Does anyone know why they decided to change the closing date for AT? One of the main reasons that we scheduled a trip to WDW in December was so we could experience this attraction one last time. We were told that the closing day was suppose to be in Feb of 2004!!! This is by far one of our favorite attractions and are EXTREMELY upset that it is not going to be there as planned!!! I don't know why they couldn't at least wait until after the holiday season, considering the fact that that is usually the busiest time of the year for them, you would think that it would make sense to have more attractions open.......:( :(

Why is Disney closing one of the attraction that pulls the longest lines in Tomorrowland? Well, let's see... I am sure it was obvious to the same ones that concluded Cindy's castle would look fantastic painted in bubble gum pink and decorated with gummies and lifesavers in 1998, the legacy walls really belonged at the entrance to Epcot blocking the view, California really needed Disney California, guests were not as interested in ee mornings as in seeing cast members dressed up at the resorts while having breakfast...

Yup, they really know what the guests want! So, hey, who is to blame, really?

I don't think the Feb date was ever "official"..... such a shame they are changing that ride - I've only been on it once and was looking forward to it on my next trip.

This is one of my favorite attractions at WDW. I got to do it one last time in Sept. but I'm gonna really miss it!

Hmm, only 6 days away from what has been reported as the official closing date, and still no official word that it is closing. Is it definitely closing October 12? Any chance that will be delayed a few weeks?

I'm glad this is not just me that feels this way.
I just hope they come to their senses and at least wait till after the holiday season to close. Regardless, we are upset that they will be changing this attraction. I hope they move it to Disneyland in CA!! It would fit in perfectly there!

I still haven't told my fiancee that it would be closed during our trip!! This was one of the only reasons that he agreed to go there this year! I told him it was suppose to close in '04 so this would be our goodbye trip to his favorite attraction there!!! I hope he doesn't back out now!!!!!

I agree with everyone. I am so disappointed by this news. I had been hyping the ride up to my parents for our trip next week. So sad:(

Aw darn... add one more thing to the list of the things my family (well, for this ride DH & oldest daughter) won't ever get to do.
:(

Alien Encounter is no longer on the official park maps. I don't know the exact date, but it looks like it'll close any day now.

Today is the last day, and the only date given as official start of the redevelopment was October 12....

I enjoyed AE, but I can see the need for a change. This attraction never really fit the MK mold.

As far as the popularity of this attraction, at least since I started at MK 4+ years ago, AE has consistently been one of the Shortest lines in Tomorrowland. It pulls adequate numbers, but it is far from being the most popular attraction in the park. It is also one that recieves the most concerns.

Personally, I'm glad they're changing it to something more appropriate for the Magic Kingdom.

I have no real gripe with the ride, I just thought it was inappropriate for that particular park. It's the only Disney ride I had no interest in--never rode it. Sitting in the pitch black having the crap scared out of me is not my idea of a good time.

I'm hoping the new "Stitch" take on the attraction will be more fun.

Personally, I never liked the ride at all....and the past 5 years like Safari Steve said it never had a line that I ever saw...Now about 7 years ago it had huge lines....but not anymore...

I saw it once....didn't really find it scary or entertaining in the least. The effects were pretty good, but really, you *know* you aren't going to be eaten by an alien and its not really a scenario I want to pretend is reality.

Looking forward to its replacement! But I'm sorry that those of you who wanted one last chance to nearly be eaten or mauled won't get it!
