:wave2: and :welcome:

We returned from our trip Tuesday night and since the post-vacation depression has set in, I thought maybe starting my TR would help ease the "last week at this time I was..............."

My PTR can be found in my signature if you want some background / general babbling from me. Our trip is filled with some Pixie Dust and some not so great moments. We experienced lots of firsts for us as well. This was the second trip for the boys and the third for me and DH.

I'm going to try to put in chapter links as I think that makes reading easier (I know I prefer seeing links in TR's.) I have almost 800 pics, so this may take awhile. Oh, and I forgot to take a lot of food porn this trip..........sorry foodies!

Maybe you are asking yourself what in the heck is stink-eye? Well, I hadn't heard of the term before; DH is the one that started refering to it on the trip. It is when someone gives you a dirty look or the evil eye. There were plenty of those, mostly from my kids though!

The trip was planned starting in January and everyday I swear I spent time on the DIS. :surfweb: I'm obsessed, what can I say? We, ok I, had a list of must do items that I hadn't been able to squeeze in before. It include Spectro and the Lion King show at AK and seeing the opening ceremony at MK.

Would I be able to get these done? How much can go wrong and can alternative plan be put in place?

For those that don't want to wade through my PTR, last April was our first family trip and we stayed off site. In Sept DH and I did a 3 day trip without the kids to the Poly and it was wonderful!

We weren't planning on going again this year, but when Disney released military ticket and room discounts, I thought how could we pass this up? They might not offer again............... so I talked DH into another trip (plus I scored awesome airfare into MCO). It was suppose to be on budget, but I ended up changing us to the Poly again (I didn't tell DH until after I made final payment ). We loved April with the low crowds and the Flower/Garden festival at Epcot so it was natural to go again in April of this year. However, after the crowds we experienced this year, I think we got spoiled by none in September, so I think our future trip (whenever that may be) will be in the fall.

We stayed at the Poly 4/21 - 4/27.

Cast of characters:

Me - turned 36 the weekend before our trip. I work in insurance so a vacation is very much needed (or required :rotfl:) Loves the castle.

DH - 40 - active duty military. Is currently stationed 3 hours away and commutes home on weekends. Vacation time is very needed and quality family time very important. What better than to do it at Disney! Loves his Mickey ears.

DS9 - Evan - definate pre-teen and moody at times. Sometimes too cool for corny me. Wants nothing to do with princesses. Loves Goofy

DS4 - Alex - quite the character. Goofy and cranky all in the same minute. Can make me laugh so hard I'm crying and then next minute frustrate me so much I want to :scared1: Loves all characters except princesses.

I think my picture size is too big. I set it at medium in photobucket, but maybe need the small size? Can you re-size all at once or do they need done individually?

I was there from the 4/13-4/21 and was amazed at the number of people. I totally agree with you about going in the fall.

Let me back up a few days before our trip and tell you that DS9 woke up Sunday night sick, hurling chunk during the night. It was short lived (after a couple trips to the bathroom), but I let him stay home from school the next day to rest up since we were leaving on Wednesday morning. Don't want any sick kids!! Can you see where I'm going??????????........................

So the night before we leave the kids are cleaned up and in bed at a decent time and I'm packing up a few last minute items waiting for DH to get home so I can pack his stuff too. It was at least 11 before I was asleep, slept well until around 1am then I tossed and turned until around 2am. I'm laying there in that half sleep/mind spinning state of pre-vacation jitters and what do I hear???

.......
.......
.......
.......
.......
.......

I wake up to Alex coughing, what sounded like some nasty coughing at that and then him telling me he was sick. He threw up a couple of times in the bathroom, but had also hurled chunks in his bed. Just what I had planned on doing at 2am, but when you have kids, you do what ya gotta do, so I threw him in the bathrub and then had to wash his bedding up. After his quick bath he went back to sleep. By this time, I figured why go back to sleep, so I stayed up, made some coffee and got dressed. I decided at 3:15 to get some children’s Tylenol for Alex in case we needed it as Evan had a terrible headache the following day. So off to Walmart I go.

All the while all I think of is "WHAT DO I DO???!!!! DO WE GO OR DO WE CANCEL? IF WE CANCEL WE ARE OUT A LOT OF $$$$ AT THIS POINT!!!" :scared:  :scared1: :confused3

Ok, so here is my "Bad Parent" moment and please don't flame me....................................

I woke everyone up when I returned home and we went on with the trip as planned. I knew it would be over shortly since Evan only threw up a couple of times and was then fine within in a few hours. So everyone but Alex was up and ready to go. I was going to just grab Alex in his jammies and put him in the car with clothes to change him at the airport, but he completely woke up and wanted nothing to do with traveling in pajamas. We were out of the house well before 4:30 and it is a short drive to the DSM airport. During the drive I had to pull over on the side of the off ramp when Alex screams he is going to be sick again. Good thing there wasn't much traffic! When we get to the airport, I dropped off everything and everyone and parked the car. Inside, check in was quick and we went to the gate listed on the ticket (foreshadowing here....).

So we sit and wait for the time to pass and Alex tells me a couple of times that he has to to throw up again. Of course there isn't anything in his tummy to actually throw up at this point, so it is mostly that gagging thing. It was 20 minutes before departure and we couldn’t figure out where everyone was and why our flight wasn't listed on the screen where we were sitting, so I headed to check the departure TV and sure enough our gate was changed and we didn’t realize it. They were just starting to board when we got there, so no big deal. In my lack of sleep and the chunk hurling, I wasn't thinking too straight. I was just praying that the sickness was over................... and what would I do with our park plans and dining reservations. I was a little stressed at this point, especially with such little sleep.

Here are some pics of us in the airport. He doesn't look too sick.................

The rest of us waiting:

Alex on the plane:
100_2027.jpg

Alex seemed to be doing better. He certainly didn't act sick! He had some crackers on the plane and a little drink. When we were getting ready to descend to MSP, he started throwing up again. Good thing for those barf bags! They work very well!
We were the last ones off the plane and the nice flight attendant gave us some bottled water and napkins to take with us. We grabbed the stroller that we gate checked and headed towards gate C19. I stopped at the TV screen to double check our gate and sure enough, we had to change to G19, not C19 like I thought, so we had to change terminals after all. So far this trip is off to a WONDERFUL start! What else can go wrong??!!!

The layover in MSP was fine. We grabbed some stuff to eat from McDonalds while waiting. Alex didn’t throw up all during the layover. We boarded and had a 3 hour flight to MCO. Evan, Alex and I sat in one row with Keith across the aisle. Alex fell asleep during most of this flight. When he woke up, he got sick again. He slept some more and then got sick during landing. How much stress can I handle!!! :scared1: With little sleep and this going on I'm surprised I didn't have a break down and end up in tears somewhere along the way! We grabbed some extra barf bags to take with us in case he got sick again.

So chunk hurling turns into bad parent of the day for me (I felt like it anyway, but I felt like I didn't have any other choice than to go!)

I'll update again later with more pics. What else can go wrong, right? Perhaps once we actually get to Disney there will be some Pixie Dust???

Aw, poor kid and poor mom. :(

Hope it all smooths out for you guys!

:welcome: to my readers and to you lurkers out there as well. Please feel free to say :wave2:. I don't bite, truly I don't. My kids, well sometimes they do just to see which one can :scared: off the other one first.

I last left you with a chunk hurling child getting off the airplane at MCO........

We made it out of the terminal and to the fake monorail, down to level 1 to the “magic Mickey bus”. This was our first time using ME so I was a little nervous about how the whole process worked, but you fellow DISsers didn't let me down and you provided me with enough info to make me look like a pro! I walked us right up to the ME area where we were waved on past the long line of people in line for the count since we had the paperwork. Walked up to:
100_2035.jpg

Evan wasn’t paying attention to signs and thought we were staying at the “French Silk Quarter” resort. (I had originally booked POFQ and then changed resorts without telling the kids) :lmao: He didn't catch the resort until the driver asked DH which resort and then Evan stood there kind of stunned. He had really liked the look of the volcano pool! The CM confirmed our info and we were ushered right on through. No one was waiting in our line so we got on a bus right away and they took off shortly afterwards. The first bus I saw was:
100_2036.jpg

But instead, we had a cruise line bus. I was fine with it. Heck, I wasn't the one having to drive! We left at 2:56 and pulled in to the Poly (first stop) at 3:30. It was nice to be last on and first off :woohoo:

Some pics from the bus ride:
100_2037.jpg

100_2038.jpg

During the drive, the driver narrated some stuff to us and one thing he said was to check out Chef Mickey’s and said that even if you call and get told no availability to still show up and that you would get seated, especially if you are staying at a Disney resort. I thought this was odd....just because you are staying onsite doesn't guarantee you a dinner ressie. :confused3

Aahhh.............it was nice to sit back and relax on the bus and let someone else drive. I give the ME :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Definately a wonderful perk for staying on-site.

Oh, and Alex didn't get sick once we were off the plane! I really think the plane ride may have had something to do with the hurling as well. Could our luck be changing? Will it not be a total disaster after all? I could only hope................... stay tuned for more! :goodvibes

Hi there :wave2: Just found your TR, I'm in! So sorry to hear about Alex, I would have done the same thing!

We were at disney April 19-28. Hmmm... Wonder if our paths crossed. Looking forward to your TR. Bum about having a sick kid, hopefully, he got better soon!

Thanks for joining in! I was a hard decision to go knowing he was sick, but it was very short lived.

Hi there! You will have to look for yourself in our pics! I tend to do that when I read TR's that involve our dates! :)

I left off with me maxing and relaxing on the "Magic Mickey Bus". Well not completely relaxed, but getting there. At least there was no more sickness!! Alex was all better!!! :thumbsup2

First stop, the Polynesian Resort!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

We unloaded our carryons and stroller from the bus and went to check in. I was video taping everything as I don't know when we will be back at the Poly and I  that place!

I had done the online check in prior to leaving and I only had to wait for one person to finish up. In the meantime I had sent DH and the kids over the the tv/coloring area in the lobby with all our stuff. Online check in was really quick and easy. All I had to do was show them photo ID, they asked if I wanted to use the credit on file, they handed me my packet, leis, pins and show me on the map where we would be calling the next 6 nights home. I had put in a request for Tokeleu when I made the reservation and we did received room 2925 in Tokelau so I was happy, plus the room was ready!! We stayed in the same longhouse in Sept and really liked it. The rooms are a little larger and the location is great!

I finished checking in, I went to get the boys and the CM's were getting ready to do hula lessons in the lobby, so I asked the boys if they wanted to participate in this and they did. It was really cute and they had a lot of fun.

After the hula lessons, we made our way to our room on the 2nd floor of Tokeleu. This really is a great location and I highly recommend it. We always cut through the quiet pool to get anywhere. I videotaped the room and then unpacked our carry one items and then we got ready to swim. Sorry, no room pics from this trip as it was identical to our Sept trip so I will post those pics for you.

Sorry for the long, drawn out TR. I have lots of pics to go with all the details.

I last left you with us checking out the room. As soon as I turned on the video camera to record our room, you can hear the kids asking where their swim suits are and that they want to swim. Imagine that! Kids wanting to swim on vacation! Well, good thing I make lists and lists. I had of course packed all our swim suits in the carryon bags so they could do just that. By now it was around 4:20 so we donned our suits and headed to the volcano pool to swim while Keith and I enjoyed an adult beverage. Nothing screams vacation more than grabbing that first tropical drink (or beer or soda or whatever you fancy). I personally love me a pina colava from the pool bar at the Poly! (pina colada swirled with raspberry. yummy!!)

DH and the boys would have loved to rent one of these boys, but unfortunately, it didn't fit into the "plan". We were able to get a life jacket from the marina for Alex to use during the week and we were able to keep in our our room. No need to return it after each use. This was definately nice and highly recommend rather than bringing your own.

After swimming for an hour or so, it was time for
Letter-Page006.jpg

I made dinner invitations for all our meals. Unfortunately, I would forget to set them out in time (some of the days). Last year I did letters for each morning that described what we were doing the entire day along with "gifts from Mickey". That trip was a surprise. This one they knew about and helped with planning. Ok, so they didn't plan much; they listened to me talking about the planning. :rotfl:

Around 5:30 we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner with Mickey. Cleaned up, we hopped on our first real monorail ride of the trip to make the trek to the Contemporary

100_2066.jpg

This was our time eating here. Yes, I had read the bad reports on dinner, but since we were on the DDP, I was going to make the most of it and get in as many character meals as I could while Evan (DS9) was still a Disney "child". Besides, at times that kid can EAT!!! And what better way than at a buffet where he can have anything he wants. We checked in at 6:19 for our 6:20 reservation, was handed a pager and went to get our pics taken. I had the photograpther take one with my camera and it turned out really well. Actually the one they want you to buy turned out really good to, but I wasn't up for $30 dinner pictures this trip.

100_2068.jpg

Why my kids have their hands in the bowl, I have no idea. However I've seen other TR pics where their kids did the same thing. Must be a kid thing??!!?? We wandered the gift shop in the Cotemporary and just as we finished looking, we were paged.
100_2070.jpg
100_2072.jpg

We had a table in an odd spot, but we weren’t squished in, which was nice. Donald was first and then Mickey. Donald didn't seem to happy to be there that night and I definately felt rushed with him. Mickey was good though. They came before we were able to get food.
100_2077.jpg
100_2082.jpg

Then up for some food. Boys had nuggets, Mickey mac & cheese, cheese cubes. For dessert, ice cream. So glad we were on the DDP. No way was nuggets and cheese worth $15 for a kid. My little food porn that I managed. I forgot to take a lot this trip since we did buffets. I guess I can't complain that Alex didn't eat much for dinner. He had hurled chunks earlier that day. I am happy to report that there was no more chunk hurling from any kids here on out. :wizard:

100_2084.jpg
100_2085.jpg
100_2102.jpg

I had some Mickey mac (ok), some other pasta with white sauce, salmon and rice, parm mashed potatoes (YUMMY), roast beef (more like prime rib, good but fatty) and some broccoli with cheese sauce. The salmon and the mashed potatos were delicious. For dessert, Mickey dome (too rich), key lime tart (good) and a mini cheesecake (AWESOME).

Then we saw Goofy, Minnie and then Pluto. Minnie was so sweet. Alex had brought his small Mickey doll with us and she hugged it and then drew us a heart as she left. Pluto danced with Alex (as best you can in a restaurant). And Goofy, well is Goofy :rotfl:
100_2100.jpg
100_2094.jpg

100_2089.jpg

Alex had to use the bathroom and while I was gone Minnie brought out celebration cupcakes for our anniversary. Too bad I missed it. The total bill was $114, plus approx $20 for tip. Way too much for a buffet, but it was a one time thing. I don't know that we will be back for dinner again any time soon.

After dinner, Alex got the first pressed penny (a Mickey design) and then we monorail back to the Poly where we checked out the gift shop upstairs, checked out Capt Cooks where we got a refillable mug for me and a small bottle of wine for Keith. We went back to the room and our luggage was waiting so I unpacked, loaded up the bag for park day and set wake up call for 7am. We were in bed watching TV by 9 pm. It had been a long day for all of us!!

What will tomorrow hold for us on our first park day? Stay tuned..............

Hi there, I am here! I just hopped over from my TR when I saw you signed on! Great start so far and I love babbling! I tend to do the same on my TR's because I just have so much to say.

your room looks huge- i know you said you were thinking about staying at AKL next time so just be warned that those rooms are a lot smaller. Or at least they look it from your pics. I want to stay at the poly now after looking at your pics!I am looking forward to the rest of your trip and hope your Sunday strom experience wasn't too bad!

Glad you popped over! My TR's are usually so detailed because I write it up usually while on the trip (I slacked this time) and then transfer it over to my scrapbooks that I do for each trip. It is nice to look back through the pictures and have such details on what we did.

I really love staying at the Poly. I'm afraid next time it will draw us back and I really want to try other resorts as well. It is just sooo nice being on the monorail and I love the large rooms. The values make me nervous being so much smaller. We like to plan in a good amount of resort time on our trips so the kids can swim and hang out.

After a fairly good night of sleep, I woke up at 7am to Mickey saying Stitch was loose in the MK. Slowly everyone got up, I made coffee (love having a coffee maker and fridge in the room) and were out the door around 8. This was our first time using the buses, so I was a little nervous about the whole process. It ended being a good experience this trip, although we only used the buses a couple of times. A bus pulled up within a few minutes of getting to the stop, which is very close to our room (gotta love the location of Tokeleau!!). It was a 15 min bus ride to AK. We went to will call to turn in our GAD vouchers (Keith, Evan and I made breakfast casseroles for the Salvation Army for the homeless; Alex was considered to young to get the voucher even though he did help us). We used the GAD to upgrade to the military salute tickets. The CM was able to take care of our 3 gad/upgrades in one transaction, but Alex’s was a separate purchase (no big deal to me, but she acted like we would have a fit). We did add on the waterpark and more option this trip; it was worth a try for only $26! It took awhile to complete and when we finished, we went to the turnstiles on the way far left side of the park. We waited 5 min or so and they opened up. I didn’t see or hear any opening ceremony though; maybe we missed it, although I don't know how since we were there so early and not far from the turnstiles at the ticket booths. Were we were at the very left hand side turnstiles, they still had a cover on it and they never uncovered it. I was surprised they never did as I had read on TGM that they uncover them all. There were others in front and behind us waiting there as well, so we had to merge to the other ticket stiles. I'm sure there was stink eye in there from other people, but what could we do....

Evan took some pictures around the entrance while we did our ticket transaction.

100_2109.jpg

When I'm trying to plan out each park day, AK has me the most nervous and most stumped. We ended up doing the same plan of attack as we did last year and it worked out fine. I am one of "those people" that plan out not only which park on which day, but a 1, 2, 3 of attractions. Now, in my defense, we don't necessarily follow it, but it nice to have for a "what do we do now" moment. I don't know that I even looked at my daily touring plans except maybe if we sat down for a break. After last year's trip when I decided that we WILL be back in the future, it didn't matter if we actually saw everything or not, that we would eventually see it on future trips.

Anyway, back to our day. Keith got fp’s to Everest while the boys and I headed to Dinoland. Alex wanted to check out some of the animals right away so we did for a little while and then onward. (trying to slow down, but commando in me want
100_2119.jpg
ed to get going to stuff)

We stopped to meet Pooh and Tigger on the path right before Dinoland. We were the very first ones of the day there (sorry, those pics are on our photopass). After that Keith met up with us before we even hit a ride. He was either really fast or we were really slow that day. He took Alex on Tricerotop Spin while Evan and I went on Prime Evil Whurl. Afterwards, Evan & I went on Dinosaur while Keith and Alex played some of the games. Alex ended up winning four stuffed animals and was a very happy little boy.

100_2122.jpg

100_2274.jpg

It was nearing 10am, so we headed to
100_2140.jpg

as we wanted to meet the characters while Festival of the Lion King was showing (shorter lines you know). We stopped to see Stitch on the way to CMM. Then we came across Pocahontas.
100_2145.jpg

As we were walking to more characters, the CM’s kept trying to get more people into Lion King. We kept going…..... Then we saw Donald, Minnie, Mickey, Chip and Dale and Goofy all with very little wait. Chip and Dale didn't have a photopass photographer with them, but it was a hoot watching them interact with each other. The loved seeing pics of themselves in the autograph books I made.
100_2163.jpg

100_2151.jpg

You could tell the minute the 10 am show let out as the area flooded with people and the lines for the characters were long. Once we finished up, we then headed over to the Lion King show for 11 am show. This was one of my "must do's" We lined up with a short wait outside before they opened the door. We sat in the lion section on the end. It was a wonderful show and we all loved it. At the end of the show, the boys were selected to parade around the arena with instruments and dance (pixie dust). It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to see it again!
100_2186.jpg

100_2206.jpg

100_2204.jpg

By now we were hungry as we hadn’t had breakfast, so we went to lunch at flame tree bbq. Evan had the ribs, (came with baked beans and coleslaw with choc mousse for dessert and a bottled water and ate ALL the ribs!). I had the pork sandwich (came with baked beans) choc mousse for dessert with a water. It was supposed to be the key lime mousse, but they messed up and I didn’t catch it in time. This was the first time using the DDP with all of us so I was a little nervous making sure we got everything that we were suppose to. Keith & Alex had the kid’s drumstick meal (remember Evan used an adult CS for his meal). Each came with 2 drum sticks, grapes and cookies. Alex didn’t eat any chicken, only some grapes. Keith ate all the chicken, from both meals. The seating area was pretty crowded, but Keith secured a seat before I arrived with the food. Good thing we found him easily. It really was crazy and we ate before noon. The small water in the picture below is the one you get with a kids meal. The adult bottled water is the larger one. I would order these and save them for later.

100_2213.jpg

100_2215.jpg

100_2217.jpg

After lunch, we hit the bathrooms and then made our way to Africa to fp the safari. Keith battled the crowd while the boys and I waited near the Dawa bar/Tusker House Restaurant (I should have had a drink!) After the fp was in hand we headed see how long the wait was for Kali. Along the way Evan stopped to play the drums and we stopped for a photopass in front of the tree.

Kali was 55 min standby so we went on the trail nearby until it was time to get our next set of fp’s.
100_2246.jpg

100_2249.jpg

We grabbed some fp’s for kali and then went to ride Everest. Along the way we stopped for another photopass pic in front of the mountain. They also did a magic shot of the boys where Alex was jumping up and the balloons are imposed into his hand. It's really cute and I can't wait for the cd. While Evan & I rode Everest with 2 sets of fp’s, Alex & Keith went to Dinoland to play some more games since Keith still had vouchers left. Evan loved it this year and didn't have any problem riding twice in a row. It didn't bother me this year either, although Space Mountain would be later on..................
100_2268.jpg

100_2269.jpg

We met up with them in Dinoland, got some ice cream and then onward to Kali. After Kali we went to the safari. Safari had no wait either, standby or FP; we completely walked on this ride and could have done so without the fp's. After the safari, we were ready to leave the park, but we were blocked due to the parade coming back to the end in Africa, so we watched the rest of that until it was over, and then headed out of the park. It was a cute parade, but not a must do for next time.

We left around 4:15 and had awhile to wait for a bus. Once we were loaded, it then had to go to BB before dropping at the Contemporary and then Poly. We were headed to:

I have to tell you that I made these invites in my scrapbooking software. the background is actually from a picture that I took last year. You can see a portion of DS's hand on the top of the sign that I couldn't remove very well.

I am absolutely LOVING your TR. I love all of the pictures. One can never have enough Disney pictures in their TR :lmao:

First off, I would have felt like a "bad mommy" too, the morning Alex was sick, but I also admit, that I would have trudged along with the plans as well. I'm so glad everything worked out...... once you landed that is.

I love the picture of your boys with Donald , that's really cute.

I also plan which parks on which days AND what we're doing first second and third just to have no times where we don't know what we'll do next.

Can't wait to read more! Great job!!!

Our upcoming trip will be the first time with the regular ddp, last May we had the QS, so i'm interested in all of your meals. We have Chef Mickey's booked and also Ohana. We are doing the breakfast with lilo and stitch!

I was just browsing a few trip reports and stumbled upon yours! Since you stayed at the Poly and our upcomming trip will be there as well I think I'll hop on board. :thumbsup2

First off, from what I've seen in your pictures so far it was not very crowded. We are worrying about our trip in June with huge crowds forecasted. :scared1:

So far your trip looks great. I'll be looking forward to your next update. :goodvibes
