All star vs. Yacht club

Since you can afford it, great choice! Enjoy your trip.
Agree! YC is not only (IMO) hands down a better resort than any value, it is a fabulous and in a fabulous location. YC has bigger rooms and bigger beds than values (which are really basic rooms), a coffee maker, daybeds usually, and a full balcony. It also has interior hallways (which are important for many guests who chose deluxe resorts). Great gift shop. LOADS of TS dining within walking distance at at both YC and BC, the Boardwalk area including Swolfin hotels, and at Epcot and DHS. One of the best pools on property (especially for teen boys, IMO). Entertainment around the boardwalk, especially at night.

If you have park hoppers, it's really easy to spend a lot of the day at one park, then have a few hours lazing about the resort...at the pool, walking around the boardwalk, on the balcony with a drink...and then skipping over to Epcot for dinner around the world at night. YC and BC are especially wonderful places to stay when you've had a busy day and can walk back to your room in 10 minutes after Illuminations...that is a huge perk! And with older kids, I think they might enjoy hanging out at the YC/BC/Boardwalk area much more than they would at a value.

I think it's a great choice. I hope you all have a ton of fun!

Yacht club is awesome although I'm not convinced it's worth the price. Over the Dec holiday, we started at ASMu and ended up switching over to YC for the last 2 nights. What I figured out is that for us, staying in a value early in the trip works well since we are spending so much time in the parks, so the hotel amenities go largely unused (and the savings helps offset TS and snacks). But then toward the end of the trip it's really relaxing to upgrade and chill by the pool, going into the parks just to repeat our favorite rides with fast passes. So if you are trying to balance enjoyment and saving some money, I would suggest considering a split stay, with 2-3 nights at YC.

I believe that Yacht Club is undergoing renovations now. Be sure to ask for a refurbished room. The pool there is really neat and the location can't be beat. I stayed there last fall with three college age girls for Food & Wine. First time since my girls were little.

My teen son loved it when we stayed at the BC. He loved SAB and walking to Epcot. He would stay in the pool for hours on end.

If 2K isn't breaking the bank I would definitely go for it.
