I read on another post that Alfredo's did not allow an appitizer with the dinner package, only soup or salad. Has anyone here had this happen or did that person just have a bad waiter? I would like everyone in our party to try the fettucine, but not as an entree since that would be a bad value with the dinner package. I know many people don't care for this restuarant, but we like it so I chose it for the package. If an appitizer is not allowed, however, I will be cancelling the dinner package and figuring out another plan.

TIA,
Cindy

Hi Cindy,
We did the CP here last week and were told only salad or soup was allowed even though we had the Platinum Package which would have allowed us any appitizer. On top of this it was our worst meal of the entire 11 night stay and I have eaten here in the past and enjoyed it. We had the the salad for a starter which was ok nothing special. The bread that they brought was so hard you could not cut it with the knife and even once we broke it chewing was not easy. We both ordered the meal where you get their three most popular items and the fettuccini was included and it was very bland and had no cheese flavor. The other two items were as bad and I will not be going back for a long time.
The only reason I choose this was because I had had a very good meal here before about 2 yrs ago but it seems to have really changed.
Good luck with your decision and if you decide to stick with it I hope your meal is better than ours was.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to change my PS this morning, but there was nothing left. I guess I'll keep it and hope for the best. I am very disheartened to learn they aren't offering an appitizer option, but it's better to find that out now rather than when we get there.

We had a similar experience Saturday night (12/13) at Coral Reef. You could not order off the menu - - they had a special menu printed with no prices on it "For our Candlelight Processional Guests". It included a "starter" which had a choice of a soup or salad, one entree (from a list of about 7) and one dessert and they only had a choice of two desserts: eggnog cheesecake and winterberry cobbler. I feel the whole candlelight processional dinner was entirely misrepresented!!

Very interesting. I guess my best plan is to chuck my plan. ;)
Seriously though, I'll just let everyone know that we may not get what we hoped for.

Thanks for the input!

Cindy

We did the package at LeCellier last week and it was the usual menu.

Hi!

We ate at Alfredo's on 12-11-03 as part of our CLP package. We eat here each year and love it.

We could have one appetizer, main entree, desert and non alcoholic drink (each).

DH ordered the fettucine as his appetizer. Yummy!

I had the caesar salad as my appetizer. Our really cool waiter had wanted me to try something different on the menu like the calamari. I tried the calamari last year as my appetizer so this year I wanted to try something different-the caesar just looked so good.

Enjoy!

Renee

That is very confusing. I hope they (Alfredo's) came to a good conclusion as to how The CLP package works. We have res there (on the CLP package) Dec 27. Lisa

We did the CP package on Nov. 30 and we both had calamari as appetizers with no problem. That's weird that they said soup or salad only.

 This is a big difference in experiences. I am doing CP on the 23rd (4th time) and will be very dissapointed if only offered soup or salad for an appetizer.

Hope everyone has good luck with their package!::yes::

Not sure if my post was the one that the OP had seen, but I did post previously that our waiter told us soup or salad. I questioned him on it stating that I was told the package included an appetizer. He asked what I wanted (the fettuchini, which was excellent by the way ;)) and he somewhat begrudgingly said he could do that. Be aware if you have kids that the kids selections are very limited (no soup/salad/appetizer, choice of kids menu entree, and ice cream (no other choice) for dessert.

Obviously different waiters treat these packages differently, even in the same restaurant. If you are told soup or salad I'd question the waiter..................and chances are you'll get your appetizer. Of course my wife HATES it when I question something (for fear it will look like I'm making a scene?) so I try and avoid places that put me in that situation. Therefore, I won't do Alfredo's again with the CP dinner package, I've already crossed San Angel Inn off our list based on last years' flan incident......................and it looks like we won't be doing Coral Reef either. I refuse to spend $40+ on a meal only to be offered a limited menu.

We love Le Cellier. Full menu, soup for the kids, full dessert choice for everyone.....................they know how to keep me coming back ;).

Yes, it was yours that I saw. Thanks for explaining the situation further. I have kind of decided to hope for the best and expect the worst. I should end up somewhere in between. I called and tried to switch to Le Cellier, but there wasn't anything available for the 26th.

I am so glad that you shared your experience (and also to everyone else who has posted on this thread) so that I will be prepared going in. It's not a pretty sight when I get disappointed and I handle it alot better knowing ahead of time. ;)

Thanks everyone!!!
Cindy

Oh, I do have a child, but she is almost 4 and won't care as long as she can get some pasta. :) Although I won't be ordering milk for her. Last time we were there we ordered milk and it was curdled. Eck.

Alas, it may not be that easy. Maybe our downfall was a table right next to the dessert table...................but our 5 yo daughter got to spend a lot of time looking at the Ladybug strawberry mouse dessert. It really is cute and any kid would love it. She spent the entire meal talking about that dessert and how she was going to get it. Of course dessert time comes and our rushed and somewhat annoying waiter, after our daughter so cutely with such delight in describing it asks for the ladybug, responds............ice a cream a for de kids! Loser!!! I didn't like our waiter, can you tell? Well, fortunately after being spit up upon in massive quantities by our 3 month old my DW was in no mood for dessert............so we did get a labdybug and my dessert. So, don't let your daughter see that dessert tray or you will be eating her ice cream for dessert.

As for my dessert, they have a sampler plate that has small versions of 4 different desserts on it. When I asked for that you could tell the waiter wasn't thrilled..............but he did it anyway. Did I say loser?

Anywho..............I agree with you, if you go in prepared and expecting the worst you won't be disappointed and might even be very pleasantly surprised. We had a nice meal. The fettuchini was excellent, the entrees were very good, the desserts were great. Heck we may very well go back..............just not with the package. But that doesn't mean you won't enjoy your meal so please do get excited...........it will be great however it turns out.

Thanks for the warning. I will be sure she knows how exciting ice cream is. ;-)

It sounds like you really did have a horrible waiter. My husband and I ate here twice on our honeymoon, so it's sort of "our" resturant even though most people seem to not like it. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the food. We have been telling our family about the fettucine for 6 years and now they will get a chance to see for themselves.

I am starting to get excited again after being down for a few days about this.

Well, I could not believe how well the dinner went. It obviously depends highly on the waiter at this restaurant as to whether the CP package is a good one or not. Our waiter was fabulous. There were 9 of us and we were in and out in just over an hour! Very attentive service. Our waiter started out by letting us know we could have an appetizer and any entree. No one else in my group ordered the fettuccine as an appetizer (even though I had told them too. ;) ) but my SIL ordered the calamari so by the time he got to me I figured I would be ok with ordering the fettuccine and the waiter didn't even flinch. Our food was great, even though my DH feels that the fettuccine isn't as good as it was on our honeymoon 6 years ago. When it came time for dessert our waiter was very enthusiastic about describing each one for us. He even offered the sampler, though he said it would have to be split between 2 people. No one went for that as we are all too greedy to share. ;)

Again, I just wanted to let everyone know that there is hope. From what I have read it seems almost all of the restaurants (except Le Cellier) had some issues with the dinner package. I am so appreciative to everyone who responded to my post and I hope your next trip goes better. :)

Thanks all,
Cindy

We had a good experience as well, but am very greatful for those who posted they didn't:D

This is not my favorite restaurant on property (DS's) but I must say this was the best experience we have had there so far! One of the waiters was having a ball and singing to the ladies at different tables, they also did their own version of swinging the napkins over the head singing thing. The whole restaurant was really crazy and fun.

We also liked the addition of the veal medallions instead of the veal chop.::yes::

Out of curiosity, what is the Platinum CP Dinner package and how do you get it?

I am not sure of that exact name. What I assumed the poster who mentioned that meant was the highest tier package, which is what Alfredo's comes under. There are 3 different price levels: Tier 1 which are the buffets, Tier 2 which are the less expensive (comparetively of course) sit down meals, and Tier 3 which are the higher priced meals. I found great information about the CP dinner package both on this site and on allears.net

Hope that helps,
Cindy

The Platinum package is a VERY expensive all inclusive package...tickets, 3 meals/day, snacks, tours, golf, boats, etc.. It used to be called the Grand Plan.

Reading this thread reminds me of why we don't go to Alfredos anymore!
