We (DH, 12yo DD and myself) stayed at ASMO Dec 4-11. Having read comments from a number of different sources, I was to put it mildly aprehensive about the stay. To top it all off we would be there for pop warner. We thought about changing our booking but decided that with the airfare and costs of a six week hoiliday in America we would take our chances. I am really glad we did. We had a great stay, sure there were things that could have been better, but in the big picture it didn't really matter. Here are my observations:
Rooms: Small, but I have stayed in 5 stars that were no bigger. Decor -kitchy and definately disney, but hey isn't this all part of the experience. My 12yo loved it. Cleanliness- I'm pretty fussy but really couldn't find many faults. Rooms were cleaned every day and for the most part well. One day they missed spilled coffee on the sink area and one day the sheets on the bed were pulled up too high leaving the matress protector exposed.
Resort size: It is big and some of the rooms are quite a distance from the foodcourt, pool, buses etc. I can see where it could be an issue for some but it wasn't for us. We stayed in Building 7 (Love Bug) and we were quite happy to be away from the pool as I imagine it would be quite noisy at times.
Foodcourt It is what it is. You won't get fancy or fabulous meals but you can get something quick and relatively inexpensive. Variety is limited. My DD liked the spaghetti and meatballs and DH liked the taco salad. We didn't really experience the brealkfast rush that I've heard about as we only had evening meals there. However, it didn't seem too bad when we went there to pick up our morning coffee . The refillable mugs were great. We made good use of these. A few times the hot chocolate ran out (usually late night) and the coffee was not the best. With regard to crowds and noise in the food courts. We didn't encounter any problems. Tables were always clean and other than spilled coffee and people not putting sugar packs in the bins provided, the beverage area seemed well maintained. There always seemed to be someone cleaning.
Pool AreaWe didn't make use of the pools at all it was just too cold for us aussies. The fantasia pool was pretty busy and looked well maintained and clean. The Might Ducks didn't appear as busy but was also well maintained and clean. The little pool near the laundry for the little ones was also clean.
Laundry RoomWe used this a few times. Quite expensive $2.50 to wash and same to dry. Not the best machines as the clothes came out pretty wet most times. I think the powders were expensive, but I ordered laundry liquid in my grocery order so didn't have to buy any.
Gift ShopThe gift shop was quite large. It had a pretty good selection of souvenirs. There was a small supply of basic medicines such as cold tabs, headache tabs etc. You could also buy snacks like doughnuts to take to your room. There was a small selection of cold drinks including cold beer. I think we got a six pack for around 10.00. (I think a single was about 5.00 in the food court.)
Bus service No complaints here. We picked up our car halfway through our stay, just in case the bus service was too difficult. We ended up leaving it in the parking lot until the day we left. Yes we did have to wait in line for a bus, once or twice up to maybe 15-20 minutes. I think we were on last pick up to parks once the rest of the time we had our own bus or were the first pick up. We did have to stand once or twice, usually on park closure. When you consider the number of guests it was a pretty efficient service.
Customer ServiceNo complaints here. Room atttendants when encountered were pleasant and courteous. Check in was a breeze, no wait we just walked up to the desk. Cast member was polite and informative, verbal directions to our room were easy to follow. Parcel pick up was for us efficient and hassel free. Cast members all seemed pleasant and polite.
All in all for us the stay was a pleasant one. Despite my fear in the lead up to arrival everything went smooth. Value resorts may not be for everyone, but for us it was great. If we get the chance to go to WDW again we would consider staying there again. I certainly would not hesitate to reccommend the resort to family or friends.
