I posted this here instead of the transportation board because I thought I'd get a better response. I'll be staying at AS Music with my then 74 y/o mom in late Sept. She'll be renting a scooter from off site. I know people in scooters are boarded first and are guaranteed seats, but since All Star Sports is the first stop and most of the seats will probably be full, how does that work when a partially full bus arrives at another resort? When we stayed at CSR the bus driver made the people sitting in the handicapped area get up. We felt really funny about it, but didn't see another option. I know I'll probably have to stand on the way to the parks and that's fine, but there is no way my mom can do it. She can transfer and would prefer to sit in a seat, but could stay on her scooter if she had to (at least that way one less person might not have to give their seat up).

Anyway, does anyone with a scooter stay at AS Music and how does the seating work with trying to get on a bus that already has people on it? Thanks!

Several choices. One is to go at "off hours" (whatever they are). Another would be to go into the main building and ask to speak with a transportation coordinator and ask that person for assistance; special arrangement can be made.

The OP thoughts are correct. If the person boarding is handicapped, the driver will ask the people sitting in the handicap seats to move. If the handicapseats are already full with handicapped guests, then usually they driver will radio for another bus to come by.

However, the driver cannot force people to move from the seats; as far as I'm aware, if they refuse you can't get on (please correct me if I'm wrong on this).

If they refuse to move than the bus will have to leave without allowing any more passengers even if there are only one or two people on the whole bus.

----------------

Under ADA law All the buses need to handicapped accessible if there is room is to allow a WC/ECV on the bus ( meaning the bus is not complely full and the 2 spaces for a WC and/or EVC are not being used and a person or persons refuse to move to make the tie down area available the bus is then deemed unaccessible and the bus driver has to close the doors and continue on even there is only a few people on the bus.

Everyone who was waiting in the standby line then to wait for another bus along with the guest in the WC or EVC.

Most often the drivers are succesful in having the seated guests move.

I use an ECV and stay at All Star Music quite often.

In the mornings each resort usually has its own dedicated bus.

I think in my last 5 stays only once there was not room for me on the bus and the driver was kind to call ahead and another bus was there in just a couple of minutes.

---------------------------------------

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---POPbuses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----25 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----20 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------15 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------20 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot, MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING

To me Bus Sharing at the All Stars is really a non issue.

In the mornings during Park opening hours each All Star usually has a dedicated bus.
During mid day it is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes it is all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back. Each of the All Stars usually has it's own dedicated bus back from the MK.
That is a big plus. It seems like the Music bus stop usually has the shortest of the three All Star bus lines.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

::yes::
That is true. If there are more stops, the bus driver can pick up people at the next stop, but it is full for the stop where the person using a wheelchair wanted to get on.
Those seats are well marked so if someone chooses to sit in them, they do know there is a chance they will be asked to move.

I can just see it now. A couple people refuse to move from the marked HC seats (mind you they are marked because they fold up out of the way to make space for a wheelchair), the bus driver tells all the passengers he can't take anymore passengers, closes the door and drives away. The entire crowd then gives the evil eye to the churlish passengers who refuse to move and fantasize about their fitting revenge. :D

I've yet to see someone refuse to give up their seat. Usually the bus driver tells them in terms like "you must move for the wheelchair party" rather than a "will you move".

Whenever we stayed at the Music , sometimes two or three busses would pass before a wheelchair bus would come...and then when we got on first people who had just walked up would be frowning like we got first choice of everything. Geez  Well it was very crowded there whenever we stayed anyway
