I was wondering has anyone done any shopping at Save A Lot? I have shopped there once or twice and I did not like the taste of the food. I was going to try Aldi's products and see if I liked them any better. Has anyone tried both and prefer one over another? :sunny: :teeth:

I prefer Aldi's to Save a Lot!! I tried Save a lot a couple of times and ended up throwing out what i bought. I have just started shopping at Aldi more..... :sunny:

I switched from Save-a-lot to Aldi's too, but now I've found an even better discount grocery store - Price Rite. Apparently it's the Shop-Rite warehouse grocery store. Not sure what areas they're in - we're in PA. Low prices, CLEAN store, lots of room, GREAT fresh meat deals ($1.99 all the time for boneless, skinless chicken breast) Produce is fresh and looks/tastes great too! MUCH, MUCH, MUCH prefer this place over the others.

I highly recommend you see if there's one near you and check it out!!

my mom loves price right in schenectady ny! that store rules :love2:

I don't care for Save-A-Lot at all! Even their evaporated milk tastes bad.. Sheesh - what can you do to ruin evaporated milk?? :confused3

I love Aldi's and many of their own brand products.. Once I get back home I may try out that Price Rite too.. :flower:

What are you buying from Save A Lot that tastes nasty? We don't have an Aldi's near us, but do have Save A Lot. They carry many of the same name brands as the other local grocery stores (Fresh Express salad, Totinos pizza, Louisa toasted ravioli, Kelloggs cereal, etc...).

Some of their store brands we prefer to the national brand. Their "cheez-it" style crackers are much better! Their microwave popcorn is great, as are the nuts. The granola bars/breakfast bars also taste as good as the national chain. I haven't had a problem with their wheat bread, meats, etc., and I am a *picky* shopper. I do still go to Schnucks or Dierbergs for some items I can't find at Save A Lot. The only thing my kids don't like from SAL is their brand of Mac n Cheese in a box. :confused3

When I make lasagna for company I buy all my supply at Save A Lot I spend 20 dollars instead of 40 for the noodles sauces and cheeses. It tastes the same...!!

I shop most at ALDI, since they carry lowfat and no fat dairy products like yogurt and coffee creamer. I don't shop Save-A-Lot very much, but they do have the fresh meat so that portion of my shopping is occasionally done there.

We like Save A Lot. I'm sure Aldi's would be fine too, just not as convenient for us. Actually, now that I think about it, Aldi's is pretty close too, we are just used to Save A Lot!

On BIG shopping days (about twice a month), we usually go to Save A Lot first to get most stuff, then stop by home and run in the cold/frozen foods, then go to Schnucks for the name brands we just have to have like Diet Coke, and Boca, Morningstar Farms and other vegetarian options for DD and myself.

I buy the same name brands I buy anyplace at Save A Lot. That said I can't say that they are that much cheaper...

The first time I went to Save-A-Lot (after I moved in with my DD - none near my old house) I came home and said to her, "Well, I went to Save-A-Lot, but I sure as heck didn't save-a-lot..." :teeth:
