Ok not what I wanted for my first post but....

I have just heard frm someone I know at the cinema that Odeon, cineworld and vue have all dropped the Alice In WOnderland screenings (which pretty much means no cinema in the UK will be showing it)
There have been many disputes recently over the rules for cinema and dvd release timings. The Cinemas have an agreement that there is a 16 week delay from date of release with them and the DVD release.
Last year there was major issues with the release of UP which is why no release date came out untilt he last minute.
Disney want the delay to be changed to 12 weeks and the cinemas have refused. Result they are not going to be showing it at all which also means no 3D screenings.
Chances are there will be a comprimise reached before cinema release date but right now all odeon cinemas have taken down all of their standies and posters advertising it.

I will be gutted if this doesn't get shown, I have been looking forward it since it was announced.

Shame, I was really looking forward to seeing that!!

I'm so glad that my local 3D screen is a Showcase! At the same time I'll be gutted if they do this, it'll really ruin it for the majority.

I'll be gutted too. :sad2:

Now that you have said that, when I was in my local Cineworld on Monday they had all the AiW posters stacked in a hallway. I assumed they were getting ready to put them up but maybe they had taken them all down. :sad1:

I'm pretty sure they will reach a compromise. It's VERY unlikely the cinema will lose out on the kind of revenues Alice in Wonderland will bring in. Disney are in the driving seat on this one.

Being very selfish here :rolleyes1 but if it rolls out quicker to dvd/blu ray I'll be happy, since our nearest cinema is 45 miles away :)

I refuse to pay extra to go and see 3D. Then they want you to pay for glasses :headache: Because Avatar was only available at Cineworld in 3D it is another that we will wait for the dvd release :)

Personally this is one of the things that I make a judgement on based on the film.
There are some films that I just have to watch in the cinema to get the full experience - so much so that even if they released the DVD a week later I would still pay to go and watch it in the cinema.
On the other hand there are also plenty of films that I see and straight away think 'I will wait for the DVD'
I'm sure I'm not unique in this respect, so don't think the time between cinema and DVD release is as crucial as they are all making out :confused3

I saw the trailer for Alice when I saw Avatar a couple weeks ago and thought that the 3D looked more real than the Avatar film.

I'm exactly the same as you, Kenny. That's why I went to see Avator 3D in the cinema in the end ~ it just wouldn't have the same effect at home. Also, there are some films that I will buy on DVD as soon as they are released ~ and others that, although I want to watch them, I will patiently wait a few months until they are reduced to a fiver or less!

We go to an Empire cinema, although there's an Odeon closer to home the Empire has free parking, so this boycott shouldn't affect us. Hopefully it will get resolved soon so the rest of you can get to see it.

45 miles away :scared1:

45 Miles! :faint:

If Avatar appeals to you Reid then it really is worth seeing it on the big screen in 3D. ::yes:: I really didn't want to see it but dh dragged me & I am so pleased that I did see it in 3d.

This was in the Guardian last week.

I'd be VERY surprised if this 'boycott' went through to be honest, as with most things like this money will tall and they will work something out between them :)

:goodvibes

I was planning to take my dd and her friends to see this followed by pizza hut for her birthday next month. I hope it doesn't get cancelled:scared1:

Our local cineworld has huge posters up advertising it for release on 5th of March, so hopefully they'll still be showing it.

I agree Kenny :thumbsup2 I much prefer the cinema experience. Just unfortunate in our case it we have to turn it into a major day out and expense.
Thankfully Pixar UP was released while we were at SIL. We went to Showcase and saw this beautiful film and then I immediately pre-ordered it on blu-ray :goodvibes

IMHO what the cinema's have to do is stop ripping people off with buckets of coke, buckets of popcorn and buckets of sweets

I agree with you there. They certainly do charge a premium.
I don't know if our local cinema is unique but they do allow you to take your own refreshments in. We often see people with a bag full of drinks sweets and supermarket popcorn, saving themselves a small fortune.
But they also provide it for those that get all misty eyed and nostalgic for the 'bucket' of popcorn :)

I was at my local cineworld yesterday afternoon and they still had their AiW stuff up. I'm going again this evening (cineworld unlimted card, :cool1:) so we shall see...

I'll be really upset if they don't show this, I've been looking forward to this since the days when it was all just rumour and to not see it on the big screen...I'll be really upset.

If they don't show this in the 2 cinemas in my area, Odeon and Cineworld I will just have to travel to Bluewater to see it there instead...means a visit to the Disney Store aswell :)
