All-Star Sports or Art of Animation

I'm currently booked for 3 nights at All-Star Sports in May. We stayed there back in January, and while it was fine, it's easily at the bottom of my list as to all of the Disney resorts I've stayed at. For the same weekend, I'm pulling up the Little Mermaid rooms at AoA for more than double what I'm paying for All-Star. Wondering if it's worth switching. I've never stayed at AoA, so I'm torn if it's worth the money.

It all comes down to what you are willing to pay. There are other rooms/resorts at Disney that are more than double the Little Mermaid rooms. Do you have young children who would enjoy the themeing? These rooms at AoA are quite far away from the food court/busses whereas even standard rooms at Sports are quite close. It is a very nicely themed resort and you will have use of the Skyliner as well as a quick walk away from Pop. Their food court has real dishes/utensils and interesting choices. Keep in mind that because of the Skyliner they have reduced the number of busses to HS and Epcot. I think down to one every hour per park. We have stayed at Music twice and are staying at Sports this month. I got a great rate through a third party for a preferred and the older style rooms don't really bother us. I think the All Stars give great value for being onsite with all the benefits. Enjoy your vacation whatever you decide.

I wouldn't pay double. I didn't realize they had gotten so expensive.
We did stay there once. We enjoyed it. Older child was very into Ariel at that time, so it was something we wanted to do for her. The resort is themed so well. Having said that, we likely won't stay there again. We would rather pay less and have more park time.

Is there any availability at any of the other All-Star resorts? I would pick them over either of your choices in a heartbeat. All-Star Movies was just renovated and now has 2 queen size beds in the room and All-Star Music renovations are in progress so there's a chance of getting lucky and getting a new room there.

Unfortunately no. We stayed at Movies last year and loved it. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We got such a low-rate for Sports through a CM discount. Unfortunately nothing else is available using that promotion on our dates so that's why there would be such a price difference.

Thanks - this is helpful! We just felt like Sports was dingy when we stayed there in January. I'm sure it'll be great when refurbished, but we didn't use the food court or pools because we were focused on being in the parks. The skyliner seems like a great option though, so that's one of our reasons for possibly changing.

Well I was going to say I'm not sure if it's worth double, but if you're going the first week in may steer clear because it'll be overrun by cheerleaders. Then I decided to take a look at the ESPN WWOS schedule, there is an event every weekend in May. It most definitely is worth double to avoid all the sports teams!

Some people tend to follow the "I only sleep there, so I don't really care" train of thought.. but I'm on the other end of the spectrum. Sure, I spend a lot of time outside of my room. But I still want the time I spend in my room and at my resort to be enjoyable. Personally, I'd pay double for AoA because I really do not like the All Start resorts - sports, least of all. I think AoA has such great character and a really unique feel. And the Skyliner is right there. Really, though, only you know how to value your dollars.

Thanks - that's a good perspective. I like the skyliner and haven't stayed at a resort with it yet, but the more I think about it, I'd rather put that extra money towards something like After Hours instead of a bed and shower.

I really hated how far the little mermaid rooms were from the bus stop. Farther than the farthest rooms at sports. But if you’re driving and not taking buses, that’s not likely to bother you. AofA has skyliner now, and I think that will be good. Skyliner station seems pretty close to the mermaid rooms, but I haven’t been there since it opened.

We have booked through Undercover Tourist, Orbitz and Travelocity. They have always been cheaper than Disney and Orbitz and Travelocity usually gives an additional 10% off. I fully agree that Sports needs an update asap and it's coming. But for us, even the cheapest onsite Disney hotel is much better than staying offsite. Of course, that may not be the case with everybody.

Def. not worth double in our opinion. Yes,the decor is nicer, you have access to the skyliner, but it's still a value and in no way worth anywhere close to double the cost. You'll also be in the rooms farthest away from main pool, food court and transportation. I don't love sports either, but it's not bad and again in the rooms you have the same basic room.
