would any of you from the midwest with springtime allergies be able to tell me if you had allergies in florida? i'm from indiana, and my allergies are HORRIBLE right now. i'm trying to figure out if i need to plan for the same problem while at DW this coming week (yea!!).

thanks for any thoughts!

We never have to use allergy pills when were in Florida. We were at WDW during Easter Week, and it was pretty nice not having to take my Zyrtec. In Michigan, our allergies are awful. Yesterday, the pollen count was very, very high in this area. Today, we have a BLIZZARD!

My DW allergies clear up when we visit WDW,it's like magic. Then when we step off plane at Indianapolis, wham they're back. :confused3 :wave2:

I'm packing my allergy meds just in case, but hoping I won't have to use them!

When I lived in Missouri, I had no allergy problems. I have been suffering big time recently here in Florida. Everything is in bloom right now. If you have allergies, I'd bring medicine.

Although I am not in Florida I am sort of close and allergies here are terrible right now. As a matter of fact I just had to have my daughter (4) tested yesterday to find out exactly what she is allergic to because the meds she is currently taking are starting to not be effective. To make a long story short we are heading to Disney in 7 days and the doc told us to prepare for about the same pollen count, etc that we have in SC and to plan accordingly with her meds. So unfortunately it is looking like an allergy filled trip...plus with the flower show and all I am sure our noses will be quite stuffy...so we are just going to put lots of tissues in the backpack and suck it up (no pun intended).

It all depends on what pollens and molds you are allergic to. Chances are the plants that are pollenating in FL will be different than the ones in your home state unless you're in the same zone.
Unless you're allergic to everything, pollen count only makes a difference when you know which plants are active.

this is what i was hoping for...that whatever is blooming here won't be down there...thanks, fellow hoosier!

i will follow everyone's wise advice and bring medicine down with me, but those antihistamines really make me feel droopy!

(disneydiz...small world...i was just in northville last weekend! i'm originally from farm. hls., so i was visiting friends....i LOVE sizzling sticks!)

take care, and thanks!

I live in Florida, and I have TERRIBLE allergies. Wether it be oak pollen or other allergens, I'm always popping my allergy pills.

My asthma and allergies didn't bother me at all in Florida!! It was a really nice feeling!

Be careful in Animal Kingdom. This is a rare occurence. My friend,Theresa, has allergies and something in AK set them off.She went to the hospital with a bad asthma attack and ended up staying in the hospital for a month. She had never experienced anything like it. The staff told her husband who is a doctor that it had happened several times before (this was in 2000) at AK. Something, not sure if its plant or animal, sets some people's allergies off in a bad way. Take benadryl tabs with you to the park just in case.

I lived in Ohio when I was a kid and had bad allergies there, got allergy shots, took medicine all the time, etc. When my mother was considering moving us to Florida, the pediatrician told her that my allergies would probably be worse, and lo and behold he was right. I've lived here over 20 years, and my allergies are always bad, as I have found some new things to be allergic to such as orange blossoms. For the past month and a half, I have really been suffering, there is a lot of pollen right now, and I have taken so much Benadryl that my body seems to have become immune to it. I also have been having asthma attacks daily. If you have allergies, they may be better or worse here, depending upon what you are allergic to, but I would definately bring the medicine just in case..

Not from midwest, but here's our experience. My husband has bad fall allergies, but usually okay rest of year. We have lived in several states, same everywhere. He was fine at Disney for Spring Break and Christmas, but if we go in August, he is MISERABLE!! His eyes water and he blows his nose all day. I would take allergy medicine just in case.

Thanks for this thread. I was just thinking about this exact thing this weekend. My 3 yr old son has allergies, and they have flared up with all the pollen recently. I have no idea how he'll do in Florida in 2 weeks, hopefully better! We'll bring along all his meds of course.

Aidensmom-I know what you mean about being immune to Benedryl...We've had to give so much of it to my 3 yr old, I worry that he'll become immune! I don't even know if that's possible, but I've certainly thought about it...
