Just had to share. I booked our next trip to the POLY for next June. My Mom passed away a week ago, and this trip will give my Dad something to look forward to.......seeing Mickey with his grandsons!:cool1:

I'm so sorry about your loss . I'm sure your boys will love having their grandpa with them at Disney, as well as grandpa loving every minute with his grandsons :goodvibes.

I am so sorry for ur lose and hope that many happy memories will be in store for u and ur family.

Do you think that I can request a room in Tahiti for the 1st week of December - I have a theme park view. Or will the DVC construction be starting?

Since nobody knows when DVC construction will be starting you should go ahead and request Tahiti if that is where you want to stay. There aren't many longhouses with TPV so if Tahiti is not available you would most likely be placed in Tokelau.

My Mom passed away in May after a 10 month battle with Lung Cancer. We were able to make 1 last family trip with her in April. It was very important for her to do this with her grandchildren,I still don't know how she mustered up the strength to do it but am sooo grateful that she did because we created so many memories that my kids and I will never forget!
My Mom made my sister and I promise to take the kids back to Disney in December to see all of the Holiday Decorations, so we are going to the Poly Dec 1- Dec 6. I'm sure it will be very emotional at times for us during the trip but I have to believe that my Mom will be there with us:angel:

Right now I am sorry I posted our experience. I was NOT looking for sympathy and again I was NOT expecting an upgrade and it did NOT ruin our vacation. because we didn't. However other things that did happen are effecting it. I'm done. Thought this board was different but I guess not.

karriealex, don't leave!!! Just knowing there is a CHANCE to upgrade makes us all secretly hope to have it happen for us. And YOU have other circumstances, so double disappointing to be placed at the very far end of the building. Please don't leave us. Send us PICTURES!!! We're all wishing you a wonderful time!!

This is exactly what I PM her b/c I know everyone that hasn't booked the best possible category HOPES for an upgrade, especially when you read about it happening so much!!

The person saying that she just wanted sympathy was completely out of line, this a place we come to talk about our experiences & a fellow Disney fan just expressed her feelings & was in need of cheering up.

If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all!!!

YEP!:thumbsup2 I second all of these. I would be lying if I said that I was not wish for some pixie dust in September to get a little upgrade to a LV or TPV room. We booked GVCL so I am SOOO happy for that. Please don't leave. I might not always agree with what people say on here or around the disboard, but I try to respect whatever one says and be mean. :goodvibes Some people are just not that way.

I think it's OK to hope for something special and magical to happen. :) But I think we all know the chances are slim. We've only been upgraded once out of about 50+ stays. That's pretty bad odds! :lmao: After our downgrade at the YC CL in May I was just thrilled we were actually given a room in the Hawaii building! :rotfl2:

Speaking from experience, when you have a trip that is plagued with problems it is really hard to pull yourself up and enjoy the rest of the week. Our broken toilet last summer at the BC CL just about ruined our entire vacation. Heck I had to shower down the hall! :crazy2: But I try really hard not to let it get to me, crazy things can happen to anyone... rather it be something broken in your room, or the room being dirty, or in a crappy location, etc, etc, you have to be able to complain to the right person so they can take care of the problem and set you back on course. :goodvibes We spend a fortune on these trips, and a million man hours planning them, there is always a high expectation for perfection and always a small letdown when you realize nothing in this life is perfect... even at WDW.

Thanks! Most people think it is strange for me to make reservations for WDW right after the funeral, but I knew that my friends on the DIS would understand. It was important for me to have something for my Dad to look forward to.

Sorry about your Mom. I'm sure that it was a long 10 months, watching her go through that. I am blessed that my Mom didn't suffer like that. She was healthy and active, and then just passed out with a massive stroke. She never woke up from the coma. It was just under 3 weeks before she died. I hope that you can enjoy your trip in Dec. That is such a wonderful time to be there!

Im also sorry for your loss, when my Dad passed unexpectedly in 1999 we were planning a family vacation, my kids hadnt been to WDW yet. So after his funeral was paid my mom divided up what was left between her and I and I took my family to WDW with that money.. It was the best way to remember my Dad as he loved WDW and I have a LOT of great memories with him there!

I agree with this, we put so much effort into planning these vacations that it can really be hard to hit the reset button. My first trip to the world was in 1997 and instead of taking a day to get there, it took 3 days and 7 airports. When we finally arrived late the night of what was supposed to be our 3rd day of vacation, we had lost our reservation, even though we were in constant communication with central reservations. We finally got a room at a different resort, but that room had major plumbing problems that required us to move the next morning. It was a very rough start to a trip that at the end began my love affair with WDW!

I think that this is in general one of the kinder boards on the DIS and I hope that you don't feel the need to leave. I know I would miss you. I hope that you are having a magical trip and that everything is now going smoothly. :cheer2:

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't think of a better way to celebrate your Mom's life than a trip to the world with your Dad!

I'm excited to be joining this thread, we just decided to change our reservation over to the Poly, we stayed here about 3 years ago and so excited to be going back! It was such a last minute decision to change resorts, we were stressing over it and just finally decided to go for it!

We will be at the Poly in about two weeks and I've got so much reading up to do!

We are here and I have to say things have been less than magical and to the point that I have been in tears a couple of times. We got here at 8:30 and had to find someone to find someone to take us back to Hawaii. At first the girl said Oh just go walk inside and find bell services to help you. Umm really? Finally someone comes to get us and takes us back. We check in and find that nope no pixie dust I got what I paid for and couldn't even pay to be upgraded. I am also told our room is not read. We go to get my wheelchair to go to MK for our noon ADR. We go out to the car to get m wheelchair and someone forgot one whole length of my charge cord and I now couldn't recharge m battery and the chair would last maybe a day. We ask bell services if they know of someone we could buy a length of the cord from. Hands us a paper and says call all of these. We go back to Hawaii because we are now running late and I figure cant make our ADR. Talk to Lawrence who reschedules the lunch to 2:30 and says he will try and get a runner to go buy a length of cord. I thank him and we go to MK. Stand in the blazing heat 1 hour to get our tickets and TIW card and she does give us a GAC card ans she sees I am wicked pale from being in the heat. We are set go.. Within two minute4s we lose both sons because they didn't do as they were told and stay together. Meanwhile the floodgates of heaven open up and we all get soaked. Where are our poncho's?? In the car in our luggage back at the resort. We round up everyone. Go to buy youngest a shirt as he is soaked to the bone. We finally make our ADR now I have to say it we enjoyed Crystal palace. The food was good as was the character interaction. I finally get a call 1.5 hours after the resort states is their check in time and we are told our room number. We finally make our way back to the resort I find out that not only did I not get pixie dust which I know is a gift but our room is completely on the other end of the longhouse in the very last room. I was not happy. So we go all the way down there and the keys DON'T WORK. So we go back up. They remake the keys and we go to our room. Have to call maintenance because our TV does not work. I cannot believe what went on yesterday. They have basically sealed my fate as to whether I have to use my wheelchair on the entire trip or if I could do some things without it. There is no way I am getting to either the lounge, quiet pool or main pool without my wheelchair because of room placement. Now I know pixie dust is not guaranteed but really the last room in the longhouse when you are celebrating something as special as we are. With all that happened this is not the trip I planned nor envisioned. Very disappointed.

I am sorry you are disappointed. I am sorry you felt backlash. I understand the disappointment after such long planning and saving money!

It looks like the day just snowballed for it not to be a great check in day. Just remember to only blame Disney/Poly for what is their fault. The key and TV not working appear to be the only thing that Disney did "wrong." As you said, you got the room you paid for, although you were hoping for better placement. Disney cannot be at fault for rain, your children wandering off, forgetting your cord, etc. It looks like they tried to go above and beyond by rescheduling CP and by offering to help you get your cord-both of which were your responsibility.

I really hope your vacation has gotten better! :thumbsup2

Thank You Mickeynut1! :)

You're welcome :goodvibes.

I'm sorry about your loss . I'm glad you were able to make one last trip with your mom. Disney in December is amazing and I'm sure that although it might be hard at times, you will all have a great time and your mom will be there with you :grouphug:.

Thanks. My Dad loves Mickey Mouse as much as I do!

I'm sure the trip will be extra special for everyone :flower3:.

Congrats on booking the Poly. These next 2 weeks will go by fast and you will be checking into the Poly before you know it :wizard:.

I don't think karriealex was blaming Disney. I think she was just telling us her bad day. A bunch of people read into it that she was bashing Disney somehow. I think the lesson here is that if you say anything negative about anything whatsoever on these boards... your wife, your job, the fact that you use a wheelchair and it sucks to have to deal with that on top of everything else... just always make sure to specify that whatever you're dealing with is NOT Disney's fault and you DO still love Disney and Disney is still wonderful. If Disney DOES do something wrong, maybe just state that in a separate post and phrase it as a question or a statement about how Disney resolved the situation. "The TV is my room wouldn't turn on - is that normal? :confused3 " or "Our room key didn't work, but at least it wasn't raining the 20 minute walk to the lobby to get a new one and Disney made sure to make us a brand new key so that all worked out perfectly in the end! :cheer2:" And above all, if they DO do something great like help you find a way to buy a new cord or reschedule a reservation, make sure and let everyone know you are OVER THE MOON about Disney and thankful for all that extra pixie dust, no matter how bad the rest of your day is.

:thumbsup2
