I saw a threat that suggested that there may be more rooms opening soon at Kidani - as though they're not all in inventory yet. Anybody know for sure - are all of the rooms being booked, or are some not available yet?
Rooms don't become available to be booked until they get declared in to the DVC member inventory.
The way this happens is: DVC will declare a small portion of rooms in to inventory. They will then sell all the points that those rooms represent. Then they will declare more rooms... etc.
Any rooms not declared in to inventory are given to CRO for cash reservations and aren't available for members to book with points.
As far as rooms actually being open for use, on May 1 much of the resort will be but a significant portion of rooms in the northern wing (toward the not yet finished northern savanna, Pembe) are not supposed to open for use until September.
As to DVC available rooms, the way it actually works is -- They declare units (groups of rooms) into DVC for sale in phases. As more sell, more are added. That does not determine which room you can get, which is any open room in the resort regardless of whether it is declared into the DVC system. What it determines is percent of DVC reserve time available to members, for example if they have sold 30% of the resort, then DVC members can reserve 30% of all time available (e.g., 30% of the rooms per day) and Disney gets to rent the rest.
So, if I have a waitlist for Kidani DVC right now for late June/early July will there possibly be more rooms put into inventory so that waitlist is honored??

How does this equation factor into resorts that are 100% sold (e.g. Old Key West)? There have certainly been instances where there is no DVC availability for the dates I have requested yet there are rooms available to the general public to rent online for those same dates. Perhaps there is another factor involved (i.e. whether a trade was through RCI or something). Can you clarify?

While considered fully sold, DVC does have points available for sale at OKW that they have acquired through ROFR and/or mortgage or dues defaults. Whatever that percentage is, those rooms are not available to point reservation to members. They also retain an ownership of points in all resorts for use to take rooms out of service for maintenance. If maintenance isn't needed, those rooms become available for cash through CRO. And likely the biggest reason cash rooms are available when point reservation are not is because when a member traded to a non-DVC and non-RCI location, such as a cruise, Disneyland Resort, Adventures by Disney, etc. those rooms are also turned over for cash to recoup the cost of the trade. Finally, any DVC inventory room not reserved on points at 60 days is turned over to cash reservations (breakage inventory)..while likely a very small percentage of cash rooms is breakage inventory, they can be reclaimed by MS for use on points if they haven't been reserved for cash, the others can not.
The ROFR rooms can be used in any way DVD wishes. They are the source for promotional developers points, awards and prizes, cash reservations, etc.
As noted, no resort is ever actually 100% sold -- Disney retains a 2% to 4% interest in every unit in a resort that never gets sold and it can rent that protion. Also, as noted it gets rooms to rent by members trading out and has control over any it has repurchased through ROFR or through foreclosure.
Sorry...I meant when it opens on May 1st...Just wondering what part is open than..we are checking in on May 17th and wondering what was going to be open.

I would think that all of the rooms except for those on the Pembe Savanna should be open. The Pembe Savanna is the part of the resort that is the furthest away from Jambo House and is scheduled to open 9/1.
We are staying at Kidani Village the last week of November -- got our confirmation today!! WooHoo My question is, since we've never stayed here before can we A) use the new online check-in system B) if not, where do we check in, the main lobby or at Kidani C) how close are the bus stops to the village D) what does a 2 bedroom villa look like??
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! TIA
