We are trying to book a flight to MCO (Orlando) for March. Allegiant has great rates but after taxes and baggage fees it will still be more than we really wanted to pay. However, I will go crazy if we have another 12 hour drive.

If anyone has a promo code I would :worship::worship: :worship: at your feet.

Would like to know this also- how necessary is that $13.99 fee for assigned seating? We do have 2 kids- 11 and 7 by trip time, but don't most people still do a bit of accomodating and let parents move to sit with young children even if we have to go 2 and 2? Not a big deal. We often sit Mom and DD at one end of plane and DH and DS at another...

Also, I see a $6.99 fee for making sure you get priority boarding and with it comes overhead storage 'reservation'??? Is this necessary? Seems like exhorbitant fee-age, to me! Please weigh in.

Overhead storage reservation now ? soon they will charge for the air we breathe too .....

Are they flying into MCO now? From here they only fly into Sanford.

Yes it's changing to MCO! They just announced last week they now fly into MCO, no longer SAnford, beginning Feb. 10th. If you go from ABE, yes they will start MCO as of that date. They were advertising $59.99 one way fares but I searched & searched & came up with nothing less than $285 from ABE! Plus all their little fees, over $300...no deal if you ask me!

I was checking out the fares from ABE too. I did find a couple of $70 fares, but all of those fees :scared1:. I usually only carry a backpack that would fit under the seat, so the overhead storage doesn't matter. But $13.99 for seat selection and what are the checked bag fees?
Looks like I will stick with SW out of Philly for now.

There's a lot of talk about this on the transportation board. They seem to have some people who really know what they are talking about.

HI PAM!!!

What months did you see the $70 fares in? I was looking at early March & the fares are nuts. Very limited too - even Airtran has better availability from ABE - and at $260 a ticket (ouch) - lower than Allegiant. I've never paid more than $225 to go from ABE so these prices are killing me! At least they're non-stop, I've always flown with a connection which just wastes time, so I guess I need to suck it up & pay the extra $$ for the convenience of non-stop.

Don't pay the seat fees!!! Take what they give you. They will NOT split up kids from their parents! You may have to take one child and your spouse may have to take another, but when we did this, we were right in front of each other. Believe me, the airlines want you to be happy, and they will do the best they can.

If you buy your tickets directly at the airport (ahead of time, obviously), you can also avoid the "convenience fee" per ticket.

Finally, don't take luggage unless you really have to. Or maybe check in one or two bags AHEAD of time (it's cheaper that way).

We travelled Allegiant for the first time in October. It was the kids first flight! We scored $29 tickets, bought them at the airport, carried on our luggage, and it was great! We are 12 hours away, too, and the cheap way was the only way we could have afforded to fly. It was awesome and I can't say enough great things about it!

Good luck!

We have Allegiant here in South Bend, IN but all those fees are so frustrating we drive to Chicago to take Southwest. It's really to bad they have gotten so ridiculous.

We usually fly my MIL out of South Bend using allegiant. Last time we thought we were getting a great deal until we realized that we had to pay extra for her bags. Maybe next time we can convince her to do carry on only.

i have done my research extensively...firstly, do not book on line or via phone if you do not have to. if you purchase the airfare at the airport counter directly, you will not incur the $14.00 fee per passanger along with the $10.00 booking fee per passenger. you would just pay the taxes. i have done this at least 5 times. we usually fly out of youngstown, oh. i was actually thinking about booking for january...but my hubby wants to drive 18 hrs...is he crazy:confused3 anyways, if you are checking bags, definately purchase at time of ticket purchase bc it is definately more at flight time. we usually take 3 good size carry ons (me, dh, ds (4)) and one checked bag. that helps a little. hope this helps!!

I didn't know they were flying into MCO now!! :banana:Ours always went to Sanford only. This is great, next time we can use Disney's transportation instead of having to rent a car!

This is really great and helpful info...so Saturday, when DH and I go Christmas shopping, if we swing by the airport and go ahead and book our tix we can get the great price while avoiding most of those fees?! And I just simply say that we will have 2 checked bags and then I pay right then- up front? Sorry to be so slow on this, but we have only ever flown Delta which is an arm and leg so it's not very frequent...I'm out of practice...

Should I call the airport first and confirm the fares? It's a good 1.5 hours from here and 45 min from where we need to be shopping--but still work the effort for $100-150 savings.

You could check their website for pricing and flight times. Make sure you know what times that they staff at the airport, they have very limited hours.

On the website for our area the tix are $44.44 each way...I guess I just wondered if they honored the web prices or if when I got there they would try to quote something else...

each time that we purchased our fares at the ticket counter, the fare was the same as the advertised online price. you can try to call, but i know that our ticketing counter does not take calls. they give you the corporate number on the voice mail. i know that our ticketing counter hours are from 11-2.30pm mon - fri, but i agree that you might want to call and double check so that you do not make a trip and no one is there.

i have never paid for seats or the priority boarding and my family and i have always been seated together. we usually try to arrive a little early to the airport and that has worked in the past. i say save the money!!

Feb 8th, no more Sanford from Allentown. We got an email telling us we were now in MCO. This was great, we were flying into MCO and out of Sanford. Our rental car just got cheaper!

Unfortunately no airline will guarantee a family seats together unless they pay for them. They will not make people who paid for their seats move to accomodate others who did not pay for their seats. You may get lucky and have seats together, but you may not. But if you choose to not pay for seats you are taking a chance on your family not being seated together.
