Forgive me if this has already been asked but since I was last on the Magic (2014) it appears that the alcohol policy has changed a little in terms of what can be bought onboard. I am sailing again on the Magic next weekend and as part of my fish extender gift there is an alcoholic component (small and completely sealed etc)... In 2014 we used a similar gift (trying not to talk too openly about it so as to not ruin it) and there were no problems bringing it on board as it was in a carry on bag (like all liquids, to prevent spillage). What's your view on this now?

I was planning on keeping them in their original box and then assembling the gifts onboard (just easier to transport that way) but would it be better to assemble all of the gifts ahead of the cruise so that the DCL staff can clearly see they are fish extender gifts and not just that I like a lot of small amounts of alcohol?

Or am I better off scrapping my fish extender gift 12 days before my cruise and starting again? We've cruised with them several times and used a similar gift and have never had any problem but in an email from DCL yesterday they reiterated that no spirits were allowed to be bought onboard and I don't want to get to port and end up with fish extender gifts I can't use and whilst it will pain me to have to start again this close to the cruise, I would rather do that if the general conscensus is that DCL will stop us from giving out our gifts.

Thoughts please?

Is it possible to just remove the alcohol component and use the rest of your gift?

Some people have reported getting small airline size bottles through, but others have had theirs confiscated.

New alcohol policy is absolutely no hard alcohol or spirits can be carried on. Only beer or wine in certain quantities. I personally wouldn't take the chance (especially if it is something you will drink at home so can use) but it seems to be hit or miss on if security catches it in carry on or not. If you get caught they give you a tag to get it back at the end of the cruise.

I wouldn't risk it unless you'd be happy to give the remainder of the gift without the alcohol. It doesn't matter to DCL that these are intended to be gifts. The policy is no hard liquor is allowed to be brought onboard now. Have other people tried and gotten away with it? Yes. Have others tried and had their liquor confiscated? Yes.

DCL doesn't care that it is fish extender gift. Alcohol is alcohol-there is nothing in the policy making a exception for this.

Scrapped it is. And I don't even drink myself so can't enjoy it, haha Oh well, that'll teach me to read the new policies in future.

Thanks for the replies.

Can you us ewhat you have purchased and make something for your local EMS/Fire Fighters as an appreciation gift?

Can you replace the alcohol with something else that's acceptable? Conversely, is it possible to bring the containers and buy alcohol on board to use (not sure if that would work for you)?

This is why, when the alcohol policy was announced, I started a thread expressing my sympathy for FE folks who had worked very hard to collect mini bottles...the short time between announcement and implementation meant many FE folks were stuck with lots of gifts they couldn't bring on board
So sorry
