Has anyone ever flown Allegiant from Bangor to I guess it's Sandford (Orlando)?? How was your experience, I see that you have to pay for checked bags. Welcome any comments or suggestions.

Thanks,

Wendy

I've been doing some research, and what I have heard is that the service is fine, but the downside is the flight does not land at MCO so you can't get the Magical Express. I saw a rate quoted on here yesterday of $200US one way from Sanford to WDW for a shuttle.

If I had a choice personally, and the difference wasn't too great, I think I would fly another airline out of Bangor. Which is what I think I will try to do - flights are craxy from Halifax!!

Another really good option is to drive Portland. It's only an additional 2 hour drive and you can get direct, non-stop, flights to MCO. Very cheap airfare too, we paid $89 each way per person. They do charge for checked bags though, and seat selection too. But they also have very liberal allowance for carry on baggage.

Some hotels offer free park and fly and free shuttle to/from the Portland Jetport with one night's accommodation. We stayed at Howard Johnsons, North of the Jetport. Room was $89 for one night, but we got a credit of $20 because our room had a leak in the ceiling.

We are flying Allegiant Air at the end of the month and I have been talking to several people on Dis that said it was great...All flights are direct and landing in Sanford isn't a big deal to us because we are staying in Windsor Hills and are renting a vehicle anyway. I have had many people tell me they prefer to fly into Sanford because it is very small and easy to navigate. When I get back I will post on our experience with them. I also like saving 2 hrs of driving time as opposed to driving the extra distance to Portland.

Thanks Caintwait, I will be looking forward to your trip report. We flew out of Portland last summer and didn't exactly like the times we flew and I too don't mind landing in Sandford, we have landed in St. Pete's before and didn't even mind that. As long as we can get a decent fare to Florida when you land I couldn't care less if I have to drive and hour to get to where we are going. Flying out of Halifax is basically out of the question even on the American carriers its still pricey. We have a 3 hour drive :yay:to get to Halifax anyway so we have to basically get there a day before we fly. Driving to Bangor we just leave earlier and make it part of the trip. Saving a few hundred dollars and direct flights make it worth the drive to us.

Have fun in Florida and let us know how the flight is and how much it costs for your luggage,

Wendy

We always fly from Bangor, usually on Delta. This year we got 4 return flights for $800, taxes included. Halifax and Moncton were well over $2000.

I've never given any thought to Portland mainly because the trip with kids will be great GOING to Portland, but not so great on the ride home!:rotfl:

Those extra 2-3 hours to Portland mean a lot when you and the kids are tired. I just want to get home as fast as I can when I get off the plane.
