DH and I have an "adults only" trip planned for my upcoming birthday. I've long been tempted to book a meal at V & A, but I always hesitate because of my food allergy issue.

I'm severely allergic to fish & shellfish - one of the reasons we love going to WDW because the chefs there are so accommodating. BUT with V & A, it seems that fish/seafood items are part of what make the experience so special....the caviar, the amuse bouche', etc.

Has anyone done V & A with a similar problem? Did you feel you were "missing out" or did you feel whatever substitutions were offered still made it feel like a very special meal?

Hi! :goodvibes

My Dad has a severe allergy to certain types of fish and V&A has always been wonderful at accomodating him.

As far as courses, there are three that feature seafood.
- The amuse often has 1 or 2 seafood options
- The 1st course is typically a choice of 1 seafood and 1 meat option
- The 2nd course is the "fish course"

When you book your V&A reservation they will ask about allergies. They will also call to confirm about 7-10 days prior to your reservation.

My Dad's menus have always been customized so that none of the fish he is allergic to are features. In their place he has often had vegetarian options, such as an amazing ratatouille with 100 year balsamic, a roasted butternut squash soup, a risotto of some kind etc. Plus, there is always the option of subbing any course for one you like on the dedicated vegetarian menu.

As far as the amuse goes, we have had one that was all tomato (a caprese salad, a tomato sorbet, a tomato custard and a tomato consume).

I would give V&A a try, it will be one of the most amazing dining experiences you have ever had!

My son is so allergic to fish that even the touch of the oils causes him to react and the smell can also cause a reaction. I'd never take him inside a dedicated fish restaurant. If you are not that severe then I am sure they can accomodate your allergies.

My d doesn't have an allergy, but doesn't like seafood in any way, shape or form. V&A gave her a menu with no seafood on it at all. I'm allergic to crab; I had other seafood on mine, since I like it. DH and I are on low salt diets. They accommodated that as well. And if there's a course without something you like on it, there's also a vegetarian menu available.

Shouldn't be an issue at all.

They will prepare your food specially, or you can substitute out the seafood dishes for something else. Arrange it ahead of time by calling V&A. If you can't be in the same room with fish you would probably have to skip it (along with pretty much every other restaurant at WDW.)

I read your wonderful review & it was what got me to thinking that V&A might be a possibility for us. Thanks!

Luckily, so far, mine is just an ingestion allergy (although I do have problems with some cosmetics that stay on the skin for a prolonged time). It has gotten much worse as I've gotten older. V&A is NOT a dedicated fish restaurant, but does feature selections for each course. My family enjoys seafood & I like for them to be able to enjoy it when they can since I don't prepare it at home.

I'm sorry your son is so allergic - I'd be very careful too!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement - now to convince dh. He'll be the one objecting to having to "dress up" on vacation. ;)
