ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Back from our wonderful Poly vacation! I have so much catching up to do! I will post a review in a few days but right now my computer is down.:sad2:
Disneymumma it was great to meet you and I hope that you all had as much fun as we didi! Bluejasmine I hope that you are having a blast!

Hello,

For anyone at the Poly now or recently back, are you seeing any bounce back offers? I always hear about them, but I never seem to get an offer in my room. I'll be there in about a week or so, and hope that they might be available. Thanks!

Can't wait to read your review! I hope you had a great time!

I am thinking about using this for our kids so we can go to Jelly Rolls one evening. I'm worried that my DS8 will think it is too babyish for him. I saw that they had video games - do you happen to know if there were any that were geared toward kids around 8?

My three kids went to the Neverland Club three weeks ago and LOVED it! They begged to go back. I asked my DD9 and DD7 if they can remember any specific video games for kids their age. Unfortunately, my girls aren't into video games at all, so they were no help. I do remember one of the CMs telling me that they recently spent "a lot of money" (CMs words) on new video games and equipment. I vaguely remember her mentioning wii games.

I too worried that DD9 would find the club too babyish for her, but she really did love it. DH and I were careful to pick the kids up about 15 minutes before Wishes started as we thought they would enjoy seeing it from the beach. Honestly, they were quite put out with us when we showed up and didn't seem the least bit interested in the idea of fireworks! That's how much the didn't want to leave! :rotfl:

My son is 7 and loved it... he played the games and watch the movies and had a great time!

Thank you both for the feedback and information!

Thought this might help those asking about commute times...

Super! That really helps with commute times.

We have taken the bus directly from TTC to AK and AK to TTC. It seems to be faster than taking it from the Polynesian to AK because there are no extra stops at other resorts or BB. I can't speak to the frequency of buses from TTC to AK, but we have always found one waiting or just arriving when we were ready to go.

Thank you! That's what we'll do.

They recently changed the age restrictions from 4 down to 3, but the child must be toliet trained and able to go by themselves or able to go tell one of the workers to take them.

OMG. I leave in 3 days and I had no idea the NV Club would accept a 3-year old (I had always seen 4). My DD (3) has been potty-trained since December, so she would be OK. Of course, all my ADRs are for 4 people and we're going during free dining. I'm thinking aloud. We could totally use a signature night without the kids, and I'm sure they would love it.

Anyways, I'm rambling, thanks for all the info on the NV Club!

Keep the ressie as is... you can always show up with LESS people in your party than orignally planned... they will seat you just fine.... My son LOVED it!!! The hubby and I had a great time out! It is SO worth it!

I was there in early August and in my room on the desk was a round colorful paper listing bounce back offer, I believe 40% off, if I booked before I departed.:goodvibes

Hey, kdunkle! It was great to meet you, too! Your daughter is such a cutie!! What were the odds we'd bump into each other along the road to the castle after rope drop?? :thumbsup2

It all went by way too fast didn't it? I am just now getting back to the boards and hope to be posting a review a little later this evening *fingers crossed*; can't wait to read yours! :goodvibes

So Tess did a great job of preparing our family for the infamous "Poly Pout" - totally a real phenomenon, btw - but what we weren't prepared for was the Poly Plummet back to reality. :sad1: Ouch! That hurts! OMGoodness, finding the motivation to move beyond the daydreaming is in the same realm of finding a needle in a haystack. We never did experience this at any of the other WDW resorts. The Poly is special. :cloud9:

Our flight from Detroit Metro was right on time as was the Magical Express; nothing like that sign. ;)

The Poly felt like home from the moment we walked through the door. This is a resort RICH in textures - love it! The young woman at check-in was very sweet. She had real flower leis for my husband and I (a very thoughtful touch) for our 15 year anniversary celebration. They also gave us "Happy Anniversary" pins and "We're Celebrating" buttons for the kids.

We arrived near noon and our room was ready. We requested and received Tahiti and were put in a 3rd floor GV room (3012). DH especially enjoys being able to go to the room and escape the theme parks even momentarily, so the view couldn't have been more perfect. From our balcony, we could see the side of Tokelau to the right and the walkway along the longhouse in front of us, but the palm trees totally blocked out any view of Rapa Nui behind us. This is a very quiet longhouse - most of the time we wondered if there was anyone else staying there. :)

The pools were never crowded and the line for the slide never exceeded 4-5 minutes; it was usually walk-on. The beaches were never crowded for Wishes. Even 5 minutes before the show we were still able to find chairs.

Our mousekeeper kept the room clean and gifted us with the traditional Mickey with leis, an elephant, and a bunny for the kids. With the exception of a neglected shower head, we didn't encounter any other cleanliness issues and no bed bugs. ;) The room was in great shape and HUGE! Plenty of room for the 5 of us. We loved having the 2 sinks. The beds were very comfortable and my 12 year old DS was also very comfortable on the pull-out couch.

We found that not only the cast members were quite friendly, but so were the other guests staying at the resort and we loved staying at a monorail resort. The kids, of course, loved the parks, but we did have a difficult time dragging them from the pool and to the parks more than once. We nearly missed a couple of ADRs.

The grounds were beautiful. Immaculate. One of my most favorite things was getting up before the family and heading out for coffee, quiet, and early morning pictures. We came home with over 700 photos - probably a hundred or so just from the grounds. :thumbsup2 Our family is completely looking forward to returning. Since most of the views have been covered here already, I thought I might just include a few of my favorites from the resort.

Thank you to everyone on the board who helped make our Poly vacation magical! :flower3:

Oooooh....I love the first shot of the sunrise between the trees! And the cute ducks! That's a great shot.

The Poly is definitely special!! :)

Those pictures are oh so pretty! Thanks for sharing. Were the parks crowded? I am leaving for WDW in 8 days, any tips or advice or must do, must eats??

thanks! princess:

disneymumma this pictures are incredible. Thank you for sharing them. You just brightened my day :goodvibes

Last year we stayed in Samoa, 1st floor on the volcano pool side... We absolutely loved that spot, but I can't remember what the room number was!! Anyone know what those room numbers are on that pool side of Samoa??

Happy to be subscribing for the first time. I feel like I'm cheating on the AKL, but we are going for 5 nights/ 4.5 days, and with such a short trip (pulling DD out of school) we want to they a monorail resort for expediency.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun shooting pictures. The ducks were a hoot! Once they figured out I only had coffee, they hit the proverbial bricks only to come back the next morning! lol Only 2 more days for you guys! Be safe and have fun!! :goodvibes

The parks were GREAT! The longest wait was TSM at 40 minutes. Many rides we were able to walk right on. Average time? No more than 10 minutes. Pretty wonderful!

There was so much great advice I was able to gather from all the wonderful people on the board. But, bringing plastic hook suction cups for the bathroom to hang swimsuits and keeping the refrigerator cabinet door ajar..those were a couple of priceless tips! As far as food..my DS12 loved the 1/3 lb bacon burger at Captain Cook's, my DD7 LOVED Chef Mickey's, DH couldn't say enough about The Wave, and my DS10 and myself, if it were possible, would have made it over to EPCOT everyday for some Kaki Gori in Japan! :lovestruc I know your vacation will be fabulous! :)

Thank you, BreezysMom and dragonfly!!

Less than 2 days to go :cool1::yay::dance3:

Anyways, we're driving down I-75 and plan to take Western Way. We went this way to Beach Club last year. I just printed the google directions and afer you get off Western Way, these directions are very confusing. Does anyone have other directions to Poly from Western Way?

TIA!

Never mind - found some easy directions on Mapquest.

disneymumma - thanks for the awesome pics. I'm about to burst, I'm so excited!
