Just wondering if anyone has flown through Allegiant Air before? They are offering $39 one way flights from Kinston, NC which is not far from where we live but you have to fly on either a Fri or a Mon and they only fly into Sanford, not MCO. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this service. TIA

I haven't flown them to Sanford, but they used to go from Fayetteville to Las Vegas. I'm taking the flight out of Kinston from Mon. to Mon in July for our Disney trip! The only down side is the hidden costs. You have to pay $4 per checked bag and $11 each way if you want to choose your own seats. I generally skip that. With kids in tow, I have found that people will move so that they don't have to sit next to an unattended child!
Food and drinks on the flight cost extra too, but the flight is only an hour, so I think I can do without...

We flew them about 2 years ago from NH to Sanford, it was fine. No frills, you have to pay for drinks, etc., but for the price, who cares? The flight coming home was a little late, but it wasn't a big problem. Sanford was a great airport, really small, I think it took about an hour to get to WDW. We rented a car and got just as good a rate there as we would have at MCO. Overall, I would fly them again if I can get a good rate again.

Thanks for posting. I'm still thinking of waiting to see what the SW rates are going to be when they come out in June and then make a decision. I just wanted to get some opinions from people who have experienced Allegiant Air. Thanks again and any one else is welcome to post!

Oh, kathmzh...you stated about an hour to WDW from Sanford Airport, but how far is Port Canaveral from Sanford Airport?

Also, parking at the Kinston airport is free! We're going to WDW in July and will be flying on Allegiant.

Sanford is about an hours drive to the port. Are you cruising? Have a great time.......we did the 7 day western last spring. What a fantastic trip!!

We are cruising for the 1st time, leaving on Nov. 25th for the 4 day on the Wonder, then going to WDW for MVMCP also a first. Very excited!! Thanks for the information!! We're hoping to rent a car when we land to drive to the Port. What rental car places are in Sanford?

We're flying into Sanford on June 13th (Allegiant Air). We're renting from Dollar. Midsize for $493.00. It was slightly cheaper than Alamo at the time. I keep checking car rentals for changes, and Alamo just sky-rocketed! It's almost $300 more than my last quote using the same codes (I'm renting for 3 weeks). Yikes.

Oh.. here are the transportation options for Sanford, I'd go to their websites:

Hey Ashef! When in July are you flying into Sanford. We are arriving on the
9th, leaving on the 16th. It would be good to bump into another TarHeel on our travels!

Almost all the "biggies" are located inside the terminal with cars within easy walking distance. Very handy. Be sure to bring change for the toll roads. And be prepared for the beatiful sight of the Magic/Wonder when you come over the hill at the port! Brought me to tears!

We're flying Allegiant for the first time in October from Springfield, MO to Sanford. $89 each way. That's a LOT cheaper than any other airline around here (our closest SW is out of Tulsa - too far). I'm tickled pink!

We got a minivan from Dollar for $199/wk (KISS code). Also a fairly good rate. I'm not complaining.

We leave Sunday flying Allegiant! $39 one way! The same ticket today is $179, but the plane is full. I really excited:banana:

Mcgypsy, we're going on July 23 and returning on the 30th. So sorry we won't be flying when you do! Our flights are $39 each way, I am thrilled to say.

We love Allegiant. And their prices cannot be beat. We are flying from Allentown to Sanford in September. Booked our flights for 59 bucks each way. WOO HOO!

One other thing about Allegiant.. We have ALWAYS landed EARLY! Imagine that.... an Airline that actually leaves on time and always lands early! LOL

If you need transportation, we always use ED from Taxi-Mco. He posts here on the Dis as EDD, but never mentions he is a driver. We love him. He uses a super comfy Chevy Suburban and his pricing cannot be beat. Less than many of the companies that use towncars.

If you have flown to MCO, you will absolutley LOVE flying to Sanford. Its so much smaller, quicker, easier to navigate. In and out in a flash. We can not imagine flying between Philly and Orlando ever again after experiencing Allentown-Sanford. Now lets just hope Allegiant sticks around for awhile.:thumbsup2

We used Allegiant in February for a short trip - and are using them again June 7 for whole family. We are renting a mini-van. Air and rental is still cheaper for us than Delta to MCO. The drive on 417 is good - not as busy as I-4. Like others say, don't forget the change for the toll booths. Sanford really is nice, clean, and small - nothing like MCO.

We flew out of Sanford today with Allegiant air. Both the trip from SC and the trip back were great. We paid 39 each way and even with the extra fees 3 of us and a lap baby the total was 300. We rented a car from dollar and got an intermediate for 175. Very quick service to get in the car and on the road to disney. Very easy to get to the toll road and from there it is a straight shot to Disney.

We stayed last night at Courtyard Marriott in Lake Mary so we could sleep in this morning and not have to drive before the flight. Got the hotel on priceline for 60 and it was terrific!

I would definitely fly Allegiant air again any time!!

Just curious but are the planes those little commuter plains or are they jets? A few years ago we flew Delta and on our flight home we flew on this little commuter like plain which probably holds about 35 people or less and it was terrible. My DH said he would never fly like that again!!

I believe all of the planes used by Allegiant are jets. They use MD-80's. I know the flight we had between Knoxville & Clearwater were Md-80's. 2 on one side of the aisle and 3 on the other. It had leather seats. Overall it was a very good flight. We will fly them again. The drive from St. Pete/Clearwater airport to Disney was a very easy drive.
