We were thinking of going on a cruise but when I looked into it I found that we could go to cancun or DR for 1800.00 for four nights and five days with air fare, That price is for three people all meals and unlimited drinks watersports and a host of other things with an ocean room. now I know that with a cruise you get to go to different ports but we live in miami so going to nassu is no big deal because we can take a ferry there anytime we want and key west is but a short drive from us also and since we only have four nights thought this was a better deal , ok here is the questions anyone been to one of these resorts??? I have read alot of great reviews for cancun anyone been there yet ?? thanks for your help

Which group of inclusives? We had a great experience with Beaches - the family resorts affiliated with Sandals - but I think there are lots of flavors of all-inclusives, some with great reputations and some not-so-good.

We stayed at the Palace all inclusive in Cancun....the Sun Palace....there is the Moon Palace, Beach Palace, and a few others. We stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. I do not think the Palace all inclusivesare on the same scale as the Beaches ones....Beaches is more luxurious.

WE stayed at Moon Palace about 6 years ago when it was brand new and it was beautiful. Marble floors, marble shower and counter tops, marble large jacuzzi tub and everyroom had an ocean view. It was all inclusive and then you could also dtake advantage of all the other palace resorts eg. their resteraunts, beaches, acitivities, pools etc. The hotel provided a shuttle to the other resorts at certain times of the day. We used this to get into town so we could walk other places. We spent 7 days there and it was great. We also went to Xcaret and Tulum ruins.

We stay at Club Med in Cancun and absolutely LOVE IT! THe thing we liked the most is that the tips for the most part were included in the price of our room so we just tipped the bartenders to get "better service" and tipped the maid to get quicker room cleaning. Cancun is SO MUCH FUN! We've done cruises and Cancun both alone and with the kids and all of us have decided Cancun is A LOT of fun and no sea sickness to deal with and HUGE swimming pools and the ocean. Also the strip on the 7 of Cancun is a lot of fun with some great restaurants and such!

PM me if you want any info on Cancun

We went to the Sun Palace for a week for our honeymoon. It was fabulous, especially after having planned our wedding ourselves, not to have to think about what/when/where to eat/drink, etc. Our stay also included a couple trips to the ruins at Chichen Itza and Isla Mujeres. The beaches were great. One consideration: depending when you are thinking of going, a disadvantage of a land vacation is that if the weather turns bad, you're stuck. Whereas on a cruise, you can often divert to avoid bad weather. We went to Cancun in November and hit it lucky-- great weather, while some friends that went the week before were washed out! Also just depends what kind of trip you're looking for... :teeth:

Thanks everyone , we were thinking resort because I am rather active and hate sitting around while hubby likes to sit around, after looking I saw that resorts offered more stuff for me to do and the pools are huge ehheeh with lots of beach play, and for the price it was great all food and drinks including achohol is included ehhe so no surprises at the end.LOl any one with more information on cancun I would love to hear from you thanks again everyone

We went to an all-inclusive last August and will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN! I copied and pasted my original post regarding this vacation last August (in fact, this awful vacation prompted us to become DVC members which we did a month after this trip):

Reflections of a Non-Disney Bahamian Vacation

My husband and I recently spent 4 days and 3 nights at an all-inclusive resort in Nassau. This Resort is a well-known chain of all-inclusives. Let's just say that based on some reasons I will list below, we will probably be very hesitant in the future about spending money on a vacation that has not in some way been "Disney-approved." And in many ways, we are SO SPOILED by our treatment by Disney that it is difficult for any others to live up to our expectations.

1 - The Resort was dirty and not well-kept. Our room was worn, dirty, stinky, grimy, etc. We were scared to walk around without shoes on and I think I may have used an entire can of Lysol! There was no way that the housekeepers were as meticulous as the mousekeepers or cabin stewards --God bless the Mousekeepers & Stewards and all that they do because they are MARVELOUS! There was garbage around the resort that would have normally been picked up as soon as it was dropped at a Disney locale. Eeew.

2 - I now have new appreciation for those working for tips -- they want to please you and they want to make you happy. That is how they will earn their money. At this particular all-inclusive tips were not accepted in any form so they pretty much didn't care if they were nice to you at all. In many cases they were rude. Made me very sad. :(

3 - Disney entertainment can't be beat. Although me and my husband are younger (28 & 31 yrs) without children, we now realize that we have NO INTEREST in drinking until we drop and partying until the sun comes up. The Resort was strictly 18+ and was centered around the partying-atmosphere. We tried, though...we really did. We tried to join in the fun and entertainment EVERY night, but ended up bored out of our skulls by 10pm. We ended up making our own fun in our dirty, grimy, filthy room (get your mind out of the gutter, that's not what I'm saying).

4 - The food here was pretty good but the buffet was no Topsiders/Beach Blanket Buffet! I really really REALLY missed having someone place my napkin on my lap and pull out my chair for me to sit. In fact, I expressed this to my husband and he was nice enough to accomodate those missing dining perks at every meal. He's so good to me!

Overall, we really did try...we were SO nice and friendly every day at every moment and instance during this vacation to all who were around us. We were definitely not rude in any way. In fact, we tried to be friendly and happy to the staff in the hopes that they would catch on. I can't tell you how many times I smiled and said 'please' and 'thank you very much!' I am not looking to be attacked here, this is merely our reflections of our time at the Resort. I am not saying that EVERY resort of the non-Disney nature would be like this but we are not going to spend more money to find out. Why should we when Disney is a sure thing? When we are ready to see the rest of the world, we will do so as DVC members. This trip has ensured that Disney fun is definitely for us.

Thank you for all that have read my comments!

We've been on 3 DCL sailings the last 3 years........I figured DDs 14 and 12 were "burned out" so I booked an all inclusive "Beeches" they said "Dad, we haven't done the Western sailing yet!" So, I cancelled and booked the Western.

::yes::

We have done the DLC on the 3 & 4 day cruises and loved it.
This summer for the first time we did an all inclusive resort 30 min. south of cancun in playa del carmen. I was worried but I think its like cruises, if you pick a first class company you will love it.

We did the Iberostar Lindo, there are lots of Iberostar and this one is brand new and top rated, it opened last November. The resort was beautiful, really beautiful and it had lots to do, a wave pool, lazy river, beautiful large pool with swim up bar, waterfalls, sports pool, beach, hobbie cats. For a fee there was bananna boat rides, snorkeling, fishing, trips to Xcart and Tulum. Lots to do.

The food was much better than I expected and the service was
great. I think if you find a top quality resort you will love it, but you don't want to be stuck in a place with soso food and a dirty pool or grounds. I have also heard the palace resorts in Cancun are nice.

Have fun,
Wintermom

We went to Cancun with some friends last year. It was beautiful and a lot of fun!! I've done all-inclusives before and will never do it again. Usually the food is lousy and you feel like you "have" to eat there to get your money's worth. We just booked a room (most hotels will do this without the all-inclusive) and were able to go out at night. Like someone else said, there are many great places to eat and it is very easy to hop on a bus and get around the strip. :bounce: I would vote to go to Cancun!! You won't regret it.::yes::

Have fun, whatever you decide.

Just booked a trip to Bahia Principe Akumal in Tulum (south of cancun) for February. Want to try something different than a cruise. DS15 was bored on DCL (though he had a great time, he prefers RCCL).

I am looking forward to returning to DCL after he leaves for college!

Pick a first rate AI and you'll be happy.
