We have over 2 feet - had to share of few pix I took as dd#4 and I shoveled out.
They have already cancelled school for tomorrow - very rarely does this happen but I teach in a large city and since many of the kids walk to their neighborhood schools, side streets not plowed or shoveled can be dangerous.

Miss you
Jennifer

we didn't get that much and school is back on for us and work for me but Tom said this am he doesn't remember the last time he saw our towns so far behind on a storm. They weren't behind they couldn't keep up!!

Hey Jen - miss seeing you too! Can't fathom having a second day off, but a number of places around the area have already posted school closings for tomorrow too.

We got about 28". It took DH double the time it normally does to snowblow us out, and it was still snowing out.

DH doesn't have work tomorrow and I am trying to see if DD has school.

We have a delay, 90 minutes. If the driveway is bad in the morning I'm not bringing them. I went out for a bit today, the main road wasn't bad but the side roads were rough.

My driveway, not that you can find it.

DH did the driveway, but the sidewalks are not plowed. I'm so disgusted at the school system. No delay regular day. Morgan is technically a "walker" and we live on the busiest street in town with NO SIDEWALKS PLOWED! I don't know who to call and raise holy heck with.

Jennifer are the sidewalks the responsibility of the town or the residents?

Here(not my town because we don't have sidewalks) but typically in CT it's the responsibility of the resident or business to shovel from property line to property line.

If it's the towns job then I would start with your town hall. Yell at your Selectman/Mayor.

Sidewalks are the responsibility of the town AND residents. You have to make a "reasonable" effort to clean it, but with 2 feet of snow and no snowblower (that's going to be our next major purchase), and not one swipe of the sidewalk plow at all, DH could only deal with the driveway yesterday. I called and spoke to someone at the Highway Department - I was very respectful, didn't try to cause any trouble - they are very far behind (understandably) and expect to get through the sidewalks by tomorrow morning. I asked why school hadn't even been delayed and he said that first of all, it wouldn't have made any difference, there's just too much snow and they won't be done until tomorrow, and that the policy is "if the buses see a kid walking, they are to pick them up." Really? *That's* the policy? Not, if there's no sidewalks plowed, we'll use the reverse 911 and make certain bus stops for walkers? Unbelievable...I may need to call my "in" on the school committee about this.

Wow! We got about 8 inches here in SE Ohio, which is more than we usually get at one time. We're supposed to get more on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, but I really hope it misses us.

This is our second sn*w day in a row, and DS10 is sick today. I made it to work just fine but he wanted to come home from grandma's, and he wanted me, so here I am. I'm hoping they go back to school tomorrow, but I know the secondary roads are still horrible. FIL brought DS home because there was little chance I'd make it out there.

Thanks for posting this, I try to take a picture of our house every time we get a decent amount of snow, and I had forgotten until now.

Steph

yes you definitely need to call your "in" at school! Those kids should not be made to walk!

We had a delay but should not have had school. The buses got stuck at the high school so our buses were extremely late. So the drivers were blowing past houses if the kids wasn't standing right there. Well all the parents had the kids standing back from the roads because it was icy and didn't want to kids to get hit if a car slid by.
I would not want to be the principal today, I'm sure she is fielding a lot of angry calls today.

That is our issue here.. if you aren't right at the stop the driver's blow past.. however my driver does not.. he did that once. That was a year ago.. my son was on the porch... 30-40 feet from the frickin' stop!! (which is at our driveway) HELLO!!!!. I met him at school and told his boss and him..that in this type of weather my son will come out for the bus if he rounds the corner.. he needs to stop regardless.... if the house light isn't on..then don't stop! For gosh sakes!

It's funny because to this day he stops regardless and waits for us to motion him on... usually DH is out at his car so he just waves him on if there is an issue... DS came home yesterday and said that the bus driver was taking kids names down on a paper for not wearing coats in this weather.. He also told all the kids that their hats need to be on their heads and gloves on their hands or their hands in their pockets that is was too cold out there to pretend it was summer!

Here the rule is that it is the property or business owners responsibility to shovel the walkways... we shovel our little one in front of our porch but we also make a small path for our post man in our yard... not that anyone else does... but we try to make his walk a little safer...

Crazy pictures! We didn't get hit as bad as you all. I think about 18-20 inches but I didn't hear for sure the total for our town. Luckily DH was off and spent literally the entire day out there snowblowing. He loves it, God bless him. He's like a little boy with his favorite toy. Kids had yesterday and today off. It stopped about 5 pm yesterday but clearly they needed to clean up and dig out this morning and even at this time of day some side streets are not well-plowed. I'm amazed that those of you who got more than we did had school today. Bad call! What's an extra day in June compared to safety!
