Alcohol prices on islands

Last year DH and I brought back 9 bottles of booze and customs told us that they dont collect under $10. and stamped our form and off we went.

I think your Bombay Sapphire would be $22 for two bottles, if you purchase when it's on sale ($12 for the first bottle, $2 off that price for the second bottle, if I'm interpreting drclaws' posts correctly). Still, a great deal compared to local liquor store prices.

dcandmc: Thanks for correcting me. I believe you are right. $22 for 2 bottles sounds like a great deal.

Anyone know about wine prices? Should we just try to bring in more and see what happens?

That would be correct. However, it's not on all brands/bottles, only those on the "special" for that particular day. I don't recall seeing it listed in the Navigator, but that day's special was always presented on the small display table at the duty free shop.

I don't remember if they announced the specials ahead of time or not, it may have been posted in the duty free area....not sure how we knew each day, or if we just checked it out.

I have posted this before, but maybe someone here
will know.

Can you buy champagne at any of the ports? St. Maarten is 1/2 french, so I thought we might be able to get a good bottle there. What about on the ship?

thanks.

Oh my god. Godiva liquer. Must check liquor store! How big is the bottle? Yum!

Oh, I see, one liter. That and Kalhua. Double yum.

Okay, it seems like I can buy a bottle and have it onboard. Shouldn't I do that instead of going to the store before we get on the ship. Why would we stop somewhere when I can buy it onboard?

Does anyone know if they sell wine?

Thanks:wave2:

mhb....if you purchase the liquor onboard the ship at their shop YOU CANNOT consume it onboard. DCL will hold it for you until the end of the cruise.

If you bring your own onboard or purchase on the islands, then you can consume those bottles onboard.

If by "have it onboard" you mean open and drink it while on the cruise, then I don't think you can do this. A previous poster in this thread has said that any alcohol bought onboard in the duty free shop is held and only delivered to your stateroom on the last night of the cruise. You are not allowed to bring opened bottles of alcohol off the sip with you when you disembark at Port Canaveral. So, unless you wanted to have one heck of a party your last night onboard, you would be better off bringing onboard the alcohol you want to consume during the cruise, and saving your onbaord purchases for consumption after the cruise (or maybe leave them unopened for use on the next cruise?).

Thank you. The only problem I seem to have is that we are flying in on the day of our cruise and I don't know how to get a bottle onboard. We are taking the DCL transfer. Our 1st time. Not sure what to do. Plus the family would like DCL to take care of everthing. I did read that I can buy the small bottle, pack them in ziplock bags and bring them onboard. Not sure if I want to chance glass bottles in my luggage.

So it seems I might have to have one heck of a party after the cruise. Since we go in Nov. it might be a holiday party. Subject friends and family to all my great island pics. Give them something to drink and they enjoy.LOL

::yes::

So, What about wine prices? Anyone know?

Sounds like you would have to put it in one of your your carry-on bags and lug it with you all the way from home. You do not want to pack a bottle of booze in your checked luggage.

MMM...I love Godiva liquer for chocolate martinis!!

I did not notice either wine or champagne offered at the Duty Free shop (not a whole lot of room for display actually!) Both, of course, can be purchased at dinner by the bottle if you're not buying the wine "plan." Unfinished bottle will follow you to your next dinner.

For those flying in same day and DCL transferring....if you are on the Western, you can always purchase on Key West and bring back to the ship. No savings as in the Duty Free shop, but you'd have you own on board for the week.

A reminder concerning Tortuga Rum. If you want it, you will need to purchase it on board. DCL does not accept deliveries to the ship for security reasons and you can't buy and take the rum with you from Grand Cayman. Rum cakes, yes!! Rum no....

Rae Ann, I too am a fan of the Chocolate Martini! Yum! I have never had one as good as the one I had at the "White House" when my DH & I went to Disneyland! Karel : You & I are going to get along just fine on the 8/28 Western Cruise! My girlfriend & I are big Kahlua fans! White russians, Mudslides, anything with Kahlua! Oh, DCL has no idea what there in for on that 8/28 Cruise! LOL! Kathy :wave2:

- Light $10.95
- Orange $10.95

I have a question...We cant buy Tortuga on Grand Cayman?..

I was hoping to get some and some rum cake..

Thanks

Bobby

Rum cakes are no problem, other than trying to figure out how many, what flavors, and how to fit it in your luggage...

I preferred Tortuga's cakes to Blackbeards. Seemd to be moister and have better flavor.

The actual rum however, is a problem. You cannot purchase the rum onshore in Grand Cayman and take it with you. Normally, the purchase would be delivered to the ship before departure, but DCL prohibits outside deliveries. So, the only way to obtain Tortuga Rum while on the cruise is via the Duty Free shop onboard.

I suppose it's also available on Key West, but with all taxes and duties added....

Help! I am confused. You can buy alcohol at any of the Eastern Cruise islands and you can bring this alcohol on board DCL and drink it, if you wish, or take it home with you when you leave.
Any alcohol bought on the DCL can not be consumed on board but must be taken off the ship.
Is this correct?? If this correct, why buy it on the ship? It seems the prices are somewhat lower at the island stores and at least you can take it back onboard and have a drink on your verandah.

Why buy on ship? Cheaper prices on some items for the most part. I can't speak to the Eastern cruise since I've only been on the Western. Perhaps some of the items carried may not be as easily found on the islands.

I wonder how many bottles of the $950 cognac as sold per year?

Yes, anything bought on board will be held to the last night and delivered in the early evening. Since you are not permitted to take an opened bottle off at disembarkation, unless you have a heck of a party the last night of the cruise.....
