my Dr. gave me some samples. I thought it was a rx until i saw it in the store. Wal-mart online is $29.44 for 28 . That can become pricey any one know if i can get it in a rx or where i can get it cheaper. Tonight is my 1st day. Would like to know if anyone else is taking this

my dr. gave me the same thing yesterday:thumbsup2 helped my stomach feel better. I too thought it was prescription only but googled it and found out it was over the couter. Normally, i take probiotics that are "pearls" they work also. (these were a free sample from the doc)

i hope this stuff works. Dunno about the cost thought
29.44 X 12 months = $353.28

Hopefully insurance will pay for something similar

i dont think insurance will cover it since it will most likely be considered an alternative treatment or "natural treatment" , but if it does let me know so i can get on the phone with my doctor :banana: I've been to whole foods and most probiotics are not very cheap, but they are less pricey than the align. If you haven't purchased it yet maybe you should go into a whole foods and ask one of the people in there to help you out a bit in choosing a probiotic. They are really knowledgeble.

I think insurance won't cover it since it's an OTC medication - yes, even if the doctor writes a prescription. If you have a healthcare flexible spending account, this would probably be eligible (stuff like Pepto Bismol, Tums, etc) for reimbursement.

I think I saw this in the CVS flyer for this week - about $28 but with $4 Extra Care Bucks. My DMIL just started this product and is having good results with it.

I'm not completely familiar with the meds your doctor has suggested, but wanted to add that maybe you could look into the ingredients in the yogurt that Jamie Lee Curtis does the commercials for. She uses the same key words like pro-biotic and digestive help, etc. Maybe the yogurt will provide the same relief as the over the counter medication. Perhaps, you can get nutrition and relief at the same time. :thumbsup2

BJ's has it for $39.99 for 49 caplets. This has been my life saver for over a year. Well worth the cost.

Isn't Align just probiotics/acidophilus?

I've taken a generic version of this for almost a year. It totally cleared up some ongoing bathroom problems I was having. If I miss it for a few days, the problem comes back.

I typically buy mine at Sam's Club. I get a big bottle for right around $9 or $12...can't really remember. The bottle is lavender colored.

Vitacost.com also has a wide variety for sale, for reasonable prices. The main thing you want to look for is the number of LIVE bacteria in each pill...the higher the better. If you have to take several pills instead of just one, it's probably not a deal.

There isn't any other product exactly like Align - the strain of bacteria used in that supplement is completely novel. However, that doesn't mean that a different product wouldn't work for you. You could certainly try Acidophilus - it comes as the pearls a PP mentioned, or as chewable tablets - maybe even as capsules, depending on where you buy it.

It can be very inexpensive and might be worth a shot, since all probiotics work on the same premise of restoring the natural balance of flora in your GI tract. You can also eat yogurt if you like it and can tolerate it - it doesn't have to be the Activia, since just about all yogurt contains active cultures of acidophilus. Activia does have a certain strain (Bifidis regularis) that is unique to it.

There is also Culturelle - it is another probiotic supplement. It is still pricey at around $18-$20 per box. I have personally used this one before. I had a terrible stomach flu a few years ago and my stomach wasn't right for months afterward. My pharmacist suggested I try that - I used it for a couple of weeks, noticed an improvement, then stopped using it. I've been fine since then. I suppose it depends on whether or not this is an acute problem (like mine was) or a more long term issue where you may be using this supplement regularly.

You might try going to Drugstore.com and searching "probiotic" - you'll get a laundry list of products and you can take it to your doctor or pharmacist to see if a less expensive option is viable for you.

Good luck!

I was checking out Align at amazon because they have the subscribe and save program there. Free shipping and the cost if $23.84 for 28 tablets. They will auto send every month, two months, or three months, you choose. I decided to try the yogurt Jamie Lee Curtis pushes first and it has made some improvements but I still have stomach pain and irregularity occasionally so I may give Align a try.

I'm on day 2. My dr. gave me a 3 month supply plus she gave me 5 samples of MiraLax. I havent tried the MiraLax yet. I want to test each one sepratly because if one gives me the run or upset stomach i want to figure out the best time to take it so i'm not running to the restroom at work.

I do have the healthcare flexable acct but i already maxed out for the year but its starts over in Jan. I really hope they cover it. I wonder if i will need something from the Dr.(GI -specialist) saying i need it for medical reasons.

This is good news to hear. I'm going on a cruise in NOv. and eating yummy food is always a pain because i end up in the restroom. I hate using public restrooms when i'm having #2 issues especial when there pain, cramping and gas -yuck! sorry TMI

Hope this helps me enjoy my 1st cruise because i love to EAT!

I've been using Digestive Advantage for IBS for about a year now and it has become my new best friend:love: It contains GanedenBC and it is also OTC-I usually buy it @Walmart or CVS or Shop-rite for about $9 for 32 capsules. It has allowed me to live my life again:woohoo:

Thanks WDWAholic...

I am suffering as we speak from terrible bloating and cramps..so tired of this IBS...ugh.

I'm going to buy some tomorrow.

The worst is the fact that healthy eating triggers my symptoms...a nice salad at lunch sent me in pain the rest of the day...and forget about bloating...thank goodness for low-rise jeans and loose tops. UGH.

I know i cant go overboard eating ---maybe not a good choice of words since I'll be on a ship-lol! I just hope i dont have to run to every bathroom on board-lol!

Thanks for the Amazon info, I just signed up. I've been taking Align for my IBS and getting it at my local pharmacy for $27 per. Both my family doc and gastro doc recommended Align.
