We usually stay at Riverside but are considering All Star Movies Resort as an attmept to stay on budget for an upcoming FL trip... We have heard several things, ranging from very bad to very good. Advice, opinions, suggestions, anything.... would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

Everyone is different, but I typically stay at a moderate, and I don't like the values at all. The rooms are smaller, they always seem more crowded, and I think the decor is horrible.

If you can, I would stick to POR.

Hi Theresa, and welcome to the DIS!

If you do a search you will find lots of threads on ASMV.

Enjoy!

We stayed there for 9 nights last fall, and we liked it. The room wasn't huge, but it wasn't a closet either, we had plenty of room....me, DH, DS3 and DS-15 months. The decor inside the room wasn't gaudy or anything terribly bright, the bedspreads were a little loud, but other than that it was fine. We didn't have any problems with the busses, we had one "long" wait, we waited 15-20 minutes for a bus to Epcot one morning; the rest of the time we didn't wait hardly at all. Of course, there are waits at park closing, but you get that with the moderates too, too many people going to the same place at the same time, it just happens. The food court was good, we didn't get anything that we didn't like there, except the pizza, and it wasn't bad, just not great either. We stayed in the Toy Story section and it was really cute. No slides at the pool, but you probably already know that.

HTH! Steph

We have stayed at ASMO 3x and ASSP once and enjoyed every visit there. I actually prefer the values to the moderate Ive stayed at.

We've stayed @ All Star Movies 3 times and we love the value resorts!!! That means more money to spend elsewhere. You can't beat the price. The only time we are in our rooms is to sleep and take a little break so the room size doesn't bother us. The decor is great especially if you have little ones. Of course, my husband and I loved it on our honeymoon!!! Try to stay in the toy story bldg. very close to the main pool and food court. Now, we stay @ Pop because we love it too!!! Have fun!!

We loved it on oour first trip.

I thought the theming was excellent especially for kids. Buses were very good and the rooms were rooms. They were your typical hotel room so they worked fine for us.

I say go for it.

ASMo is the best value resort IMHO. Theming is great with Toy Story and Herbie and the Fantasia Pool is the best pool at any value resort (even though there is no slide). Have a great trip !!! :earsboy:

we took our whole family there and six were adults and two were kids.....and we have gone as two adults alone there........and we love the whole place....especially the food court.......we were very happy with our stays...we even did a four night Christmas visit and loved it.

My Dh's parents took us while we were dating there along with his brother and his GF (my best friend). We had a blast. This was everyone's first time to Disney except for me. I went about 8 years before, but barely remember it. The food court was great for a quick breakfast before hitting the parks. Sometimes buses were crowded but never too bad. We were all just so happy to be in Disney World. We got to stay in the Toy Story building and had a great time. Also the Fantasia pool was wonderful. It was packed but you didn't feel like a sardine. you still had room to move. You'll have a great time.

We have stayed there 3 times...and mostly LOVED it! The theming is great...bus svc cannot be beat!!! They run more often and directly to the parks compared to most moderates. The food court (at all the values) offers a much greater variety and everything we've ever tried there has been hot, fresh and yummy. There is no slide in the pool but that didn't matter to us. The kids loved the squirting Fantasia Mickey. Yes, the rooms are smaller, but I have to say they accomodated 2 strollers and a fridge MUCH better than Wlodge did!!!! We were constantly tripping over the strollers in that room. Probably b/c the 2 beds were qn size and the bathroom area was much larger but there just wasn't as much walking room as at the values.

All those nice things being said...the last time we were there this past April check-in took 2 hours!!! (this was on a Tues afternoon) And the place became PACKED on Thurs - the weekend w/ highschool seniors arriving for Grad nights. They were very quiet around the resort but the pool was completely overtaken by them. Just too loud and wild to feel "safe" w/ our 2 young non-swimmers. (Yes they had water wings but the commotion was just waaaaaay too much. Kids jumping in fully clothed....volleyballs (not just beach balls) being bounced around your heads. The life guards on duty just couldn't rein them in....and this was on 3 different days!!!

So...for our next trip in Dec....which is during Pop Warner time...we are staying at POFQ. Our 1st time at a moderate. :goodvibes Hoping that works out better for us.

The Values and the Mods are not so different, IMO. Both rooms are the similar size, both rooms have double beds (unlike the queens at Deluxes), both have outdoor hallways, both are busy and have great swimming facilities, both have multiple bus stops within the resort, both have fast food courts. Honestly, if you're looking to save $$$ and are spending most of your time park hopping, I'd do AllStarMovies in a heartbeat!

Thank You Everyone!!! All the info if so helpful and I feel much better about my choice. Those of you who weren't too fond of ASMO, I appreciate your honesty. Looking forward to my trip regardless of where I stay!!! ;)

Trust me...try not to do it. Coming from a girl who has stayed in POFQ each time I"ve been to disney. We tried the ASmo in May and were very disappointed. It was awful. I won't go into details but basically..I waited FOREVER to check in.. it was VERY hot in the room..(and never cooled off) we had a "special needs" room. (which I feel so bad about..what if someone really needed that room and there we were in it and complaining about it) food court was too crowded...etc. It was a MUCH different feel than POFQ and for that reason I will NEVER stay at a value resort again.
Now..with that said..IF staying in a value resort is the only way you will get to go to disney then I say go for it. I would suggest staying in POP (I've heard GREAT things about it) and check in early (part of my problem was I checked in around 11pm) . Have a great vacation

My wife and I stayed there in 2001 and had a great time. The busses can get a little crowded and theirs no slide in the pool, but that's about it for the down side.

I would definitely go back to fit it into our budget. I stayed at the AKL last time and it was great, but that makes you want to spend more time at the resort/room then the parks so their is a give and take.

We stayed at the Toy Story building and I think young kids would love it with the huge characters and the in your face theming. Nothing subtle here which is fun.

My family and I stayed there last December and we loved it! The room was a bit small for the four of us (DD3,DH, MIL and myself) but we were only in it to sleep and shower and sometimes we would bring back food from the food court and eat. If you do stay there, I would suggest the Toy Story bldg. it was close to the food court and main lobby and since its not a preferred bld. we didn't have to pay extra.

Thanks for the welcome... I'm slowly figuring this thing out, so my replies are a bit tardy still!

I agree this will be my second stay at ASMo and while I would like to back to moderate I need to stick with ASMo for budgeting reasons. It would depend on what is more important to you, extra comforts and bigger rooms better bus service or having more spending money, since this is my second trip this year and a unexpected one at that, I just couldnt pass up the free dining I am just grateful to be going again besides we are barely in our room, we are gone from 7am until 10 or 11 pm and then we take a swim before showering and going to bed
