss it this time.
Good luck on your trip. We'll be at the Fort at the same time!
