Allegiant Air credit vs debit

I just went to Allegiant Air website and now you get a reduce rate (not by much) if you pay with a debit card instead of a credit card. Wonder if this is the way all airlines will be going?

I would not pay for an airfare with a debit card. I live near a small airport where Direct Air flew out of, they went out of business a few months ago. Many of the people who paid by debit card didn't have the same protection as a credit card and didn't get their money back.

Totally agree with Disneyand Redsox---no way will I give them a debit.

And.....just so you know....I purchased tickets from them the exact day they switched over to this new debit savings----just a few days ago and.....they got ya on that one......it's not a savings---what they did was raise the price if you pay by credit card and are trying to make it look like you are getting a savings by using your debit.

I even had a conversation with one of their reps about this and she tried to convince me that I would be saving money.....except.... she didn't know that I had been on the website the night before and days before they changed over to this new way of trying to get more of your money.......and I told her I knew exactly what they were trying to do.

I had been pricing out our tickets and waited one night too long----went in the next morning to purchase tickets and lo and behold we have a new way to pay:mad:----I had it figured out though because I had the prices written down for our flights and before they changed everything over there was only one price for the tickets and now they have this new system of two different prices

----I was really mad because they had just lowered the fare a little so I had decided to jump on the tickets by the next day and when I did I found the nice little surprise of them getting more money out of me because I would only use a credit card---it definitely took away some of the savings I was going to get on the lower fare-----just another way for them to make things look great in your eyes-----I did complain to the rep about this and told her that I already had a quote without this new debit fee and that I wanted them to honor that same price with my credit card and she wouldn't budge-----I told her I had it figured out what they were doing and she still tried to get me to believe that I would be saving money:rotfl:

I had also read here that their customer service is bad and I can say I did experience that ---they have no 800 number but they do have a Chat--but it's totally useless because they will tell you that what you are asking is not a general question and refer you to call the long distance number------I went through all of this after being on hold with the number for over 25 minutes

Lets just hope the flight will be better than the service I got over the phone

and...if anyone knows their record of keeping or cancelling their flights I would love to know because after all this I am now worried they will possibly cancel the flight that we are on because there are hardly any seats purchased yet and this is for a October flight and out of a smaller airport that they only have one flight a day-----Hopefully it will be fine but I can say I am a little nervous on this one----just glad we aren't flying them home.

you can also save yourself $20 per person on roundtrip flights if you book at the counter instead of online/over he phone... My $40 bucks saved will pay for my check bags..... Also I flew with them in March/April when my mom had surgery and I didnt have to pay for a carry on.. well now you do.. You are allowed one personal bag (that MUST fit underneath the seat)if you put it in the overhead they will charge you..(found that out two weeks ago)... But I had to change my flight 3 times with mom (thank goodness I purchased flight insurance) and I had no problem with the customer service (yeah the hold time sucked but once I got a live person it was fine)... I've only flown with them the one time and but didnt have any issues with flights.. Flying again in 10 days....so far so good (plus they have only one flight going and coming per day here)

I read just a couple of days ago that businesses will now be able to charge extra to people who use credit cards. This is a new rule (law?) because the Visa/Mastercard companies had been sued by retailers over their fees. I would guess you will see more and more companies that either charge extra for using a credit card or "discount" to people paying with cash or debit cards.

As I said before.....there is no discount for using your debit.....that's what they want you to think. The day they switched over to the supposed debit card savings.......the fare I was booking.......the new debit card price was the same price my fare would have been the night before when they only had one price. They actually added more on to pay by credit card the next day therefore penalizing you for paying with credit and or giving you the regular fare if you pay by debit. There is definitely no savings with debit and never mind the nightmare you might have if you paid that way and they went out of business. You would never get anything back:sad2:
