Hi all! We got back Saturday from a great first week ever at the Poly!

First, we checked in after dark on a Saturday night and found ourselves in Fiji 1310 on the Luau Cove side of the building, and could VERY MUCH hear the luau from our room. It kept me awake that first night, even though I was exhausted. I lied awake cursing our room assignment, and thinking about how I didn't want to have to pack up and move to another room the next day. I had asked if they had anything else to give us when we checked in and I saw we had been assigned Fiji and was told they had nothing else that night but could move the next day.

In the light of day, the next day, I saw our view. And, wow, what a view! I have to say the luau side of Fiji is an awesome garden view room. We had a view of beach, the monorail, and the Grand Floridian wedding pavilion from our patio. I also began to really appreciate how close we were to the GCH as well.

The next noisy hitch in our room location: we came back for our daughter's nap time to find they were power washing the roof of Fiji that week. Yes we had a ground floor room, but the compressor was right by our outside wall (it's a corner room), filling the room with a constant low rumble. But, you know what? Our daughter napped anyway! In the end, I figured if it wasn't bothering her I needed to not let it bother me. Same thing with the luau. It never kept her awake.

We found that Sunday and Monday nights there's no luau, so our next two nights we had quiet to establish bedtime routine, and get used to the space. By the next luau, our daughter was sleeping right through the night. We found it helped to switch the fan on the thermostat from Auto to On. I didn't notice any motion detectors in the room as have been mentioned. We had the AC fan on all night making a great white noise buffer for the thumping of the luau noise. DH and I both just got used to it, and after days in the parks, it was easier to sleep at night. I already don't sleep well at hotels, and the mattresses at the Poly weren't comfortable to us at all. But, you get tired and eventually sleep isn't a problem.

On our morning off from the parks day, we ordered room service, and I'm glad we did! I got to enjoy Tonga Toast in the comfort of my pajama pants and the lie down immediately afterwards. I needed it, too! It's huge!

We took housekeeping just every other day. Didn't get any towel animals. We were satisfied with the service, though I did find I had to call and be sure to request they come in the morning on the days we wanted service. We were in the room every afternoon with the privacy sign on the door for nap time, so I preferred they come in the morning. If I took off the sign when we left in the morning without making a call, we'd get back around 1 and find the room as we left it that morning. So, I guess our floor was on an afternoon rotation unless requested otherwise. Housekeeping carts were in the halls all day, so if we needed towels or anything, the staff and supplies were easily accessible.

We used the daybed with a bedrail for DD (and she did great on it even though she sleeps in a crib at home), and I took video and pics of our view. I'll be sure to upload both somewhere and post them tonight.

We got Capt Cook's our first night (Noodles for me, pork sandwich for DH and we liked both), but after that the only thing we got from there were Dole Whips. DH hated the smell of the place (I think it was burned flatbread/pizzas we smelled), so we went to the GF and ate at their counter service on our resort day (Awesome!). Capt Cooks was smaller than I expected.

I have to say I was surprised to not immediately love the Poly, but we grew more and more in love with it everyday. The transportation options are SO nice, because were are big on the MK. I would totally stay here again.

Let me know if y'all have any questions!

This was taken from sitting on our patio last week, on the one sunny day!

This is a photo I posted on Facebook, so I hope this works...

Quick question about fireworks viewing...read on another board that there is a 3rd floor room at the lagoon end of Tokelau where one can take in the fireworks. I can't see this on the drawings. Is it there? Is it a preferable view to being on the beach?

We're having a family reunion at Poly 6/29-7/3. First time at Poly for all of us!

Great room view Mississippianna!

Loved your review too. Glad you had a good trip! :goodvibes

I think what happened to you was the same thing that my wife an I did to our kids! We planned our first trip for the kids 5 months in advance, we told the kids all about our previous stays. We told them how much fun they would have! We told how beautiful the poly was! We told them all about the rides! We had them sooo hyped up they couldn't wait to go!
Then when they arrived for their first time they were expecting the world to be more than a beautiful resort and endless fun! They expected even more than what they got! We ruined the surprise!

Anyone notice the difference in my signature? :lmao: We weren't planning a June trip, but we all know how that goes. . .it will be a shorter than normal visit this year, but better than no summer stay! :thumbsup2

Yay! :yay::cool2:  We'll miss you by a couple of weeks though!

Thanks so much for the review, the review are what keep me going:goodvibes

along with the pictures:thumbsup2

update: went to the tax man and we got waaaaaaaaaaaay less than we thought we would and I was devestated no POLY:headache:

but then I got thinking...and I think I can pull off 5 days here, plus 10 at POR, we will skip the meal plan for our POLY stay and POP for cheaper ADR's

now initially this was to be a surprise to just my kids, but...now it is going to be a surprise to my kids and DH :littleangel: :rotfl:

Here's a video taken one afternoon from our patio. The water pump compressor for the power washers wasn't on this day because it had been raining. You can tell there's not much sound at all, just wind rushing by, a quiet spot, where you can hear the lake against the beach. ::sigh::

This was taken with my iPhone, and the monorail seemed closer in person than it does on the video. We sat here one day and watched some poor folks stuck on the resort monorail for a good 30 minutes or more between Poly and GF.

Nice video! Kinda makes me feel like I am there!!! Sigh.......

Thanks for the review and pics Mississippianna! I am glad you got your do over and had a nice time :thumbsup2

I got a nice treat today when I came home from work...I turned on my computer and there was the welcome e-mail from the Poly IPO :cool1:

Even though our ADR date is not for a loooong time it was still nice to see an Aloha from them :woohoo:

Nice video, Mississippianna, thank you so much for sharing! These pics, reviews and now video are definately needed right now!

I booked an ADR for the Ohana breakfast :stitch: and I am so excited to suprise the kids with Lilo and Stitch! I am trying to make a schedule for that day though and was wondering if anyone has any idea what a realistic park arrival time would be?

Our ADR is for 7:30 and we will be going to Animal Kingdom after breakfast. Since we have never done the breakfast OR stayed at Poly I have no clue how to budget for time that day. Would it be likely to be able to arrive at AK by 10?

Thanks!

Mississippianna -- thank you for the great review, photo and video. I'm glad that you liked your stay at the Poly. That really is a nice garden view.:goodvibes

WOW, a blizzard here and then we had an earthquake :confused3

I have just about had enough of winter in Chicago? It will be a long 9+ months!

DD has a long weekend off from school, and DH and I were joking about jumping a plane for this weekend for a spontaneous trip. I think I will look into it and get some numbers and see if he is serious? I'll let you know ;)

Ohana breakfast is a buffet/family style service. You could possibly make it to animal kingdom by 10, but.... Only if you get a table right away, kiss LILO and stitch, eat as fast as you can, then run to the bus and get on right away.

But I would probably plan to arrive at AK by 11!
Or you could take your time enjoy your meal then head to MK or Epcot. The ride is quicker and not as hectic.

Expect to walk out of the breakfast 50-70 minutes after your res time (in 6 years, our group of 13 averages 70 minutes) . If you are driving, add 30 minutes to drive from Poly to walking through the turnstiles. So, yes - you should be there well before 10am. I would suggest arriving by 7:20 at 'Ohana, and as you see everyone is finishing, ask for your check...I am assuming you want to get to AK as soon as possible.

Other factors that could make it longer...
What time of year are you going? Are you using Disney transportation? How many in your party?

What's the best way to get to the BC or Boardwalk area from the Poly? Is it easier to take the monorail over to Epcot and walk over, or should you take the bus?

Thanks! :)

Heard about your earthquake! Wow! We are way down south of you in the great  state of Illinois (almost to KY) but we are pretty sick of winter too this year. We have had a lot of snow for our neck o the woods! No earthquakes though (yet:eek:)!
