Aloha! ***Welcome to the NEW Poly FAQ***

We just returned late last night from 9 days at the Poly. I will work on a trip report later, but what a wonderful time even with the up and down weather. First two days cold, beautiful weather in between for 5 days, and the last two days COLD and rainy. The weather report stated that Orlando got more rain in those two days then the whole month of November...lucky us. However, here is the summary....

1. ONLINE CHECK-IN is fantastic. I was the only one who went to this line and was done in about 3 minutes. (About a dozen were in the other line). We got everything thing we asked for: Samoa, 1st floor on the side of the volcano pool. We were room 1610. The view was blocked by some shubbary, but that did give us some nice privacy. Plus, from the Volcano pool we could go back to our personal bathroom instead of using the cold public restroom.

2. Booked a trip for our November/December 2010 with our in-room deal with the 40% discount!!!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

3. Crowds were not that bad, but I think people our getting pissy and selfish. We are fast walkers and I would like the slower walkers to be more aware of the space they are taking up. They tend to walk stretched across the whole pathway and then get mad at you when you say "excuse me to get by" and wonder why the hurry. A few people said some impolite comments that I did not appreciate. We are not in a hurry that is how we walk.

4. Free Dining! We ate some wonderful meals and picked up a cook book - willing to share recipes for anyone interested. My favorite meal was Jikos....had challenges getting there, but the atmosphere was beautiful and the food superb. All of the adults had the filet migon with the white chedder macaroni and cheese. I had the red wine sauce on the side because I had read that it had a barbacue flavor to it and I am not a fan, but WOW! Our challenges were though that we were exhausted and m my 3 year old to no one's knowledge had diarrea and I was running back and forth to the bathroom with her. Thus, without checking due to franticness I ordered a glass of wine that was recommended without looking at the price...opps....$28, but it was good! However, way to much food for us we were tired of feeling stuffed and bloated. We won't do it again. Ate at Jikos, CRT, Le Cellier (great soup), Teppan Edo, Chef Mickey's and missed Coral Reef (went to Planet Hollywood - so, so but did it so our son could go to Disney Quest).

Anyway - we are now all hooked on the Poly!

I have been lurking around this thread, learning more about the Poly and preparing for a surprise trip there next month. So excited!

At least I was excited until this morning, when my 6-year old and I were looking at our Disney maps and she pointed at the Poly and said that it was the dark, smelly place!!

I have no idea what she is remembering from our trip to the World last summer. We stayed at the GF and had dinners at Ohanas and Kona -- so something stuck in her mind that I just can't remember!

But it makes me worried about announcing a trip there when we get to the holidays -- any idea what on Earth she could have been talking about??

Thanks everyone!!

Well, we really like both resorts. The Poly (esp. the lobby area) is darker than the GF. Were you there are night? Then it really is dark... It's hard to tell what little kids remember, though, but you may want to show her photos and talk the place up instead of surprising her when you get there (if you think she'll be unhappy about it). It's very different from the GF, but lovely.:cloud9:

Hello Poly people. My first post and queston.

We are booked for 7 nts at the Poly mainly due to the reviews and reports I have read here. My question is... What is Club/Consierege level? Does this have anything to do with the dining plan? We are a family of 4, kids 12 and 10. What are the offerings to eat and drink? Anything we couldn't get at the grocery store? Are drinks included? :cool1:

Its over $600 for an upgrade. We are GV booked.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks

I would say she is talking about the GCH and the fragrance of the flowers and plants. It is strong. I know it took a few days the first time to get used to it. Now it is intoxicating to me. I look forward to it. Good luck!

Hello, fellow Poly lovers!!!

Sorry I haven't reported back on our stay at the Poly, but WDW withdrawal has gotten to me ;) I wanted to let everyone know how this visit went.

We had a garden room reserved for 5 nights (Nov. 19-24) and had requested Samoa. We did not do online check-in and just went through the regular check-in process which went very quickly. I had a very friendly CM who made sure we had a Birthday pin for DD, leis, and all the brochures/maps/etc. It was a quick and painless check-in.

I must tell you I was so happy to be back that I had a tear in my eye during check-in!! :rotfl2: She really made my day when I found out that we got a great room in Samoa on the third floor facing the volcano pool.

Our room was very clean, had no "smell" that some report, and a great location that was directly across from the elevator. I know that might bother some, but we didn't hear much noise from it and it was super quick to get in and out of the room.

The hallways and areas like the vending machine room and ice area were not as well kept. The large windows at the very end of the hall were plain dirty. You could see the many handprints/smears easily. But honestly, if the mousekeepers have a certain amount of time to spend I would rather have my clean room than a clean window in the hall.

Our CM experience were uniformly great! Only one little irritation with the CM in Boutiki, other than that, everyone was very warm and "Aloha" must have been heard 10 times a day! But I like that ;)

We used the pool twice and the girls had a good time. I had a frozen drink at the Barefoot Pool Bar that was good, the Pina Colava. I really liked it. We also had some sushi at the Kona Island and my DD13 and I enjoyed that a lot.

Here are some photos:

Room 3602, I told you it was right off the elevator!

We had a towel Mickey on entering our room :lovestruc We never get these (well rarely).

You can see the pool area lights out the sliding glass door.

We later got a stingray (took a while to figure it out :rotfl:)

I know this is a lousy photo, but those are swags hung from oars at the resort entrance.

If you go back to the first few pages of the thread, there is a fair amount of info on staying Club Level at the Poly. There is also an entire DIS thread here in the Resorts forum on Club Level at all the resorts.

No it has nothing to do with the dining plan.

Here is a link to the Club Level thread where you can read all about it.

Also the Dining Plan is not included with it, however you can stay Club Level and still purchase the Dining Plan. However I personally feel it's to much food with all the ADR's you need to make and if you plan to take advantage of the food offered in the lounge.

Been stalking this thread for a while and decided it was time to post!! :earsboy:

We are planning our second WDW trip 2/27-3/05 and can't wait! We are staying at Poly again... stayed there our first trip and just can't imagine staying anywhere else we LOVED it so much!! :lovestruc

I am looking for advice... should I call them back and request a specific building?? When I booked I told them we did not want the first floor or near a parking lot for safety reasons... I have 2 children with autism and my 4 year old has NOOOOOOO sense of danger what so ever. I was worried he'd get the patio door open somehow and book it... or get away from us and run into a parking lot. I am not entirely sure where that will put us though. Should I have asked for a specific building instead of vague requests?? Whats the best way to approach??

Lots of people have their favorite longhouses and I do too :) I like Tokelau. It is in between the pool/GCH and the TTC. It is right next to the quiet pool. All rooms have either a patio or a balcony. It sounds like you don't want a patio, but do you want a balcony? If yes, Tokelau is a good one to request and say 'no ground floor'. None of the views from this building are of the parking lot. If you don't want a patio or a balcony, you'll want a different longhouse.

Remember, the less requests you make, the better your chances so if you request not ground floor, no parking lot view, that is already 2 requests. Prioritize your requests and make sure those are noted!

I would leave your request as you have it.

If you request a specific longhouse and your longhouse is not available, the room assigner won't know what your reasons were for choosing that longhouse. If you have it noted in your ressie why you are making a specific request, then the RA will have an easier time fulfilling your request and there will be fewer "requests" for the RA to accommodate.

For example, you could have place in your ressie:

"Due to safety concerns for our autistic children, please place us as far from the parking lot as possible and not on a ground floor. Thank you."

If your 4-year-old is fearless, you might want to also request "2nd floor only" since they don't have a balcony, that would be one less thing for you to worry about;)

Leaving tomorrow for WDW, and staying at the Poly!!!

Thanks to everyone for your photos and tips.

Some 2nd floors DO have a balcony though.

Welcome back to you just returning! I love the pics.:thumbsup2 The holiday decorations look a bit different from last year.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!:santa:

We just returned home Friday from 5 nights at the Poly, club level. I will be writing a trip report soon. I came home to sadness because my 16 year old cat passed yesterday and I'm so heart broken.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet is so heartbreaking.:grouphug:

I hope you enjoyed your Polynesian vacation and will look forward to your review.

Thanks to everyone for your photos and tips.

Have a fantastic vacation.:cool1:

J.C.&Ali'sMom, great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Hi fellow Polynesian fans. We're at WDW right now although not at the Polynesian. However, as is our custom we started our trip with breakfast at Kona Cafe on the first full day. The Polynesian is absolutely lovely in its Christmas finery. The M M garlands at the entrance and in the lobby always make me smile. No gingerbread creations this year or at least not as of Saturday.
