I know there are some youth/cheer/dance activities that take place at WDW in January and the groups tend to stay at the values. I've searched and can't seem to find any info on dates these take place. Do y'all know if any groups will be there the week of Jan 20-24? I'm debating on upgrading to POFQ, but the $500 difference is hard to swallow.

College Cheerleading Championships are January 17/18/19 with All-Star Sports being their main Resort so your "timing" is right to miss the Cheerleaders. :)

Most will check out on the 20th,but a few will extend their stay for a few days to tour the Parks.

One caveat, after the Cheerleaders leave, there is always the chance a lot of 15s could arrive and "take their place".

We will be at Sports January 18-23 and have been there before during this Competiton and the Cheerleaders don't "bother" us,but that is us.

Here is what it looks like at Sports when the College Cheerleaders are there.:)

I don't think the college teams would be as "bad" as the high school teams. What do you mean by 15s? I'm a light sleeper and just don't want to be kept awake by loud noises. I love watching cheer/dance, but don't want to hear it when I'm trying to sleep :D

What do you mean by 15s?

The 15s are Tour Groups of South American girls celebrating their 15th Birthday.

They are FAMOUS for their matching Backpacks and shirts and for their LARGE numbers!

Most are given the choice of a LARGE party at home or a trip to WDW(some will also go to NYC and Miami and Bahamas)and,in addition to WDW,most will also go to Universal,Sea World,Busch Gardens, etc.

Some will also have Private Parties(some with South American entertainers)as well as Quinceanera celebrations in World ShowPlace.

The largest numbers,BY FAR,are from Brazil and Argentina with smaller numbers from Uruguay,Paraguay,Chile,Venezuela, etc.

It is VERY interesting when Brazil and Argentina encounter each other-they DO NOT like each other-mainly because of Soccer.

Their rivalry is like Alabama v. Auburn or Ohio State v. Michigan on STEROIDS!:)

The "main" months for the migration of The 15s are July for their Winter Break and January/February for their Summer Break.

The numbers in January/February are less than half of July numbers so I wouldn't worry too much about staying at Sports after the Cheerleaders leave.

I am very familiar with The 15s as we go every July for my Birthday and,for the most part, they are really nice young ladies, but they can get "out of hand" at times!lol:)

They now use Private Buses alot and that has helped greatly as has the introduction of the Super Greeters in the Summer.

I present to you the LEGENDARY PHENOMENON KNOWN AS THE 15s!lol:)

Ah, the "tour groups":D I've never heard them called the 15s so I was worried there was some other youth takeover LOL. Do you know if they all tend to stay in preferred rooms or not? I really don't want to upgrade, but I may use it as an excuse because POFQ is my favorite moderate resort.

We experienced them a couple of years ago at Pop and were surprised how little they bothered us there. They were much better than in the past. We did share the bus with them and their guide held them back so we could get on the bus first. They are a swarm! I suppose they will be at Sports when we are there Feb 3-5 for a quick cheap trip.

I've stayed at the All Stars when 15s were there and it was an absolute nightmare. I wouldn't stay there again if I knew they were going to be there. Might be worth the upgrade!

My opinion, FWIW:
If budget allowed, I would upgrade. I like my peace and quiet as well. POFQ is lovely and worth an extra $500, IMO.

They rarely are placed in Surf's Up! and if they do it is usually just one small group, but they are common in the other Preferred section-Touchdown!
