Ever since I've had my kids I get motion sickness on rides. I've rode roller coasters all my life no problem up until kids, I always got sick on rides that went round and round, that's why I stuck with coasters. Anyway I know I'll get sick on all the simulator rides and the coasters but I don't want to ruin our trip. I was going to have my doctor write me a prescription for those patches you wear on a cruise (that I have worn on cruises and worked for me), anyone else do this at Disney and how does it work for you? TIA

I can't do simulators. I don't have a problem w/ coasters. I just avoid the simulators. I would ask your doctor what they recommend.

My doctor recommended Dramamine! I've taken that before on plane trips and puked my brains out. Never heard of Gravol pills before.

Another good thing to try is the pressure bands. I don't know the name of them, but there sold right by the dramamine. They work and don't have any side effects.

Nope tried those too on a plane trip to Boston last year, got sick on the way out. So took Dramamine on the way back got just as sick. Dang I really wanted to know if anyone wore the patches. I had to lie to my doctor about going on a cruise to get them, you think I was asking for a strong narcotic or something. But my husband said he read somewhere that people do get them for the rides at Disney. Which I'm sure are nothing compared to the coasters at Cedar Point by us.

Marezine works very well and does not seem to make one drowsy like Dramamine. Over the counter but may have to order it. We no longer use the Dramamine because it zonks us, but the Marezine is great.

Gravol is the Canadian version of Dramamine. I was there once trying to buy Dramamine and the pharmacy finally understood what I needed and gave me the Gravol. I don't believe it is sold in US under that name.

ps. Pressure bracelets didn't work for me. But while pregnant doctor suggested one of the B vitamins on a daily basis and that did relieve some of the yuks.

pss. I haven't done MTM, but Disney rides are very very mild compared to amusement park thrill rides. I even survived the teacups (drug free) and I have vertigo.

Make sure you get the non drowsy form of Dramamine--I think it is called Dramimine II, or there is also Bonine--same thing.

You might try taking it one day before you go, so you will know if it will affect you. It won't do anything bad to you if you take it on just a normal day to make sure you don't have any unexpected side affects (like puking, or being to sleepy to walk straight!)

I have SEVERE motion sickness and have for as long as I can remember. With Dramimine II I can ride everything but things that spin (teacups, carousel, Primeval Whirl ect...). I haven't done ToT or MS, but that is only because I am not a huge thrill ride person so have no interest, motion sickness or not. Without the meds though I wouldn't even be able to do It's a Small World or Pooh. Heck, the bus ride from the resort to the park would have me  !

Ok Lovetoscrap you sound like me, I'll try your advice. I was going to get the Bonine for my 7 yr old. She gets car sick and we're driving. I just hate like heck to get sick and stuck on a bench somewhere for 3 hours while my family goes around and does everything without me. Thanks

Nothing works for me. I tried the patch and other things. I still got queasy. The patch worked great on the DCL, but not on Space Mt. I just can't spin, whether it's Mission:Space or Cinderella's Carousel.

the patch worked great for me and nothing else has. I avoided the teacups and mission space but rode everything else but the biggest coasters (dd is to short). The only problem I had was with the motion simulators. I just avoided them after I realized, the hard way of course, that I still had a problem with them.

husband usually used bonine but didn't this time and had no problem on anything but MS>>>about tossed his cookies...even primeval whirl he was fine on, did not do the teacups. he usually gets sick on any spinning type ride, coasters have never been a problem. he had a problem last time with star tours but this time he was ok ( ms must of used up all his "barf quota" for the trip:))

I tried the SeaBands once and I couldn't stand having them on my wrist, I felt constricted because they are made tight enough to apply pressure to your "pressure points".

I suppose they kinda worked since I didn't actually get sick on Space Mountain, although I didn't really enjoy the ride much.

I usually use Dramamine and that works for me although I generally don't do big coasters or spinning rides. I still get drowsy with the "non-drowsy" Dramamine. I've used the patch on cruises and that always works great!

I'm lucky, I've always gotten car sick & I have "motion sickness" .. but somehow, I never have problems @ Disney / Universal except with Shrek 4D halfway through the show .. I feel for you though

another thread that was on motion sickness -- something about motion sickness miracle (seach should reveal it!!) called for you to get the 24 hr Dramamine or Bonine, and take it the night before, that way when you woke up it was in your system...

I've gotten so much worse that I'm taking the patch, I dont think I can make the plane ride!! (scopalmine patch?)

I got the patch a number of years ago, afraid I would get sick on a cruise. The pharmacy forgot to remove the insert made for the physician (not the patient). I read it, and was more afraid of the patch than the ship!

I have not tried them, but read a rave review on another board about something called "reliefband". It goes on your wrist like the pressure bands, but used very mild electric stimulus instead of pressure. If you google the name, they have a website.

I've tried Dramamine and Sea Bands and niether worked for me. Then I tired the patch and it worked like a champ. I was able to do MS and RnRc without any problems! Very few side effects either. There are still a few thinks I won't do like the teacups and Primeval Hurl, but I can live with that.

The other thread does mention a side effect of the patch that has to do with blurred vision. You evidently have to be very careful not to touch your eyes after handling the patch. I have tried the SeaBands for morning sickness and they are so uncomfortably tight that I couldn't wear them. I used Bomine on a cruise and it seems to work really well. Good luck.

I used to buy Bonine, but the active ingredient is Meclizine, which you can purchase from the pharmacist without a prescription for much less.
