For those of you that imbibe and need something for motion sickness - what do you use????

We're not big drinkers but we do enjoy wine with dinner , maybe a tropical drink by the pool or a cocktail in the nightclubs in the evening.

What are your thoughts

Thanks everyone

You'll see many opinions on this one...

We did Bonine and we had wine with dinner and drinks by the pool and were never affected.

Best recommendation (and a fun one also) - try it at home. Take some meds on the weekend, open up a bottle of wine and see what happens. Then you will be prepared to know if will make you sleepy or sick.

Enjoy!!

We take Meclizine for seasickness and have drank by the pool or at dinner with no real problems. It can increase the effects of the alcohol and make you dizzy or tired. My suggestion would be to decide what method will work best for you and then try a few drinks out to see what happens before you leave for your trip. At least then you will know what to do and how it will affect you (within reason).

We've drank and done fine but that doesnt mean everyone will drink and be fine.

I had Bonine, Brand.

I had a drink with dinner and then a cocktail in the club.

I slept very well on the ship. :)

I use travel bands for me and the boys - I find them brilliant for sea sickness. I discovered them when I was pregnant and used them to calm my all-day morning sickness down.
And no need to avoid the odd drink.

I used the sea bands also and love them. I didn't want to worry about mixing medication with a drink if I wanted one and it worked out very well.

I used the SeaCalm, (I believe it's like Bonine) they give away on the ship, had one drink and it knocked me right out.

Next cruise I'm going to my doctor to get the patch. I'm going to try it out before the cruise to make sure it works for me.

Try Ginger capsules-no side effects at all!

I wanted to thank you all for your replies.

Went out this afternoon and got us all seabands and for back up dramamine for our son and bonine for us.

Hopefully none of us will have to use the meds.

Thanks again

A slightly different take on alcohol and sea sickness.
Based on hubby's experience, I think a drink or two can make you more prone to it, especially if you are a light drinker. He only has a glass of wine, or two at most, at dinner, and he is not at all prone to motion sickness. A couple of cruises ago, the sea was rough and he had had some wine, plus spent a lot of time in the hot tub. He now suspects that dehydrated him and made him even more subsceptible. It was the first and only time I've ever seen him "pray to the porcelin God" on the ship!

Don't play with fire and your health isn't worth taking the chance.

Just depends on your body. Maybe a little test before you go?
None of my family has had problems with the ships, so we're lucky.
And we were on the 12-17-03 Magic cruise, and the staff said it was the roughest trips in months, and I saw very few empty tables at dinner, or people saying they were sick. I did see a lot of waiters stuggling, and, well, let's just say it made the Jugglers show a big more interesting.
