Almost Empty MK

My sister was at a conference last week at the Dolphin. One night, after MK closed, her company paid for it to be reopened.. at least Frontierland and Tomorrowland were opened. They had mini-bars setup along the path between the two lands and around Tomorrowland. She got to go on Space Mountain 6 times in a row.

There were only 500-600 people in the park, and then they had dinner catered in Cosmic Rays. She said that it was a gourmet buffet and they setup a dance floor. She said that as they were leaving to the Goodnight Kiss, there were only about 10 of them on Main Street.

Next night, they took over HOB and had KC & the Sunshine Band play for them while they were eating.

She works for a drug company. Needless to say, she had a wonderful time.

Now, why can't I get a job with a company that treats its employees so well? The only place that I get to go on the company 1-2 times a year is Cherry Hill, NJ.

My mom works for a cardiologist, and the drup reps always bring great food. They threw some great parties for a recent conference. All free to the guests! It's nice to hear they can throw themselves some fantastic parties! But, on the flip side, I'd rather they cut the prices of their drugs, and not make such a profit that they can afford to cater a party at MK.

From what I understand certain Pharmaceutical companies treat their employees rather well...and can afford to, look at what they charge for some medications!

Our Similac Rep will bring in enough Olive Garden (to go) for at least 30 people during lunch time---which is always a huge tray of Lasagna, salad, bread sticks and a big tray of Tiramisu!

You would not believe some of the gourmet food that they cook at the parks! Some nights when I got off of work at MGM I'd have to walk right through the party and man did the food look good. Almost every party they cooked for was prepared behind Star Tours and thats where I worked! I'd smell it and man did it taste good. I knew some of the cooks back there and trust me, they new what they were doing

Those parties sound fabulous! The drug reps get all the good stuff while I get yelled at by clients due to high drug prices.... so fair.

Pathetic corporate excess, with the amount of money medications are commanding these days an obvious way to reduce their cost would be to cut out this type of excess. I am not bitter or complaining. Just saying that drug companies have a certain responsiblity and this one has dropped the ball

I am sure that this functon broght in a lot of money for Disney. Too bad it is brought in on the backs of the ill and infirm.

When I attended the Pillsbury Bakeoff in Orlando, we had a Private party at Universal Studios.Started with a Cocktail Party, viewing the Mardi Gras parade. We (500 or so participants)then were able to ride about 4-5 rides...there were only 4 of us on King Kong!
Then three buffets were set up-each a different cuisine- with a 'fake " Blues Brothers"(quite good group) and celebrity look-alikes ,& magicians for entertainment.

It was a fabulous evening...one I'll never forget.

I haven't felt the need to bring out the fire extinguisher.

My sister knows the excesses that her present and former companies go through to "motivate" its sales force. She also understands that it is at the cost of the consumer for whom the drugs are prescribed.

It's a neat concept, though, to open up MK to just your company, though. I'm sure they are not the first or last company, drug-related or not to do this.

One of the major problems with her job is getting in to see the docs. Let's face it, if we can bill to see a patient, or not get paid to learn of a new drug that could help alot of our patients, we'd choose to be paid. The drug companies have spoiled the drs by bringing them and their staff extravagant gifts. Some are very appreciative and some tell them what they want next. She had one dr as a client in her last job who told all of his reps that he wanted a $100 gift certificate to Sharper Image because he wanted the massage chair. Guess what?? He got the chair because none of the reps would go against what he asked for because they wanted him to continue to use their drugs.

My point is, this is a small part of the big problem with prescription drug prices. The system has created itself a monster.

I'm just glad that my sister got to reap the benefits of the excess at least this one time.

About 10 years ago, my husband earned a reward trip through his job(Chrysler) to WDW. There was a fairly large group-about 5 or 6 busloads whenever we traveled. We stayed at the Beach Club and had 2 private parties. One after hours at MGM-we were able to go on Star Tours and GMR, had a great buffet, met Ninja Turtles and had a fireworks show. The other was at Typhoon Lagoon. All the slides were open and they had a buffet of steak, chicken, lobster, etc. It was our first trip to WDW and I didn't realize how lucky we were.

We could have gone again this year, but since we have gone twice since 1999, we chose to try a RCI cruise.

I do agree with you that it is SHAMEFUL that some doctors are "bought" by the drug companies. I'm a doctor, but since I teach and practice at a state-owned medical center, I am obligated to restrict any "gifts" from pharmaceutical companies to $3 or less. Doctors in private practice have no such restrictions.

I had the same experience this past April. Only it was a user conference for a software company. It was great fun! They even did spectromagic and the fireworks just for us. Cool.

When I was in Epcot in Feb., there was a "Private Party" going on in front of France. I saw a lay out of Shrimp, Salads, Lobster, Chicken, and Deserts of EVERY kind! They had this for about 100 People, and they had a great view of Illuminations. No-one was allowed to enter unless you had a Badge/Id from the company.

Because of my dad's job (he has a show on ABC radio), I was able to attend the 100 Years of Magic Media Event with him last December. They did a similar private party at MGM, very very cool. They had food everywhere, and all of the little ice cream carts and things were open. We had to walk down the red carpet where they hired people to be our cheering "fans." My dad and I were the only people in the R'n'R building and they ran it just for us. It was insane, like some crazy dream I'd have.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Don't let the pin traders hear that! They weren't too happy with food at a pin trading event.
