Alternate Dining Selections for Kids

I know restaurants like O'Hana and LTT offer alternate meals for kids. DS, 4, is very picky and it's hard to tell if he will eat the family style food. He pretty much likes fruit, chicken nuggets, etc. I'm assuming if I order him a chicken nugget meal and we have the regular LTT or O'Hana meal, he cannot have a bite? It seems like this would be not allowed (sharing an all you can eat meal?). I'm mostly worried about him not understanding he can't have something at the table (he has autism). Sorry for the rambling question, just curious if anyone has had experience with the alternate kid's meal (esp at LTT). Maybe it would be best for me just to order the regular meal for everyone and bring him a side of snacks in case he doesn't find anything to eat? :confused3 Or maybe just buy him OOP an order of chicken nuggets if he ends up not liking the main meal?

As long as you are buying him *a* meal, I don't think there will be any problems with him sharing your family style meal. They just don't allow you to have non paying individuals share family style or all you can eat meals.

I agree, I think that it will be obvious that your not trying to take advantage of anything. Order him what you know he will enjoy, and don't stress about it. If he wants some of yours, too, good for him! You've paid for everyone at your table.

I don't know about LTT but at Ohanna we got to choose. We could order Dniece a kids meals and that was what she would have to eat - nothing off the table. We would then pay the kids meal price (about $5.99 I think) - OR - We could pay the full child's Ohanna price ($9.99???) and she could have anything off the table and any kids meal. Thats the option we chose and when she didn't eat the PBJs (didn't like the uncrustables) the waitress asked her if she'd rather how some chicken nuggets. She said yes, and they brought her those as well. I'm not sure if that is normal policy or just the way our waitress handled it, but I thought it was great. BTW - Dniece loved the food at LTT so we didn't have to ask about special meals there.

That will work perfectly for us at O'Hana. We're on the meal plan, so I don't mind getting him the full meal. It's MUCH better than risking a meltdown! (Yes, we are "those folks" with "that kid", please remember that not all disabilities are visible before pointing at us.) :earseek:
