Aloha,
It has been two years since I last visited DL and I think about time I went again. ;)
DH still needs a little convincing, but I found out if we complete our travel by 6/13, the air fare from our island is hundreds less, so seems like a good time to me. :bounce:

And I tried that web site suggested in another thread (getawaytoday.org - MAHALO NUI SCANMOM) and found that that we could get a free childs passes for each adults for DL, Knotsberry, Universal, and Seaworld, - so that means it would be a great time to bring the grandkids too. :D (Too bad the airlines didn't have a similiar deal LOL) .

Anyhow, we won't drive in California, too much for us, we don't even have a redlight on island. So we want a hotel that is really walking distance to DL. And since I am not sure if they have moved the gates...any suggestions. DH says he won't carry any tired children and since the kids are 5,6, and 11...they are too big for strollers. So we want a hotel that is tired kid walkable. Can't afford onsite.

We are considering the Anaheim Fairfield by Marriott (we stayed there last time and they have free kids meals at Millies); the Radisson Maingate (also featuring free kids meals) and Castle Inn (closest?) Does anyone know of a site that maps all the offsite hotels and gives reviews? Any suggestions?

I am hoping we can pull this off...Mary Jo, I would be very happy if we could meet again...
Look forward to everyone's advice (and cross my fingers- getting to meet with you all)

Mahalo,
Donna

Aloha from Kailua (Oahu)! Someday I would love to visit Molokai!

As to your question about nearby hotels...Best Western Park Place Inn is right across the entrance, but it may cost a little more than some other very nearby hotels.

Desert Inn and Suites is supposed to be great, especially if you have a family travelling with you. I haven't stayed there myself, but one of my friends with a husband and 3 kids stayed there and thought it was perfect. It is also right across the entrance, and I believe has a refrigerator and microwave.

We stayed at Carousel Inn once which was very inexpensive, also very near the entrance. It was a large room, and I think had a fridge and micro too.

We really like the Howard Johnson's. It's a little further away, but still walking-distance, and they have a shuttle. It is the most "hotel-like" with interior hallways, and has a nice pool. Good value for the price.

Good luck, and have a great time on your trip!! (If you get a chance, swing by the Grand Californian, maybe have a bite to eat at Storyteller's Cafe. Beautiful hotel!)

Good Luck in convincing the husband on Disneyland. A good site to check out for reviews and mapping of off-site hotels/motels is mouseplanet.com. They also have a lot of good info on the parks themselves. Personally I would never stay at the Castle Inn even though I wanted to since the first time I visited Disneyland as a child (everyone I know that has stayed there had major issues) plus it will be a killer walk for a tired adult much less a tired child (about 3/12 to 4 city blocks). When I took my nieces (5 & 6) last year we stayed at the Desert Inn, good value for the price and it was a short walk for them at night about 5 minutes from exit to hotel door. We had a room that had a small living room with hide-a-bed and a large bedroom with 2 queen size beds and paid $69 booking it on their website. Definatley nice for the amount of people we had. This year we are staying at The Best Western Park Place Inn, I got a good package price through get away for them. Have fun searching and if all goes well next April I'll be visited your end of the world. :)

Hawaii is my favorite place in the whole world! :) I always wondered when you live in "paradise" where do you go on vacation? Now I know!!!

Aloha and Howdy from I-DA-HO! :D Another transplant from Oahu checking in. ;) I wish I could be there, but I can't. :( I hope you can swing it Donna. :)

Can't help with the hotels, sorry.

Finding the best hotel/best hotel deal also probably also depends on whether walking to the park is fine or whether you would need a shuttle service. Some of the hotels mentioned already are considered walking distance to the parks, but, after a long day, particularly with little ones, will you still feel up to walking? Such hotels, due to their close proximity, tend not to have any shuttle service. (Then again, if you go with a place further away and must depend on shuttle service, you may find that you have to be patient in waiting for shuttles!)
