Allegiant airlines-thoughts?

This just happened. People on the plane said they never offered food or water and weren’t allowed off. Even had to call 911.

That's terrible! That's one of my biggest fears about flying (besides from crashing). I didn't think it was even legal to allow people to sit on the runway for more than 3 hours (and even that would be way too long). And to not offer them food or water 😨

At the same time, this isn't exclusive to the ULCCs. I still remember a notorious incident at DTW many years ago where a Northwest plane sat around for hours due to some snow situation or lack of gates or some rubbish. Memory has faded on the specifics, but I think someone tried to force the rear door and jump onto the taxiway and ended up getting arrested.

The thing that concerns me is they only fly 2 or 3 days a week out of my airport (PIT) and only 1 per day each way . So if it is cancelled, you are stuck.

I have given these flights some consideration in the past. Spirit and Frontier have service from DTW, and I think Allegiant goes to Orlando/Sanford from FNT and possibly TOL as well. But as the thread has already observed, you are essentially gambling your entire holiday on the one daily flight that these carriers offer. If it was a super-amazing deal, I might do it, but they almost never measure up to Southwest when all is said and done.

It's not. Well technically it's against federal regulations, not federal law, but most people use those terms interchangeably. After three hours they are required to go back to the gate and allow anyone off the plane that wants off. They will get a big fine from the DOT. Don't think any of that will filter down to the people that were actually affected though.
