WOW!
Is all I can say.
It was absolutely amazing, worth every single second of the year and a half I waited.
Midnight showing was awesome- one girl was dressed like the Mad Hatter and looked awesome.

It's two thirty here, though, so I'll post more in the afternoon <3

Okay.
So now that I'm awake, I can type up a review :]

As I said before, I adored this movie. It was everything I had waited for and more. The beginning of the movie is gorgeous, and Mia Wasikowska plays the PERFECT Alice. Seriously, everything about her was spot on Alice grown up.

I really enjoyed the backstory with her father, and her "6 impossible things", it really brought some depth to a character who has always been so one-dimensional.

Johnny as the Mad Hatter was fabulous and unpredictable. One second he'd be carefree and well, mad!, and the next he would have an angry, war-ready Scottish accent. He and Alice's brotherly/sisterly type relationship was really cute.

HBC was fabulous as the Red Queen, I loved her interpretation!

Anne Hathaway also played her role excellently. A review on IMDB criticized her heavy white makeup, but HELLO, she's technically a chess piece! So I thought she played her role of the "nice sister" well.

The new Cheshire Cat? SO much better than the Disney one, I have to say. Instead of being a smart-alec all the time, he was actually helpful and caring, and he was pretty darn awesome.

I will admit there were plenty of flaws... At some points the comedy seemed forced, the "dance" at the end was awesome and I loved it, but out of place, some acting was a little spotty. The ending in general was a little disappointing, but not enough to ruin the movie. (The battle was awesome.. but the "epilogue" was a bit meh)

They had many, MANY references to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and as someone who loves the books, I was happy to be able to find them.

I thought the CGI was done really well, considering it was pretty much all CGI.. A little like Avatar in Wonderland ;)

The artistry and imagery was breathtaking - Tim Burton does it again with his quirky darkness.

I'd rate it as a 9 out 10, it is now my 4th favorite Burton.
It's definitely not for everyone, while my three other friends loved it too, there were plenty who didn't... To each their own, but if you love Burton and you love Alice - you may like this film!

Thanks for posting; I can't wait to see it hopefully tonight with older DS, youngest is too afraid to see it!

I'm SOOO excited.
Hopefully i'll get to see it soon.
I LOVE love love all of Tim Burton's stuff.
And i absolutely love Alice in Wonderland.
I was Alice for Halloween this year. XD

Hi

I could really use your help. My DD is 6 and desperate to see the movie. IYO is she too young - will she be scared. Different I know, but she watched Coroline and was really scared -:scared1:

Thanks :thumbsup2

To be honest, she might be a little. While there is no explicit gore or anything there are two battle scenes and the Mad Hatter is somewhat temperamental. (his eyes change colors when he gets upset)

I probably would have loved it when I was younger, but if she didn't like Coraline than this may be a little rough. (though Coraline has much darker undertones, this is still pretty creepy).

I honestly cried as soon as the beginning credits started.

I couldn't believe I was finally seeing it... I had to hold my friends hands becase I was so excited :p

There was an ad from TRON: Legacy, too... IT LOOKS SO BA.

I might be seeing it not this weekend, but the next. If not then, then the weekend after the next
I'm soo excited!

I really wanna see this movie! I might (but probably not) see it this weekend. If I do, I'm sure it will be fun! It looks really good, and I want to see it even more after your positive review about it, Megan! :thumbsup2

And see, I totally disagree with your review.

I was very very disappointed with the movie.

I thought this was Johnny Depp's worst portrayal of a character ever.

Anne Hathaway and Helen Bonham Carter were both pretty great though.
And the chesire cat was awesome.

The ending of the movie was my favorite (the battle scene to the credits) I liked that they concluded it in a way where she actually did something.

And I agree the CGI was amazing!

I thought the movie overall was too fast and its probably my least favorite burton movie except Charlie and the chocolate factory.

But I may have this all because i went in with high expectations. I also liked that they stuck true to the books quite well.

I'm seeing it this weekend.

tbh, I'm going in with low expectations. I just haven't been intrigued by the commercial at all, so hopefully since I have low expectations, it'll blow me away.

I think it was pretty much impossible for me to not like this movie.

I'd been waiting for it too long and I cried when the opening title came on xD *nerd*

I had been waiting for it too. Since the day it was announced that it was being made. So I was in 8th or 9th grade. That's about 5 years. I think the fact that I had been waiting so long kinda killed it too. I am the biggest fan of Alice in Wonderland that you'll ever meet. And by that I include the books and the original disney movie. It just wasn't as great as I thought. And was wayyyyy to similar to the first draft of the script (which is a terrible thing) I think that maybe if it wasn't aimed to be a kids movie then maybe it could have been so much better. Tim Burton seems to do better with movies that aren't PG.

I'm a fan of the books and original movie too...

I don't know- to each their own.

I'm a huge Burton fan, too. Not to the point where I don't see the flaws.. but a big fan nevertheless.

I also love the weird adaptations of Alice like Syfy's Alice, if it makes a difference.

syfy's alice i like too...

I don't know, it might just be that since I started working at a movie theater that I'm over critical of movies too. Most of my co-workers are the same way. Probably why all 67 of us in the theater were disappointed.

Huh.
Weird.

The most disappointed kids I saw in my theater were the stoners who thought it was going to be super trippy and when it actually had a storyline they weren't happy.
