Rumor is that Allegiant is expected to announce MCO service tomorrow (Tuesday).

It will - at first - compliment Sanford, but eventually replace Sanford.

I just got the email from Allegiant making this announcement.

I was just looking at the web site and Sanford is not even an option to pick anymore when booking.

Yay, thats really exciting! It will eliminate our need for a car.

Doh! Just looked and there is nothing available for departure dates for us

When I click on the Orlando button on the travel map to see where they fly too, it lists a few places that go out of MCO but the majority are still out of Sanford. We would use the Appleton, WI location. Am I correct in assuming that they will eventually be going into MCO? That would be great, I won't take the kids alone unless I can use the ME.

Thanks.

If they don't already fly to Sanford they may not have the option to fly to Orlando unless they add more flights. We go thru Rockford, it used to show Orlando/Sanford and now it just shows Orlando as the option.

The flights into Orlando will be from 8 cities utilizing 5 planes. Orlando Sanford will continue flights from 21 cities utilizing 8 planes. There are no future plans to move all of Allegiant's flights to Orlando International. The flights going into Orlando will also have an increase in the rates due to the cost of flying into MCO.

Allegiant will pay approximately three times more to land Orlando than they do laning in Sanford, so will fly the routes into Orlando that they can gain back with the higher flight revenues.

I discussed this with a Sanford Airport authority just a few hours ago.

Wow, thanks for the info. No wonder the flights are no longer cheap from Rockford. Looks like we'll be flying SW from Milwaukee now :confused3

Thats interesting how they've changed their website. Rockford is not one of the listed cities in the article, but the arrival city used to say Orlando/Sanford and now it just says Orlando. Hopefully they will clarify so people don't get confused and expect ME and not know til they get to the airport!

I think this is great as long as the price don't increase significantly. It will be nice not to have to drive the extra hr from Sanford. Now I would like to know when they are going to be expanding the dates out past May 31st.

This is good news! Currently we only have AirTran running non-stop to MCO from our little airport.

I just checked availability & it's ok, only 1 flight in & out 6 days a week (better then AirTran's availability) but the prices are higher than AirTran. Guess I have some fare watching to do!

Anyone know what that website is that watches airfaires & emails you when the price drops?

That's going to cause some confusion. I tried it from Appleton, it shows:

ORLANDO, FL (SFB)

The actual reservation page shows:

APPLETON,WI (ATW) to ORLANDO/SANFORD,FL (SFB)

Hi Tara, I just bought tickets with Continental for $140/ RT out of ABE. It says connecting ABE to MCO via Newark on Continental but the part from ABE to Newark is really just a van to Newark which I've taken many times before with no complaints. Just a thought

That's a great price! I've done the van before as well to Newark, but not with the kids. DS12 gets motion sick & to have him in a van for an hour & then a plane would do him (and me!) in. I checked again today with Allegiant & their fares from ABE seem very high - more than the major carriers. They wanted $295RT for the dates I was looking at in March. Ouch! I've never paid more than $225RT from ABE!

YAY - They list Springfield,MO as one of the cities. I have wanted to use Allegiant, but the shuttle fees seemed too high. I hope that DME can be used with them.

DME can be used with any airline at MCO. It's the return resort bag check that is for particular airlines.

Yeah, I just checked ABE and with all the horrendous fees Allegiant charges it is much more expensive than PHL or BWI. My favorite is the $14 convenience fee for booking on their website :scared1: I stick with SW out of PHL or BWI and no bag fees!!!!
