Has anyone flown Allegiant Air? I have been looking into their flights but they seemed too cheap to be true. I noticed they tack on some extra fees at the end but didn't know if there was a way to get around them.

We have used Allegiant Air a few times and have gotten some really great rates.

You can avoid all those fees at the end-be careful to check the right boxes. We buy tickets directly from the airport counter to avoid that charge-be sure to check what times they are open as the hours can be very limited.

I've flown Allegiant many times.... I've gotten rates as low as $39 a few times. It's been over a year now, but I do seem to remember a lot of extra booking fees.... even still, it was cheaper for me. And remember, if you're looking into flying to Disney World, Allegiant doesn't fly into the main Orlando airport, it's Orlando-Sanford.

I usually fly Allegiant to go to LA, it is super cheap. Usually right at boarding they offer free bag check because they have too many bags to put in the overhead bins. LOL

I would fly to Orlando in a second, but from our area they only go to Vegas and LA

So, if I go to the airport and buy the tickets I will not have as many fees?

Allegiant offers discounted fares but then makes their money off of the fees. They charge for a seat assignment, they charge per bag, they charge $15/person to book over the internet. Once on board, they don't offer free drinks but charge for drinks and snacks, etc.

You can get around most of the fees. The $15 charge to book over the internet can be waived if you book at one of their counters in the airport. You can decline to purchase a seat assignment. However, if you have a child, there is no way to guarantee you'll be seated together. They board in order of first boarding those with a seat assignment. Then, they do general boarding. The earlier you check in, the lower the number you will be given for general boarding. They generally board 1-25 and then 26-50. Then they alllow all people with children 8 or younger to board the plane, regardless of boarding number, so they can attempt to sit together. Depending on how many preassigned seats were sold, you may sit together, you may not. After that, they board the rest of the plane based on boarding number again.

You can also get around paying for luggage if you only bring a carry-on but be warned they are VERY strict with the size. If your bag is too big they will make you check it and it costs more to check it at the gate than to pre-pay to check it. Also be aware they almost always run out of overhead bin space, so if you have a late boarding number, you may have to check your bag anyways (but they don't charge you if they run out of space.)

They are a smaller airline and their seats and space feel the smallest to me out of any airline, so because of this, we will only fly them for short flights. I couldn't imagine taking a long flight with them, but this is just my opinion.

We've gotten fares as low as $19 one way on Allegiant. They have fees for everything, most of them you can un-check online to not have those services (seat assignment, insurance, etc.) You can save the $15 per ticket by buying the tickets at the airport, but be sure to call ahead. Allegiant only flies out of our local airport 3 days a week, and they are only at the counter 2 hours prior to a flight.

They are a budget airline with budget prices. You get what you pay for. If you want pillows, beverages & snacks, you won't get that with Allegiant. Our staff was less than stellar on our last Allegiant flight, but for $19 I'd fly them again in a heartbeat. That is, when they used to fly into MCO direct from our local airport. Now they only fly into Orlando Sanford, so we most likely have no use for them in the future.
