My husband and I will be visiting Disney (8th time!), but have never seen Animal Kingdom. I have intense allergies (nasal and breathing related) to cats and dogs, and cannot take medication. I would like to know if anyone has experienced breathing related problems/allergies with regard to animals at the Kingdom, and if so, how you have coped with it.

Thank you - all comments and recommendations are welcome.

Have you ever been to a zoo? If you can handle a zoo, you can definitely handle AK.

Even if you can't handle a zoo, I would think you'd be fine at AK. Most of the animals are so far away from any human contact that you should be fine.

And welcome to the DIS!

There is not really a lot of live animals at AK. The closest you get are the paths in Asia and Africa which are like walking in a zoo. On the Safari you are on the truck. As long as you can drive by an animal you should be fine.

I can't really think of any other time you are in close contact with live animals.

Conservation Station does/did have goats you can pet and they sometimes bring out small animals to do a little talk about.

It depends on your allergies. If you can stand to be a few feet away then you will be fine anywhere. If you can not even be within a few feet then just avoid the places like I mentioned. There is still alot of AK without them.

My sweetpea has allergies to animals and asthma. She loves the AK though. We just make sure she keeps her hands clean and away from her face and there has never been a reaction while we were there. The animals aren't close enough for you to come into contact with them. I dont think you would have any problems.
