Hi all :) I'm trying to make this a pleasant trip for my dh who dislikes Orlando and theme parks. I know that there are a couple of specialty beers in the WWOHP, and apparently they've added fire whiskey. The article I saw on the fire whiskey mentioned mixing it with hard cider, but I haven't seen any sites that list the hard cider or any other Brit beers. Are there some European brands as well as the wizard beer/ales?

Dh has always been hooked on darks, and the two years we lived overseas just whetted his appetite for it. He'd be tickled to find something like this while we're at Universal.

(And I do know he'll be able to find Guinness elsewhere in the park, which will make him happy, too)

He'll be very happy at Universal I've seen:

Tennent's
London Pride
Boddingtons
The specialty HP beers
Old Speckled Hen (excellent - they sell it at the Kiosk you pass through in King's Cross)
Strong Bow (hard Cider)
Duff's Dry at Moe's (an excellent American Dry Stout)
Smithwicks at Finnegans (and Guinness, of course)

Ooh, excellent! I know he'll want water during the hottest parts of the day, but I'm thinking he'll really enjoy a dark beer while we people watch in the evenings. Thanks clsteve!

Just an aside the Hogs Head brew is very good. Like OP stated, you do have special beers and One is a dark one.

I'm a Strongbow fan myself and was thrilled that is available

Really? Ooh I fell in love with that last year in England.
Yep, and I was very pleased.......

It's served in the nitro can like Guinness and Boddingtons, so it's just about as good as you can get outside of the UK.....

Fantastic! Now I've got to figure out how to sell the idea of cancelling the Disney portion of our trip next week and just hang out in Diagon Alley for 9 days.

Definitely worth a try. If it was me, I'd start with faking an injury once I was in DA - give'em the old: "I'll catch up later..." routine. Of course, I always get the eye roll when I try that one. Tried it too many times, probably...;)

if you go to behindthethrills.com
you can read the article they have now about the fire whiskey at the darkside.

Do it first....that'll help your argument ;) Once we stepped into DA, we'd have gladly stayed 3 or 4 more days!! Just hard to imagine they could have made it SO much more amazing than Hogsmeade, which we already thought was incredible. I'm ready to go back.

We drank a lot of strongbow while at Harry Potter/Universal. Just sayin'

The specialty beers at WWOHP and Springfield are made exclusively by The Florida Beer Company for Universal. Try them all.

Anyone given The Triple (a.k.a. Deathly Hallows) a go? Best I can tell, it's Strongbow, Hog's Head, Guinness layered bottom to top.

For those that are interest there is some info here on the mixed drinks.

I;m sure someone has better info they can share

There is no soda in the wizzarding world and they can't make muggle drinks.
I've spent quite a few hours at the bar observing and talking with the bartenders and it can be interesting to watch.
The bartenders are also not allowed to offer the non soda alternative...you need to tell them what to put in it.
So if you order a long Island Ice tea they cant tell you what the alternative is, but if you tell them what to put in it they can make it.
Of course can someone explain why if they can't make "muggle drinks" but they can server muggle beers and such...but they can't get soda.

Also if you order a fire whiskey and a butterbeer - if they see you mix them they are supposed to take it away. "the Ministry of Magic does not allow alcohol to be combined with Butterbeer. "
Supposedly they taste good together.
