Not sure if this is the right board or not, but has anyone heard anything about ALL of the DS closing? We have lost at least three around here lately, and our closest one in N Attleboro, MA certainly looks like it is on its way out. Empty shelves, hundreds of the Stitch bubble blowers filling one whole wall, no snowglobes, all kids clothes in only two sizes, everything 75% off, etc. You get the picture.

Anyone have any news???

Disney is trying to sell them. I doubt that they would close them unless they can't find a buyer, and even if that's the case, they would retain the profitable ones.

I have been in the N. attleboro store several times in the past week. They have empty shelves due to the clearance sales . They have started to put out the fall merchandise ie backpacks, they told me lunchboxes will be next. The manager also said adult night shirts and collectables will return soon. Barb

Barb,
You don't know how glad we are to hear that. Going into TDS a couple of times a week is about the only way we can get from trip to trip.

Went to the one in Jackson a few weeks ago and they had a huge clearance. All Snow Globes were 50% off and just about everything else in the store was as well. Also they have had a huge sale online......I think its just time to bring out the back to school and Halloween/Christmas things.

My Disney Store is having a huge 75% off sale, I'm really wondering if it's closing. I wish there was a list somewhere of which ones are closing.

I hope they don't close! It's the only way to get that "Disney fix" in between trips!

DH read on the boards somewhere that most of the Disney stores are getting ready to undergo drastic remodeling, including removal of some of those large characters, tv screens, etc.... We were speculating wether or not Disney would sell those, but figured they wouldn't due to copyright issues, etc... I'm not sure where he read that, be he surfs the boards a lot!

WE live near you. Providence Place Mall closed it's store. Emerald Square Mall one is much smaller. The best one is at Warwick Mall, Hugh sale now, just got a back pack for $2.99 and Lion King Plush for $3.49.
There was supposed to be a discount "Disney Store "at Wrentham Village but that never happened. My In laws go to the one in myrtle Beach and have gotten shirts for 49 cents !!
Too bad that the store are slowly closing.
we always stop in when at the mall.

The shelves look pretty bare...but it seems that they are just waiting to redo the shelves with new fall merchandise per my store managers....and I could see in the back the other day and there were tons of unopened boxes and the shelves were almost empty in the store....

I know some of our stores closed recently. I believe I read somewhere that they were planning to remodel the stores but the older ones for some reason could not be remodeled and those are the ones that closed.

It used to be that TDS had sales only 4 times a year and when we did we would sell the majority and start over with the new stuff. We would even ship the product back to homebase to make room for more goodies. Now we are selling everything and bringing out all the new lines. We are really excited to see the new product and have been promised more adult and infant clothing and such by the fall. Keep your fingers crossed that this new product is what takes us back to the top of the specialty market!!

Good riddance. Their merchandising has increasingly deteriorated over the years. How many "snowglobes" or stuffed animals or DVDs or cheap toys can one buy? I feel sorry only for the loyal employees who have worked in the stores for years. Disney has really let them down:(

Hated to see the Providence store close...it was nice and big. Occasionally get to ESM, but almost never to the Warwick one...but I just might have to venture down that way if they've got some good deals. A discount Disney store in Wrentham would have been great!

I went to the New Orleans Disney store to purchase some Disney dollars for our December trip and almost everything (except Nemo stuff) was 50% to 75% off. I didn't get Disney dollars but came out with two huge bags with stuff for our trip for my grandson and stuff for Christmas. Figured my money would go further there than at Disney

I also read that Disney was trying to find a buyer. They also said if no buyer was found, they would close the stores. What they did not say was how long they would look for a buyer.

I asked the Castmember in our local DS and was told that they are redoing all the stores, and they are going to carry adult and infant clothing again. She also said they are going to carry the autograph books and other stuff that you could only get in the parks too. That is the reason for the sales so they can make room for all the new merchandise. I can't wait. Now I won't have to get my daughter's infant clothes from Disney Auctions on Ebay. Hopefully all this is true.

Hopefully the new merchandise will be better than the old.

I am really hopeful that new merchandise will be arriving - last time I went to Emerald Sq Mall - I was dissapointed to see that they no longer had pins!! I am hopeful that the new stock will be better variety!!
