all checked in for our cruise but one question...

So we are all checked in for our cruise in October. We chose the selection to settle up our bill with cash. My plan is wanting to use a gift card. Did I select the right option in picking cash or should I have clicked credit card when given the option? Also do I put the gift card on the account when I get on the ship or should I wait till the end? Thanks!

You can just wait until you're on the ship to put the gift card on there. Not necessisarily immediately upon arriving, as it's a mad house then. Try for after dinner or, even, after the whole dinner/show thing.

You want to put the gift card on there right away. With a cash account, they will require you to visit Guest Services everytime you reach a pre-set limit on purchases to add cash to the account.

I have never really found it to be a problem going right when I get on board - of course I usually have Group 2 or 3, so maybe that's why.

You can also call the number for Gifts and Amenities and purchase on board credit - I think it's in $25 or $50 increments but say your card is $1000, you can purchase that much in on board credit. Then you wouldn't even have to visit Guest Services on the first day.

In either case, hold onto the card because if there is money left over, it will go back to the card.

I usually pick credit card, because I budget for the gift cards pretty closely, and then don't want to have to deal with guest services on the last night when the line is long. I usually end up with a charge for $20 bucks or so, and I don't have to deal with waiting in line or having money credited back on a gift card.

So if I buy onboard credit using a gift card and not all is spent then it will go back to the gift card? good to know that the money wont be lost. Maybe i'll do this option. The person I'm traveling with has their own set up to pay to their credit card. So If I buy onboard credit it will only be linked to me and not to both of us right?

It should be. I didn't buy it in advance our first cruise (all adult family) but we each used our own money or card for our account and my gift card that I put on while boarding only went to me.
