Allergy sufferers

Do candles trigger your allergies? I have never had allergies but this year I do and I have been burning lots of candles, I'm wondering if that is the cause?




DISclaimer..........I realize that the Dis not replace real life medical attention, but I am curious.

Certain ones make me feel like I have asthma and I don't have it!! I have some of the "fruity" White Barn candles and they really bother me. Yet, the "spice" type scents don't.

I usually am not bothered by them, but my mom (who has all sorts of allergies) can't even walk by a candle store without sneezing and getting congetsted.

I don't think it's allergies but I can't walk into a yankee candle store (or any other store with strong odors) and breathe.
I usually stand out front for a bit and then ease my way in....I feel like I'm suffocating and can't breathe, if I just walk in.

Yes - definately. The candles are obvious for me because my chest tightens up, but I find that there are also things I'm not even aware bother my allergies that sensitize me and seem to heighten my other allergies. The Christmas tree was a big one for me - I got a fake one so I could leave it up while we vacationed and discovered I was SOOO much healthier without a real tree.

Candle scents can absolutely cause allergy problems...

For me it's mostly the floral scents (like lavender, gardenia, etc.) that bother me.
I LOVE candles, so I stick with the "food" scents like the friuts, or the vanilla, and sometimes I can even do the "woodsy" scents like pine and patchouli. It just depends on who makes them.

But it wouldn't surprise me if you are alergic to the scents...
