My friends are going down to WDW for a once in a lifetime trip with their two sons: age 11, age 7. They are going to split their stay at the All Star Sports and the Wilderness Cabins.

I've never stayed at either but I'd love to get them some tips for their stay since it is something they've saved for for so long...

Anyone have any tips?

I stayed many years at Ft Wilderness and the one thing that we found made our stay nice was the golf carts. We always set aside the money for this. Ft Wilderness is a big place all by itself and as soon as we got there we'd go and rent a cart for the duration of our stay. You can call ahead and reserve one prior to your arrival. I believe you can just call the bike barn at FtW. You can drive to some places in the campground with you car but the golf carts are able to get to a few more places like the pools and Pioneer Hall. To drive around the campground at night was very relaxing and romantic not to mention that at the end of the day the busses can be VERY crowded and never seem to come fast enough if your golf cart is waiting for you off you go....the downside is if you get behind a bus the fumes are terrible. A word of caution here is that no matter how tempting or how much they want to the golf cart is to driven by a licensed driver not your kids. Over the many years we stayed there we saw many accidents caused by kids driving the carts because as a CM told us the parents don't see the harm because it's not really a car.Well it hurts everybody when that happens because according to this CM the rental goes up or they could decide not to rent them at all which hurts the people that play by the rules most of all...Sorry on a soapbox... You also have the option to grill out there too which was nice. Ft WIlderness is a very peaceful relaxing place I'd love to be able to afford to stay there again. :Pinkbounc

We took our boys there when they were the same age as yours and they loved it!! Definately call the bike barn and put a reservation in for the golf carts - the kids love it - plus it' better than walking everywhere. You can plug them in at any location.
They go fast so reserve early. If your kids enjoy the outdoors this is a great place to stay. Boat ride to the MK is a nice convenience.
